Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.

The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.

The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

read some reviews after playing and found a review of a 2/9/18 round nearly identical to my observations. all I'd add is the greens rolled well, but incredibly large- some were acres; and be prepared to duck. I had two balls from different holes land uncomfortably close while playing one shot.

Located in the heart of Phoenix, it is impressive that a full 18 hole golf course was able to be put onto such a small piece of land…and this is part of the problem. This is a traditional style course. It is flat with no elevation changes. The holes are quite close together. You see people all over the place. It felt a bit claustrophobic. Some of the tees are quite close to the greens so you always need to be aware that you could be in the line of fire. I was actually quite surprised that I didn’t hear ‘FORE’ more often. The holes do not show a whole lot of variety in their design. Much of the course appeared damp. There was mud in a number of places. Yet other areas appeared burnt. The bunkers were well maintained. Each green appears to be a clone of each other, being guarded by a green on the left and on the right. The greens do have some undulation, but a number of them had issues. Number 8 green is especially bad. Driving range available where driver can be used. However, I noted that they also have mats so I’m guessing that these are sometimes used. Nice things about this course included the friendly staff, drinking water on the course and beverage cart. Still, despite the $55 green fees in February, I do not like this course and will not be back.

This course is a nice layout, but in need of some TLC. Some of the greens were pretty baron and in rough shape. Too many cart path only holes on holes that didn't need to be, this contributed to some of the slow play. They also needed a Marshall/ ranger to keep the play flowing.

Have played here several times and the pace of play is frequently a bit slow. This time out the front nine was OK albeit a bit slow. The first 6 holes on the back nine took 2 hours and 15 minutes. Don't know how long the last 3 holes took because I left. I have never seen a marshal on the course in any of the times that I have plate so I assume that the course does not use marshals.

Course conditions have deteriorated quite a bit over the last couple of years as well. Several holes were cart path only which certainly affects pace of play. Many of the greens have developed dead patches and are simply not what they used to be.

This was the first time playing this course for the four of us. We played the blacks by consensus. The fairways were in pretty good condition I thought. The greens seemed a bit bumpy to me and I think nearly all of them are raised greens. We found that some jerk designer likes to put sand traps at the common distances off the tee. There is water on a few holes, but mostly it is just sand traps to avoid. The fairways are lined with mature trees. Pace was about 4 1/2 hours. Not bad, not great. 4 hours is about right for this course. Lots of traffic noise on a few holes. The range was mats only. Not a fan of using the mats. The staff was friendly. Overall it was a nice course and can play longer than you'd think. (From Purple tees -7200 yds)
