Championship at Moon Valley Country Club
About
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course features excellent conditions and a spot in Arizona's long golf tradition on a par-72 18-hole course first designed by Dick Wilson and redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This golf course challenges all levels, playing 5,285-7,216 yards.
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course begins on a par-4 371-yarder, requiring a drive left to see the green: bunkers guard front and left. The fourth is a par-5 511-yarder. Shoot a birdie. Keep the tee shot away from the right fairway bunker. Close on the 411-yard, par-4 18th, which requires an accurate drive to miss bunkers right and trees and water left. You'll face the course's most intimidating shot: a two-tiered green, featuring a left side four feet higher than the right, 15 yards deep. It's guarded front back by bunkers. The hole location on the right is difficult.
Bunkers block a green sloping front to back, making it tough to stop the ball on the surface.

Not worth the miney
The greens were over sanded, the bunkers were dirt and the rough was full of weeds and dirt. Very disappointed in the course.
Great time and course condition
Moon Valley is a gem of a golf course. The staff in the pro shop could not be nicer. The practice range had as many balls as you wanted an this was included in the greens fee. The real story is the beautiful and FAST greens that awaited you at the end of each hole. With a posted 10.8 notice in the pro shop they lived up to the speed and often exceeded it. Also the speed was true so accuracy was at a premium.
The course was full and the round took 5 hours but it was worth every minute of it. We had multiple interactions with the cart person and she was ALWAYS polite and nice. She even stayed late that day because so many people were still on the course. I would recommend that everyone try this course and consider a membership at Moon Valley.
A fun track in excellent condition
Visiting Moon Valley will likely become an annual event for our foursome until they stop allowing the public. Course conditions were excellent and the greens were quick and true. Unfortunately we had no trouble finding the strategically placed bunkers ! Moon Valley is a reasonable challenge without being punishing. Try it - you'll like it.
Course is well laid out
Course is fun to play. Water on a number of holes. Played early and the course was very wet - too wet with some very thin fairways.
A very walkable course
This is a nice track that is walkable. An X LPGA course. In great shape except they have so non native grass on the greens. They have treated the greens, so it should get better. Very friendly staff and they let me know about conditions up front.
Tom
good course bad pro shop help
Course in good condition, over seeding went well. Greens were not over seeded, still putted very well. Greens seemed dead with dye sprayed on. Guy in pro shop turned up nose when he realized I was Golf Now hot deal. Made us wait till tee time even though no one was there. Courses may not like Golf Now for various reasons, but don't take it out on customer. I won't be back.
MOON VALLEY
good country club course. wide fairways. bunkers around greens, raised greens. rough was not cut, mini-tour tournament next day.
Great value for the price
Staff was very accommodating and the course was in great condition. It was a little cool but the club couldn't be responsible for that. The price was good for the high season in Phoenix. The only thing lacking was a cart girl for refreshments out on the course, but it was a Monday, and I don't know if they have one on busier times. This was my first time playing this course and I plan on playing it quite a bit more.
Great pro shop staff
Nice course, fantastic greens. Pro shop staff very informative. Nice practice facility. Great happy hour menu.
Thank you for the compliments. I will pass along to F&B as well. We hope to see you back here soon.
A very pleasant day.
My wife and I played with another couple who are friends and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Moon Valley. The only negative on the day was most of the sand trips require sand! Not fun playing out of desert sand and gravel from the bunker.
After our round we stayed for a drink and some food and had a very positive experience with our waiter Sean as well as the quality and pricing of our purchases.
Improvments
The course shows signs of care and of no care. If you do not look beyond the fairways, the course could be considered quite nice. Contour the edges and lay down decorative gravel where you do not play. As is, it is not a great course. My friends said that it is not beyond a $60 dollar course. It could be great if the whole course showed much care.
Fast Greens
Course was in much better shape than the last time I played there. Good overseed this year. Greens had been recently rolled, so firm and fast.
Great Greens
The Pro Shop staff were very welcoming to non-Members. The practice facility is quite nice. 'The course was in very good overall condition, and the greens were excellent...firm, fast and true. The only minor complaint was that the bunkers had very little sand on top of the firm base...use a low-bounce sand wedge if you play here.
Gem in the Desert
This was my first time playing this old school private Country Club. They allow limited outside play and since this course was on my golf bucket list I jumped at the opportunity. Great practice facilities with a couple of putting greens by number 1 & 10. The course layout has scenic views with mature trees lining the fairways and water on several holes. They were still in over-seed (cart paths only) so the ruff was up and the fairways were a little shaggy, slowing our play, yet we still finished in under 4 hours. The greens looked dry and less green than the surrounding grass but they were quick and challenging. Make sure to bring a range finder/GPS as the course was poorly marked with practically no yardage markers marked found on the fairways or cart paths. Bunkers were firm and mostly dirt. Pro Shop staff was friendly and treated non-members courteously and professionally. The Club House was surprisingly nice inside with a decent bar. The restaurant provided an average lunch menu, but found the food to be nothing special. I will definitely play this course again if the opportunity present's itself again.
course in terrible conditions
The greens were too dry, and fairways poorly kept. We paid $65 to play 18 holes at 102 F. We expected the course to be in goodplayable condition. In the pre re-seeding period, the course should be honest to charge fair value for the conditions. We felt ripped off.
Great course
This is a must play course. Great condition with a great staff. I will definitely be playing this course again.
Great country club
Course is in great shape from tees to greens. One of the best conditioned courses I have played all summer in the greater Phoenix area. Layout is challenging with several water holes and doglegs. Only criticism is the same for all but one course in the greater Phoenix market; the sand traps are terrible, nicely positioned and placed but gravel at best in them. Highly recommend course and would play again in a heartbeat.
One time onlyl
Rained the morning of the round and wind blew. Trying the course for the first time. No player services to meet me as I arrived, but did find the golf shop. Course conditions were average...picking up downed branches, etc. was not a priority today. Rough was long and they had mowed some of it but it bailed badly leaving large clumps of grass. Also, no yardage makers on course, pretty much needed a GPS device. At rounds end, no none around to meet us, so no tip to the player service guys. Kinda disappointing for my first time at Moon Valley.
A must in the Phoenix area to play
My first time playing Moon Valley. The course has a wonderful history with the LPGA and the clubhouse has many pictures showing past champions. Moon Valley is where Annika Sorenstam shot 59. I have no idea how she shot 59 on the course, it's not that easy. It was an enjoyable round on a course that was in excellent condition.
Very Enjoyable Morning
The well maintained course has wide fairways and large greens. It doesn't beat you up like some area courses.
My theory is if they need the business from Golfnow they need to treat the people who get to them thru Golfnow as they do any other customer. I have had a few places act that way, but they quickly get an earful from me and we move on. LOL And like you, I usually never return, well unless the deal is irresistible.
Thank you for the comments. This is not how we treat guests. We would love another chance to earn your business. Please email me so we can make it right.
Thanks,
