Oakcreek Country Club is situated amongst Sedona's red rock mountains, providing unique scenery throughout. Opened over 40 years ago, it is Sedona's first golf course. The course was a collaboration between Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and his son. It is a classic, player-friendly layout that offers plenty of room for error. There are also several opportunities to recover errant shots incorporated into the design. Despite its forgiving nature, the golf course definitely has its challenges. There are tree-lined fairways with bunkers strategically positioned in the landing areas and elevated greens bordered by large, swirling bunkers. Three lakes also come into play on five holes. Oakcreek Country Club requires accuracy as well as length in order to score well. Next to the clubhouse there are extensive practice facilities including a large driving range with target areas, a practice green, putting and chipping greens, and a short game area with a sand bunker.

Disappointed

The course is in great shape, good fun round until our cart broke down on hole 13.. tried to call clubhouse at 520 but no one answered. ended up walking the last 6 holes, I'm 60 years old and was prepared for that.. very disappointed that when my son called back the next day they didn't even care one bit. Wil think twice before booking here again..

Pace of play was slow

Pace was very slow, waited on almost every hole even the marshal agreed, cart girl was almost invisible , greens run about a 10 … very slippery if you don’t catch on right away

Perfect Easter Sunday

Shop staff were very friendly, had plenty of water and ice available to load up on, warm up area was great, course was in great shape and is good value - par 3 on the back 9 is GORGEOUS!

Fun track! Bet it could get slow on a busy day with tough pin placements as the greens are quick!

Would recommend!

Beautiful Course Poor Staff and Pace of Play

The bad - young man in pro shop did not welcome our twosome nor do anything but look up and expect me to tell him my tee time. No words and I felt he did not care we were there. First 4 holes took 1.5 hours because we had to wait for a "lesson" on the course complete with a coach and 4 first time players all taking repeated shots from what appeared to be best ball however the pace of play was extremely slow. After the 1st hole we called to ask the pro shop what the hold-up was and were told a course ranger would be sent out to investigate. The 3rd person, a single in our group, asked the "coach" teeing off on the 2nd hole what the deal was and reported back that they were indeed doing a lesson but would be done by 3pm, one hour after we teed off. We were not told any of this when checking in. After the 2nd hole the course ranger confirmed the lesson was being held and offered that we could skip a couple holes and then come back to play the holes we missed. Wow! I'd never heard of such a thing. We played slow through 3 holes and then found an opening ahead of the lesson and took the opportunity to play on the 4th hole. We didn't get to finish the 3rd hole unfortunately and the lesson did not terminate by 3pm but rather 3:30 when all 3 carts in the lesson drove past us on the 4th hole.

The Good - Marty the starter was very nice and helpful. The course was in great shape with super thick rough. Greens in great shape. Or course the real beauty were the red rocks formations. Beautiful, well maintained course in a higher elevation desert.

Fast Greens

Course was in excellent shape and the greens were very fast. Approach shots from the thick tough may roll out 20 feet. Beautiful views, free range ball, and friendly staff make this course a must play.

Nice layout, and views, fun course.

Jason was helpful in the pro shop, with my tee time mistake, thank you., and people in the clubhouse at the turn were nice too. The course is fairly flat, has lots of well placed bunkers, which were not in great shape but fun because they guarded the dog legs and wayward approach shots. Greens rolled very well. Had a great round, very enjoyable.

Amazing views and excellent greens

As an avid golfer I tend to evaluate a course based on the greens. The greens at Oakcreek are absolutely amazing! I personally couldn’t figure them out as I’ve never seen greens like these. They were literally perfect.

The fairways were lush and the tee boxes were level. The staff were super friendly too!

Three things that would make me hesitate about recommending: it’s pricey, even with a hot deal it was $120 to play. Probably worth it because there aren’t a lot of championship golf options in the area. (I did play another course that was more expensive and it was in horrible shape.), the drinks were outrageous! $60 for a six pack of non-beer options. (At the other course we played the same 6 pack was $35.) factor that in, and finally more notably for avid golfers like me… the bunkers were hard pan, luckily I only found a few but when I was in them it was scary to say the least.

Beautiful course. Very difficult… especially if you fade the ball off the tee!

Best course in Sedona

Very nice course, some great Red Rock views, especially liked the back nine. Much more interesting than the front, with elevation changes and variety of hole layouts. Front nine pretty basic, adjacent back and forth holes. On-cart GPS would have been helpful, (use the one available on the GHIN app). Challenging greens! Busy, about 4 1/2 hr round. A nice change from the desert courses, worth the 2+ hour drive.
