Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course features excellent conditions and a spot in Arizona's long golf tradition on a par-72 18-hole course first designed by Dick Wilson and redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This golf course challenges all levels, playing 5,285-7,216 yards.

Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course begins on a par-4 371-yarder, requiring a drive left to see the green: bunkers guard front and left. The fourth is a par-5 511-yarder. Shoot a birdie. Keep the tee shot away from the right fairway bunker. Close on the 411-yard, par-4 18th, which requires an accurate drive to miss bunkers right and trees and water left. You'll face the course's most intimidating shot: a two-tiered green, featuring a left side four feet higher than the right, 15 yards deep. It's guarded front back by bunkers. The hole location on the right is difficult.

Bunkers block a green sloping front to back, making it tough to stop the ball on the surface.

Good Layout

I've always enjoyed the layout at Moon Valley. Still a challenge that tests all the clubs in the bag. Tees and fairways in very good shape. Greens have lots of grass on them but were very slow.Only complaint I have although I understand considering the current weather conditions.

No single players,, are you kidding?

I found a good deal on golfnow and set a tee time. I arrived early and asked the cart guy if I could go off as a single. He said there was no one on the course and it was fine with him but I would have to check with the desk. Jim (the desk guy) said no singles and I would have to wait for the other three players. He said even members couldn't play as singles (this is total BS) I waited for the other three and we went off as a foursome. After one hole we decided that one twosome was younger, faster, and better so we split off as 2 twosomes. At the turn Jim came out and chastised us for breaking off from the foursome. No reason given. The course was nice, the staff was great (with one exception), but I won't be back as long a Jim the Jerk is on duty

A Complete Waste

I know Moon Valley is struggling and it was very easy to see why. They are supposed to be a semi private club looking to go full private so it would make sense in my mind to treat guests well as they could be seen as potential new members which was extremely far from what I experienced. Checked in for my 1:18 tee time at 12:45. Waited about ten minutes for somebody to pop up from the office of the pro shop. Was told the range is only for member use and to "just hangout by the putting green till my tee time." While awaiting my tee time on the putting green, a staff member coming off of the golf course casually asks if I wanted a cart. On golf now it said my fee included a cart and range balls so without thinking told him yes. After teeing off and driving down the first fairway realized i was given a cart full of trash, namely in the front and the cooler. As for the course, the layout was good, reminded me of some Southern California (la area) country club layouts. The conditions on the other hand were poor, bare spots on fairways specifically. Overall did not have a good experience and have vowed to never return.

This cou rse layout is fun to play

The course condition this time of year was fair to average. The cart girl passed by us on hole #4 and did not bother to wave or stop...and we never saw her again albeit that she did advise us that she would be leaving at 4pm. I played from the tips and had a great round and final score. The greens were in great condition and played true, enabling me to putt very well all day. The club members fivesome ahead of us kept pace and we never had to wait on any of the 18 holes. The irriation timers needs to be reset for the longer summer hours. The came on as we approach hole 17 and there was still adequate lighting on the course. I'll definitely play this coursee again, but not sure how well it may be maintained throughout the summer. There are too many dirt patches that the maintenance crew has not even bothered to re-seed or attend too from the appearance throughout every hole played.

In the Valley

I was able to take advantage of the great practice facilities that are offered at Moon Valley prior to getting out on the course. I played from the blue tees so the course was not exceptionally long. The greens and the fairways were in very good shape, putts ran true and the fairways were preferred to play from. If you were unfortunate enough to miss the fairway off the tee you were to say the least not in a favorable position. Off the fairway I found out were more like waste areas. I did manage to play out of a few traps as well. They are plenty-full through out the course but might be needing a little more sand in them at least the ones I played out of were needing a bit more sand.
I did notice with out GPS on the carts the yardage markers on the cart paths did not really help you out. Some sort of indication on the edge of fairways would have been a help. There were also yardages on sprinkler heads but difficult to find at times.
It was a good experience, the fellows I was paired with were all locals and were good to play with and the additional knowledge from them came in handy on a number of occasions.

A++++ greens

Played Moon Valley on a Tuesday and the course played fast. The condition are far below what they use to be,but one thing you can count on are the best kept greens I've ever played on,and lightning fast.Overall conditions from tee to green were good but get off the fairway and it's poor to very bad. Bunkers need a lot of work and there's lots of them.No GPS in carts but fairways are well marked on sprinkler heads, they do have nice newer carts,if your a single digit handicap the black tees will give you all you want.......imo if giving a chance to play there ,do it and enjoy, but bring your A flat stick game.

Unfriendly staff

The staff made us feel unwelcome since we paid fee to golf Now. They were not helpful when checking in and commented that golf now was not their favorite. They did not give us any direction about the course, did not give us the combination to the Restroom etc. Cart people were very good.

Moon valley midweek

Played the course mid week so there were few other golfers, pace of play was excellent.

Fairways, bunkers and greens all in goood shape, off the fairway grass was scarce.

Booked on golf now as a Hot Deal so course was an excellent value for this time of year.

sporty but tired

Decent layout and test. A few too many doglegs for my liking. Tees and greens in nice shape. Needs water inany spots resulting in bare lies. Bunkers need more sand. Overall a C+ yet not worth $100.
