Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Our yearly golf trip to phoenix, first time we decided to give the GCU course a try. We played 5 courses in 6 days and it was by far the best value. Some of the best greens we played on all week. Overall a great atmosphere out there. Definitely will be added to the rotation next year!
Good condition for summer play
FYI: GCU will not work with Garmin gps, wish they would get with Garmin to resolve issues.
To those who can't muster the courtesy to rank bunkers after their shot, maybe you should stick to Goofy Golf until you can develop some consideration ?
And what's with the complaints about t-boxes?
Isn't that the only place on the course where you can determine where to put your ball ?
Course being worked on
Caught the course under considerable work on fairways. .
Also Garmin yardage is way off. They need to update it. No fun playing with inaccurate yardages
Disappointed
I've played this course several times in the past. The conditions of the course were the worst I have seen. The greens were slow and splotchy. The tee baxes were OK but could have used some care. The fairways were hit and miss as far as grass being available to hit off. And a majority of the approaches to the greens were dirt. The club house as first rate as was the service and the quality of the food.
Sub par course
It is only June and the course was looking more like August. Lots of bare spots on the fairways and even more spots where the grass was sparse. Greens were bumpy and a couple of my putts didn't go in because there seemed to be a rim around the hole. Club house was beautiful and staff were all extra friendly
sanded bumby greens
fairways were punched ,most lies were little rough probably bad time of year to golf there.
Fun Course
I played this course yesterday and can’t beat the price. The pro shop informed me they had recently punched greens and fairways and I was a bit hesitant but it’s summer time and most courses are in transition so I booked it anyways. Greens and fairways are recovering nicely and they weren’t bad at all. I will definitely be back soon. Lopes Up!
GCU golf course
I always enjoy coming out to the GCU golf course the course design is really well done. Can’t say enough about the staff from outside service and the restaurant always friendly. Even with the punched greens I still enjoyed my round.
Course Conditions
Love this course, not in the best shape right now but it’s summer time and transitioning into the new grass. greens are a little slow but getting back into there normal shape it will be soon that the course will be back into immaculate shape. the staff is always great and friendly. i will always come back to play this course.
Staff for the Loss
No warning when we teed off at 6:18 that the course was basically a mud bath. Sprinklers were running the entire time. On two different holes we actually had to tee off into the sprinklers, just left our balls and came back and got them later. Two holes not played. I’m not one to complain…..ever. Went inside after the round with legs covered in mud and new golf shoes destroyed to tell them about the conditions. Guy looked at me from the couch chair as he was watching something and slowly got up and walked over after 30 seconds, other guy was on a speakerphone call on the other phone why he needed us all to hear, no clue. Short haired guy with glasses said,”we’re trying to hammer the course with water, no clue why no one told you.” Zero “sorry” zero “let’s make this right I can see you’re soaked in mud” a sorry goes a long way, his words were I’ll tell them to back off the water. I stood there with a shocked look on my face after ten seconds in disbelief in this kids metal clackers he says “anything else?”. We usually play there a couple times a month. No more. Too many options for some punk kid to be a jerk.
Course conditions
great course as always, course is transitioning into the new grass right now because it’s summertime but over all not bad, I always have a great time playing this course. I highly praise the staff at this course they’ve always been so friendly and also the restaurant staff. I will always come play here at this championship golf course.
I've been playing this course for over 30 years. It's come a long way from being just another municipal track . that being said, it is not a championship course. You have to keep up on the "house cleaning'. The sand bunkers could use some sand. Overall, we had a great time, and that's what it's all about.
