Ken McDonald Golf Course
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

This course was in pretty good shape. When a lot of other courses around the valley have punched greens right now this course was playing well and a good price.
burning off winter grass
you can tell it is going through transition from winter to summer grass...several brown spots and greens looking a little drier than usual
Good municipal course, excellent value
For seniors, walking this is an excellent deal. $24 on a weekend! Seriously. For an extra $3 you can get breakfast or lunch or 2 domestic draft beers. I didn’t do that, but the guys I played with did, and their lunches looked really good.
Course has some nice holes, many trees and the greens roll very well. I haven’t found a better vs,use in the valley.
Great course for the money, staff is friendly and helpful.
Slow play for a mid afternoon round
Course is in transition , dry , hard and fast fairways & greens , still in decent shape
This was a very nicely designed course, offering many low stress holes. Very user friendly, non-punitive, enjoyable course. It was well maintained, with true greens running at medium speeds. Some of the sand traps didn’t have enough sand. Otherwise, very good condition. Plenty of length depending on tees you choose. I really liked this course!
Great Value and good condition
Just after a May day rain and the course was lightly booked. Pace of play was good, but as we started the second 9, we got more players and it slowed to normal. Greens were excellent and quick. Overall course was well maintained and in good condition. Even had an employee clean our clubs at the end of the round. Nice touch for a small gratuity! I would definitely play here again.
Only course I ever played where rates go up later in the day
Could have played at 7:30 for $14. Or a hot deal at 9-11 for $24 but I try getting out at noon on a weekday in may at a Tempe course as it’s getting warmer is $40!!!!!. Worked at courses my whole life, currently work at ping. What bogus management. I worked at a city municipal and this ain’t it.
Overall great experience. I was a single going out, and pace of play was quick (front 9 in 1 hr 15 minutes).
Back nine a bit of a different story. Pace of play slowed, had to wait on couple of holes...finished in 2 hrs...overall round played just over 3 hrs...I'll take it anytime.
For a muni course, greens were soft and played quick...rough was patchy, but played well. Sand traps soft, no dirt in traps.
Would definitely recommend...
Very nice people work there. Pro shop is welcoming and courteous.Only the beverage cart people don’t seem interested. Have played there 5 times this year. Most inconsistent beverage cart service in the valley.
Ken McDonald is a great value and I hesitate to endorse it because it will get even more play than now. As a municipal course, it delivers value in so many ways - including a great staff and practice facilities - it’s not a resort course, it’s a really well kept municipal course at a really good price.
Flat but fun
Enjoyed the first round of the year. Some very long walks between front and back. Traps were terrible. Greens good.
Ken McDonald has been around for a while and although the fairways and greens are well maintained, the ground seemed very hard. There was a lot of roll with the ball on the course. A couple of times, my ball rolled all the way across the green on my second shot from end to end. The fairways are generally straight with only a couple of exceptions. #9 doglegs to the right around water and it is a steep drop off, so it's narrow to the left to keep it up. One must drive across a parking lot to reach most of the back 9. #10 is a long par 5 that goes across the cart path to the right, so it's better to lay up the drive. There's a lot of water around the par 3 #11. #15 has water at the bend as it doglegs to the left, which is hidden from the tees. Keeping it left may reach the water. #17 & #18 are back across the parking lot near the clubhouse. Overall it is a fun course and in good shape.
Course was in excellent condition.
Professional was very friendly at check in. Offered us the meal special where dor an additional $3 we could get either breakfast or lunch or a couple of drinks.
Also offered to get us on earlier if we wanted but we decided to have breakfast instead. Food was good and the staff very friendly.
Course was in excellent condition and the pace of play was great as we finished in 4 hours.
The course layout was challenging but fair.
Would definitely come back and play.
Old style back and forth fairways. Course in great shape for city course. Just a good as some top level ones.
We were 4 playing and we had a very comfortable walk. The course was in excellent shape. We played under 4 hours.
I would recommend to anyone to play this course.
