Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.

The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.

The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

This is a great course -- I was very disappointed that there was no Alert or Advisory on golf now to let us know that the course was being aerated and that many of the fairways mimicked a farmers field. Terrible playing conditions on those fairways! We should have been warned ahead of time. They went a little crazy with the amount, and placement of sand bunkers; however the sand in those bunkers was immaculate! Other that that, this was a great course which I plan to play again once the course is back to normal.

The greens were in excellent shape. I wish that I could say the same for the fairways. A few of them were in rough shape. The golf course personnel were very friendly. Unfortunately, I have to give a slightly above average overall rating due to fairway conditions. Right now, I'd say 3.5 stars if I could leave that rating. I'm sure that this will improve with time, and I enjoyed my round.

I've played this course many years, never seen it in such bad condition, actually never seen any course this bad still open. Should be shut down.. Only payed 9 holes took 3 hrs, I saw no reason to play a course in such bad shape. The management tried to explain that they were working very hard to fix things, fired supt, hired anew, hoping Bermuda grass will come etc., the topper... the cost to play reflects the course condition, saying it;s cheap so don;t expect much. Course should be closed for repairs, waist of 31/2 hrs including the drive time.

I've played this course 4 times a year since it was renovated and loved the experience every time, but not this last time. The course conditions are beyond pathetic. GCU should shut it down to spare them the embarrassment and the ire of the golfing public. I echo other reviewers who found the fairways unplayable and littered with weeds and tree debris; the grass is dead in patches on almost every green, the 16th green had standing water on it, the 11th tee box was flooded, every bunker I hit into was waterlogged and 2 had standing water in them. After our round a staffer told us a new superintendent is taking over and they will be closing the course for a week. I hope they get it turned around soon because right now it is the laughingstock of the valley. A real shame.

This course was in good condition but could stand to have more watering. There were numerous areas with no grass on the fairways but the greens were in good condition. The staff is friendly and helpful. I got on at my appointed time. There was a group of 3 in front of us so e we had a single behind us so we had him join up with us. The group ahead played very slowly but not to the point of being annoying. At the end of the day I left feeling that I really enjoyed my July 4th round of golf. I will plan to play this course again in the future.

Course has lost 80% of the fairways.. what is left is dirt or thin grass. Shop employees should be embarrassed to take money from people with the present conditions. Nobody should spend money on this course the rest of the summer. The same problem will happen again next year if they don't get a base of grass in before they overseed. Once the winter rye burns off there is nothing underneath for the golfers to play on.

I played this course a lot when it was a Phoenix Muni and to its credit I believe GCU did an admirable job of retaining its soul and spirit. Shortened some holes but added tons of traps especially in the fairways. Seemed to be lots more undulation to the greens which for the most part were in good condition except for a few. Did I mention the sand traps, bring your AA sand game but know that they are in great condition with sand evenly distributed through out. A good majority of those traps have deep faces even in the fairways. The fairways pretty much from hole to hole were in awful shape, but to be fair so-are most of the fairways on other courses I’ve played the last 2-3 months in the Valley. Overall I had a very good experience playing this renovated course at a discounted price thru Golf Now.....

This is one of my go to courses. It makes the player hit fairways for the best opportunity to hit greens. The landing areas are the higher portions in the fairway, so playing the proper tee to your ability is key. A fun course and very player friendly.

The good: tee boxes and greens are in decent shape.

The bad: The maintenance crew has lost the fairways. There is very little bermuda grass left. Just turf turning into dirt.

I'm sorry to say the course is in dreadful condition. Then, after teeing off at 6:20 we were treated to a five hour round. Spend your money elsewhere.

It’s a shame but they have lost this course except for the greens which are OK. I won’t play here again till winter cause I don’t see them getting it back. Had to try and find a grass spot to place ball on most fairways.

This was our first and last time to GCU golf course. I saw that it was being overseeded, but that usually means the putting greens. This course was in horrible shape. The fairways were barren and there were no markers. I commented midway through that I felt like I was on a public municipal course. Nice try to lure new people to your course, but I will not be recommending or going back.

Cart path only. Not a good thing. Course saturated with minimal rain but probably sprinklers adding to the water. Fairways were horrible with more brown and dirt than grass and greens not much better. Quit after 14 as it had already been right at 4+ hours. Not a good value right now FOR SURE. Won't see me there any time real soon.

Course conditions in general were very poor. Maybe 4 out of 18 greens were fully grassed in - others had major areas of exposed dirt. A couple fairways were decent, but most were extremely dry and basically dead. Might want to let this course rest for a couple of years before trying it again.
