Ken McDonald Golf Course
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

This is an average city maintained course
I would play this course again. The fairways are narrow but the dormant Bermuda grass is forgiving. I do think they could do a better job on the grounds for the course.
We golfed with a couple from Alberta and had a very pleasant day on the course. Fairways in great shape but some of the greens were starting to show some brown. The distance from the ninth to tenth tees and from 16 green to 17 tee was quite the distance for someone walking. Overall, a very pleasant day of golf.
The only down-side to this visit was the group ahead that walked the course extremely slowly. As we sat and waited at most holes, not a mention was made about playing through...and as the day progressed, and they became slower and slower, no courtesy was shown. Maybe a Marshall could have intervened.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff
I decided to branch out and try an east valley course. This is a muni course... I got there for an early tee time and was greeted by a very friendly staff member. He made sure I got the $3 special which was 2 draft beers, 2 mixed drinks, or a sandwich at the turn or after the round. The food was also pretty solid. The “beer angel” was readily available as we saw her more often than most courses I’ve been to.
Traps were in great shape compared to the concrete feel most courses at this price point offer.
All around this was a fantastic experience and I wish I lived closer so I could play it all of the time!
I will DEFINITELY be back!!
Played this course for the first time. For $25.00 it is a steal. Course is well managed and maintained. I could tell the employees at this course take pride in their work. Everything was well maintained. I was not expecting much, and boy was I surprised at the shape the course was in. The greens are well guarded by Sand Traps and present a challenge on approach. Course management is essential off the tee. One miss guided shot brings a big number into play. I have played a lot of courses in this area and this is by far the best value for the money. Can't wait to play it again.
The fairways are green and cut short so you get lots of roll. Sand traps are huge and have adequate sand in them. It would be helpful to have more than one sand rake in each trap since they are so large. Greens are generally consistent. Lots of geese on the water hole so much goose crap on the greens @nd fairways.
Ken McDonald Course
Fairways and greens were fine.......layout fairly straightforward.....for the price it is a good time.
A great course to walk.
Perfect short game area. Every course should be like this. Fabulous staff. Restroom s very clean. David
The staff could not have been friendlier, and the course was in great shape and a fun time. Will see you again soon.
Tee boxes and fairways in great condition Greens not lightening fast, which was nice. Quality sand in the bunkers. Friendly staff. Played in 4 hrs. And for $50, it was a tremendous deal.
Staff very nice I like the course fairways good shape greens too
Fairways are green. Greens are a little rough but generally good. Pace of play was good. Some sand traps need a bit more sand!
local muni in tempe,az
first staff Very Friendly, from starter to girl in the restaurant,,fairly flat golf course not much sand in the bunkers and hardly any rakes so lots of unkept/raked bunkers, greens ok but as the round went on got kinda spotty and lots of pitch marks that had been poorly fixed or not fixed at all(it is becoming a huge problem in the Phoenix/Tucson area) kinda a weird layout after nine holes have to go almost 1/4 mile to play the 10th hole across the parking lot and canal to play 7 ho;es and then come back to play the last 2 holes
Played on a day where it rained lightly all round. Needless to say the course got saturated. However, it still played well and was fair. Regardless of rain course was nearly full but pace excellent, finishing in under four hours.
A municipal course worth playing
This course is a gem.
Greens were in great conditions.
Fairways are beautiful
