Cave Creek Golf Course
About
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.
Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.
The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

This course is decent.
The course is in decent conditions with some greens having some scars from poor treatment along with some tee boxes that are left a little long. Big issue was with taking flagsticks out before sundown, but the pace of play and people were nice. A decent course all-in-all.
Not good not horrible
Course condition was less than ideal. Fairways were green but outside of that it was a dog track. Greens were actually decent. Paid for a hot deal so I wasn’t too upset but I would never consider paying more than $20 to play here.
Thankfully only $50 to play
Layout is pretty good and the fairways and greens were in pretty good shape, however the tee boxes need to be leveled - how hard is that to do really? And it makes such a difference. I would have liked the course except for the wasteland that is in the center of the course and all the garbage that is visible including half submerged shopping carts. Really takes away from any charm the views offer!
Solid muni with grass range and plenty of carts; starter didn’t force me to share as a solo. Played a day after it rained so it was rather muddy in a few spots, but overall still playable.
Greens are coming in
The greens are coming in after the reseed, the course is in good shape. I play the red tees, they could use better signage leading to the red tees on the 18th
SLOW Pace of Play
Course was in fair playing condition. Tee boxes need some TLC. Fairways were OK, though a little sparse in grass density in places. Sand traps needed more depth of sand and deep racking. Greens were in good shape and fair speed, though many ball marks needed to be repaired. Rough was thick in places and absent grass altogether further from fairway. Pace of play was terrible at 5 hours, with delays at nearly every shot. Ranger was present, but saw no attempt by him to improve the situation. Value of round would have been good had proper pace been maintained. Slowest round I’ve experienced in a long time.
No Marshall’s = too long to play
Course layout was nice…lots of room. A few doglegs but most straight away. Tee blocks were so so. Greens are large but flag placement doesn’t seem to vary as you could see 5 or 6 old holes within 6 feet of the hole.Didn’t see a Marshall the whole day so almost 5 hours to play. Some par 3’s had 2 groups waiting to tee when we got there. I wouldn’t recommend or return unless I heard they fixed the situation
Pay attention to hole 6
Scale of 1-5
Greens - 4
Fairway's - 4
Pace of play - 2 no real marshaling pace was 4.5 hrs+
Hole 6 has one sign to its location, kind of wonky for a first time player
Cart GPS was not turned on, there is a switch near the to in front of the cart
Great course
This is a great public course, the only thing missing is cart paths.
