Villa de Paz Golf Course was voted the top affordable 18-hole course in the Valley of the Sun, according to the Arizona Republic. The parkland course challenges top golfers, though it's not so difficult that beginners will wish they'd golfed elsewhere. After a 2002 remodel, the par-71 course measures 6,700 yards and offers water on 10 holes. If Phoenix in summertime intimidates, fear not: at Villa de Paz Golf Course, shade abounds, due to mature trees lining several fairways. Shoot for birdies or eagles, do so, but wisely. Reward has risk. Shooting sharply is especially required on holes like the fourth, a par-4 450-yarder with a severe right dogleg. Hitters dig the seventh, eighth and 15th, par 4s that can be nailed from the tee. The 18th mixes distance and skill. The par-4 470-yarder doglegs right and requires a carry over a lake to reach the three-tiered green. Fancy a warm-up before the Villa de Paz Golf Course? Use the handy practice area, with its range, two-tiered hitting zones and highlighted target areas at different yardages so you can check your length -- and the wind.

Bermuda Grass...Try Bermuda Dirt
I understand in golf sometimes you get what you pay for. This course on the other hand is not one of those courses. We chose this course so we could play with a friend who is just starting golf. He now believes golf is played literally in the desert. If you find grass it may be on one of their incredible uneven lied tee boxes, but choose your spot wisely because those are mostly sand as well. Course is literally covered in trash on every single hole, the on course bathrooms are "clean", When I clean a bathroom I know the correct way is to just dump a bucket of bleach all over everything and let it soak, TADAH! 3-4 of 18 greens DIDN"T have bird feces covering 80% of the green. Lastly the review of the 18th hole..."one that you soon won't forget" is HILARIOUS! When you drive up to the 18th tee box make sure to take it ALL IN! BEAUTIFUL! Just breathtaking haha. All in all I will never play this course again. Save your money and go hit golf balls at a driving range! I'm not sure about their driving range, didn't look to see if it too was complete dirt or if they have grass to hit off. They do however have "GOLF BOARDS" for rent if you want to experience that. Here it would be an off road experience riding a motorized Golf Surf Board. I would recommend them spending money on ATV's instead.. This course is not worth the money to waste in gas driving here, and if you live close, save your energy because it's worth walking here. Positive Note: Staff was friendly.
You get what you pay for
VDP is far from a Scottsdale course in more than one way. I avoid this course during the summer as the course conditions are such that there is more dirt than grass but during the rest of the year it's somewhat playable as long as you are able to keep it in the fairway. Also never expect to play this course quickly in any way. 5-10 minute waits in between shots and on tee boxes are very common. Likewise traditional golf etiquette is not seen on this course. Slower groups typically won't ask if you want to play thru, people don't appear to fix divots throughout the fairways or the greens and the 90 degree rule most clubs observe is rarely seen here. I even regularly see people driving carts directly up to the greens and parking the cart in the short space between a green side bunker and the green. The course is not in the greatest of neighborhoods so don't be surprised if you smell hints of marijuana smoke coming from the backyards or the apartment complex around the course or the occasional group of kids playing football in the middle of a fairway. With all the negatives aside, which there are plenty, if you are new to the game of golf this is a great course for you. It's inexpensive and provides a great challenge for anyone learning the game. It's also a great course for anyone that is just looking for a cheap round of weekend golf.
Villa de Paz unexpectedly nice condition
I used to play Villa de Paz several times a year. The course condition then became "rotten" and essentially unplayable. Greens and bunkers and fairways had become unkempt and an eyesore. That was about 3 years ago.
Yesterday, 3 years later, my golf buddies and I were very pleasantly surprised! We came back to Villa de Paz due to the quite reasonable green fee cost. Then we saw the course with plentiful trimmed fairways, newly treated bunkers, and flush smooth rolling greens. Great!
The course layout is fair but always challenging. Although I still plunked too many balls into the water hazards, it was still a good time. I plan to return and play again at Villa de Paz.
golfin is good for you
on vacation and wanted to get a little golf in
two couples went together and had a good time
nice to get out and swing the clubs
Pleasant day of golf
This was my second visit to Villa de Paz. The golf carts all seem to be newer and well maintained. I was disappointed that every tee box did not have functioning ball washers and that one restroom on the course was out of order. I was pleased that the greens & fairways were adequately maintained. Further investment is warranted in the pro shop & restaurant. Overall, it was a pleasant experience for the money spent and I will definitely return!
Fun course
Fun day of golf. Would play here more often if it was closer
Sorry state
The last time I played here was in summer and I expected the fairways to be brown but not this time of year. The pace of play was horrible. We didn't finnish the last 3 holes. The course was not enjoyable. It was cheap but I should have paid more and gone to a better course.
Don"t waste your money !!
Just stay away .....nothing more needs to be said. Save your money....better value elsewhere.
Bring the course up to minimum play standards or close it up!
Villa de Paz Golf Course a true dog track !!!
Back in the early 80's this course was very nice and well maintained, fast forward 36yrs and it has become just a plain dump! Tee boxes are shabby with dirt and grass patches everywhere. Fairways and rough are poorly kept, greens have some grass and some dirt, and are very inconsistent, and management just doesn't seem to care! If you're a serious player and are looking for a quality course, stay far away from this place! Not worth the money at any price!
have a great day
Expect a beautiful day with some great golf and as always with this course you cant be too careful. There is water and sand where you don't expect.
Villa Golf
Course and pace of play were very good. The only thing I could see that needed some attention were the greens. They were not very consistent. I know they just over seeded, so I'm sure they'll be getting a lot better.
My friend and I enjoyed the round and the other pair of Gentleman theyes paired us with. The four of us had a great time.
Not too bad for Villa de Paz
Overall the course was in pretty good shape. However, some of the greens were terrible. One in particular looked like it was used as a path thru the course by the local kids on their way home from school. All tee boxes needed to be mowed. The fairways were in very good shape. Bunkers need sand!!! Luckily I was in only one but I had to play the shot as a pitch shot.
This course going downhill in quality
On-course washrooms both male/female out of order
All greens in very poor condition bumpy and half grown areas throughout
Lots of bird droppings on many holes
Old tree branches laying around & many older dead trees never removed for years (see 9th tee block)
Too many areas on each side of fairways now left uncared for and turned into mud swaths.
Only reason I played here was low $ on a hot deal on golfnow.com but any higher price not worth course condition
This might be the worst course I have ever played in Phoenix
Extremely poor maintenance, poor layout. This type of course might be good for the once a year hacker, otherwise avoid this course at all costs, even if it's free!
Awful..awful golf
Everything about this course was bad. Tee Box fairways and especially the greens are really really bad. Totally understand that overseeing is necessary for all the courses in Phoenix but they should have kept this course close for at least another week or so. It's not worth $25 maybe $5-$10 with this condition. I was going to ask for my money back but I needed to leave immediately
More of a cow pasture than a golf course. People stay from this place for a few more weeks believe me it's not worth $25.
