Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Challenging course, good conditions
The golf course was in great shape for the summer months, awesome fairways and nice rolling greens. I feel like a higher handicapper may struggle out here, strategic bunkering littered throughout the course including middle of the fairways on some holes. We paid about 38$ after taxes to play, not really a deal, but the conditions were pretty nice. I’ll be back. Snack bar is also open at the turn or before the round.
Greener than last year
Greens are recovering very well. Putts rolled well.
Zipped around pretty good once I got past the twosome that had me wait every shot starting on 2!
Finished 4 holes ahead of them after getting through on 10.
There is a lot more green grass this year that last so the superintendent is on the right track.
Go play GCU if you haven't already it's great test of golf.
Really nice course
I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The fairways and greens were in very good shape and the layout is fair but challenging. I can’t wait to play it again.
Whuuuuuuuttttt?? Hot deal??? Ohhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh
The last time I played this course it was called Maryvale... Now that it's GCU, wow! What a time, there's a couple hole in that meet in the middle and I almost got confused what green I was supposed to hit onto, but it worked out well! It was a great time and my wife even enjoyed caddying me around during my play! I hope to play this course a few more times!
Another good day at GCU!
Had a great day golfing at GCU...got a chance to go out early and enjoyed a 3 1/2 hour round. Fairways and greens were in good shape...held well and putted above average, as the greens had been plugged sometime in the last 2-4 weeks. Friendly people at golf shop and the concession area. Will be back!
This course was quite busy for a Saturday but we did not interact with groups ahead or behind up close. The greens were punched somewhat recently. They did not show and sand but did not putt as true as past rounds. Several intersections are always tight based on routing. Most notably 18 tee 17 green 16 tee and 15 green are all within 75 yards of one another. It was in good shape but not bad/great which was all that can be asked for $50.
Nice in great condition course
The fairways were in great condition. The greens were just aerated so a little bumpy the back nine was a little better.
Great pace no one out there.
It’s a great layout and the pace of play was right at 4 hours.
Lack of Info
Once again I find myself disappointed because I was not made aware of course conditions at the time I set the appointment. The course had shaved fairways. If I would have known this I would not have set tee time. Thanks for ruining one of the few things I can enjoy during this time of crisis,
Disappointing course condition
Thought the higher price of $24 might have meant good course conditions. Ultimately, $10 would have been too much for today's round. Giant bunkers as hard as concrete. Fairways obviously thatched or aerated... but unsuccessfully. Sand and seed spread all over course. So thick in some places like being on the beach. Greens were in good shape but huge.
I've played several valley courses since the heat started and they've managed to keep conditions fair to good. GCU did not.
first time at this course. the greens were very good and the putts rolled pretty true. The fairways are either very thin with grass or burnt and sanded in many places. Will play again when the summer heat has passed. No one to clean clubs and no one to take your bag and out on a cart. Most all other courses I have played during the virus restrictions have these services.
They have prepared there staff well for Covid . But not so much for guest. You need to put hand sanitizer out at contact location for guest. It’s hot in arizona and having no water available to players Is not OK. Your beverage carts should be handing out water every nine hole of If needed. You can buy 36 bottles for as little as $3.50 per. What a great idea so tour guest don’t get dehydrated.....
Look at all that sand
Long drive from Gold Canyon but finally made the plunge. Caught it on a windy day which made us think about shot placement and not having played it before, we were often wrong in our assumptions. We also had grass changeover conditions with thin fairways and tees. The greens were in good shape and rolled reliably. The sand in the traps was in pretty reasonable condition and enough of it. There are more well placed bunkers at GCU than anything else I have played in years, this well test your sand wedge.
Very nice course at a fair price
Pace of play was very good, fairways in good shape, greens always true and quick.
Great course fairways still need improvement
The course continues to improve as the fairways are thin
Always a pleasure...
Playing this course. Greens, fairways, tees and traps all in very playable condition. You may want to forego playing here on a Mondays, there were a lot of workers maintaining the course and unless your ball is on top of them, they pretty much ignore you ( especially those cutting the fairways). Tended to give me pause before hitting which led to a longer round. But that’s just me...!!!
