Tis the season to Aerify
When it's this time of year in Phoenix you know there will be a lot of maintenance preparing for peak.
So I always call to ensure they didn't just punch and sand.
That's what I did and the shop slug told me the greens are perfect!
Just what you want to hear right?
So as I'm walking into the clubhouse I see a worker on 9 driving a cart with sand and dragging the green!
I ask the kid behind the counter what's going on?
He says they sand once a week!
Much to my chagrin the greens where fast and true but the sand took a little to get used to looking at.
All in all I'll go back
Great Course, A Bit Parched
I have generally found this a decent course to play and provided a good level of challenge for intermediate to advanced players. On this occasion, with temps hovering around 110, the fairways were a bit parched on a fair number of holes. The course did not get the usual amount of rain in the spring so it seems the fairways got behind a bit when the heat hit. I would keep this course in the rotation because I know the course makes an effort to keep things in great shape. As an example, the greens on every hole were immaculate. Only one hole (8) had undergone recent repair.
Got some work to do!
I played the morning after a monsoon hit this area of Phoenix. However, the debris was not as distracting as the fairways were. They didn’t transition from winter grass to summer grass well and most fairways are bare, dirt or full of weeds.
The greens and bunkers were very nice. I think the course has a black eye now but will recover and be a nice facility.
the greens are excellent and roll well . fairways are mostly dirt .
Greens are good everything else was in terrible shape
Weather turned out to be nice. Will be back next Sunday.
Course was in horrible shape. Did not expect this from the course and advertisements. Way over priced now and during high season.
Disappointed very poor condition
i used to play this course a lot when it was a city course, 3 years ago. The changes to the course are great. The problem stems from horrendous fairways.
The grass they put in has died, so they have mud everywhere and 1" diameter aeration holes for your ball to sit in, just terrible. The pro shop stated that there were a few bad spots on the fairways! My friend came out from Missouri for a golf trip, we played 6 rounds around the valley and he loved 5 of these rounds. I will never play this course again. One last point, the restaurant staff was by far the best part of this round!
This course in terrible condition, do no play.
The farways are pig swamp. The greens are slow and poorly maintained, and there's dead tree's cut up all over the place that look like they have been there for weeks. 100 yards and approch shots dig, and it sucks. Stay away.
