Type Public/Municipal
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round. Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees. The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

Stay Away!

I used to play this course all the time since it was close by and easy to get on. Ever since the City of Phoenix outsourced management of the course to another company this course has gone down hill. The staff is lazy, unfriendly and really don't care about customer service. They close the course 2.5 hours before sunset. Would love to get in a late 9 holes or some practice after work but not here. They have no snack bar, no cart service.

No snack shop! There is a cooler in the club house with beverages but no place to sit down and have a bite to eat and drink after playing golf - not good! For the above reason, I would not suggest playing golf at Cave Creek, even though the course was fine and I enjoyed playing golf there. Get the snack shop completed!

No Aeration alert

NO Aeration alert - course conditions were absolutely horrible. GolfNow FAILED to display any WARNINGS. On the fairway, I had to pickup the ball from an aeration hole every time. The greens were unplayable. Not to mention over 40% of greens and fairways should have marked ground under repair. I get it! it’s June in Phx. HOT! No rain! But somebody needs to take responsibility for communicating the course conditions the consumer. Golf course & Golfnow. Removed from my favorite list. DISAPPOINTED!

Other than there was no beverage service cart on the course, it was a great course to play for the price.

Good pace of play

This course still has some water issues. Standing water in some areas and grass drying up in others. It is a good layout, challenging but very playable.

First Time Playing

3 hour round

Course has a nice layout with lots of hills and doglegs. The corse needs some TLC though. Many bare and dry areas. The greens were pretty receptive, but extremely slow. Bunkers were inconsistent, they were dirt, some dry and hard others wet and muddy.

Poor Managment

A shotgun tournament started on hole 7 an hour and a half after the first tee time. The pace of play drastically reduced upon reaching this group. All the course had to do was to have the shotgun start at the same time as the first tee time and this would have improved the pace of play. A little thought would have improved everyone's play and reduced the frustration level.

This isn’t country club folks it’s just an old muni, BUT, it’s got about 10 of the nicest holes anywhere for not much money. If u need a laid back fun round of golf that will test your entire skill set, then go, u won’t be disappointed
