Ken McDonald Golf Course
About
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

Can’t beat it for $20
Paid $20 for a weekday afternoon to play 18. You can’t beat that deal anywhere right now. Course is in decent shape considering summer conditions. Would definitely play again
Best golf course in Tempe
No wait
Able to tee off early
Good speed of play
Kenny Mac Review
Great staff, including Larry as a starter, Des in the restaurant. Got out early. Just wish you could drive the cart on the 9th fairway.
Unpleasant Experience
My group plays this course often. The customer service seems to be in decline. From the check in to the starter, treated poorly and disrespectful.
In addition, we were not alerted they would be fertilizing the course during the round. The crew spreading the fertilizer had no regard for his safety or that of the players..
Hot day and no drink person out on the course. No Marshall on the course, Players visibly skipping holes or repeating holes hampering pace of play.
Disappointed at best.
Bare spots in Fairways
The course is in okay condition but it is the most burned out one I’ve played on so far this year. The staff was very friendly. They did mention some summer building projects.
Great track! But off-course amenities need work.
Even though this is a municipal course, the layout is challenging. The benefit is that there is no desert to have to deal with. The challenge (if you look at it that way), is mature trees everywhere! This course rewards decent shots. Hit it too far left or right, and there’s almost a certainty of a lost stroke or two. Pro shop staff is very nice and accommodating. Course Marshall’s do their best to keep pace of play on track. Although, during this visit we experienced slow play and had to wait 3-5 minutes on each hole. Not a huge deal because we were having fun. After the round, we went into the bar area for a drink and found the attention underwhelming. We were the only people at the bar and the bartender asked two out of the three of us what we’d like to drink, then walked away. Maybe because we were adults and my son apparently didn’t need anything? He wanted to order food, but was never given the opportunity. We were ignored until we had to stand up and walk over to her to get some service for him. We ended up only getting him a drink because we feared if we ordered food, we’d never get it. Not to mention the prices seem very high. $11 for a hot dog? The bartender was also yawning the entire time, so maybe it was a late night for her and serving customers was too much work. I’ll skip the after-round amenities there going forward. Plenty of places to stop on the way home.
