Ken McDonald Golf Course
About
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

Great course for price
I wasn’t sure what to expect based on pictures and reviews but found the course to be in great shape. The greens were a touch slow, and the pace of play was a bit slow. For the price I would highly recommend
Great bang for your buck !
Overseed took fairly well, greens in decent shape , pace of play was excellent !
Great place to play
This was the first time playing this course. Signage is needed to show where to go with a drop off sign. Parking was interesting. But all in all, it was fun.
Greens: very consistent and fair. People need to learn how to repair their own ball marks. Some people feel like they are entitled to have somebody else do the work for him. Even with this issue, the greens were great.
Fairways: A couple of holes, pretty narrow, but all in all they were fair. They were also in great shape.
Rough: they did not oversee the Rough therefore there was a lot of dirt spots, and the grass was thin.
Bunkers: The bunkers need a deep racking. Loose sand is very thin.
Tee boxes: most were in good shape, and it was nice to hit off a flat surface.
Staff: all three people I came in contact were very friendly and helpful. You can tell they really care about their course.
The course had some really interesting holes and it was fun to play. Some challenging areas from the whites but at least you felt like you had a chance! Nice job, taking care of the course.
Great Value
I wasn’t expecting much for the price but was pleasantly surprised by the condition and challenging design.
I will play this course again.
Solid course
We play here often when we are in the area. It is a challenging yet accessible course. The clubhouse staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
Kenny Mac is always go good go to.
They have really done well with this course recently. They nailed the overseed. Great value, great staff. Greens rolled good. I liked the old course layout better. The only reason I say that is for walking. It a bit of a haul past the club house twice. Good exercise though.
Nice course for average golfers
This course is a great value for golfers looking to play a course that nice but not crazy
Slow
This was right after overseed. Cart path only, lots of people for a weekday afternoon. Paired with slow players, quit after 2 hours and 10 minutes and only playing 7 holes with multiple groups stacked up waiting to tee off on 8. Normally its great, but not this time.
Nice round before overseed
Played yesterday and the course is dry and fast, but still in good condition. Pace of play was a bit slow, but not too bad as we finished in about 4.5 hours. Great weather and good company so didn’t mind it. Excited to play the course again after it reopens.
Steve S
I always enjoy playing this course. It is always a challenge and the course is drying out prior to overseeding. This being the case, the ball went an extra 15 yards and the greens were faster than usual. New challenge and alot of fun. Staff is a treasure.
Average Muni, Poor Ownership
This one must have changed hands recently. The quality of the course is low but they’re about to go into an over-seed so that’s understandable. The price is not worth it at the moment. They’re charging at least $20 too much. The beverage cart attendants are not friendly. Marshals aren’t doing much for pace of play. The quality and staff friendliness has really dropped off here. Another muni lost. Play somewhere else.
A Better Municipal GC, all things considered
Played this course for the first time in four years. Not much has changed, and that was actually a good thing. White tees add up to 6300+ yards, and my belief that the back nine is more challenging than the front nine was vindicated. I have many well- liked and appreciated holes, but the last two, #'s 17 & 18 are phenomenal. #17 is a short 308 par 4 that most golfers would find themselves putting for a bird. Then, 18 presents a 414 yard par 4 that is a score bustering demagogue. The practice areas are phenomenal. You can spend an entire day at this course and not regret it..
