Long Bay Club
About
The Long Bay Club boasts a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in South Carolina, a major accomplishment when you're competing with golf destinations such as Hilton Head and Kiawah Island. The landscape showcases the beauty of the Lowcountry with forests of pines, dogwoods, and maple trees divided by clear blue streams. The golf course design closely mimics the natural contours of the terrain but there are also countless large, man-made mounds that were seamlessly sculpted into the surroundings. It is considered one of the toughest golf courses on the Grand Strand. Golfers will face numerous bunkers that are seemingly bottomless as well as vast waste areas. The signature hole is the par-4 10th, which features a u-shaped waste area that completely surrounds the fairway and then crosses in front of the elevated, contoured green.

A hard NO - Greens in horrible condition - waste of money and time
Greens were in horrific condition - they were mostly weeds. Could be the worst greens in the country.
Golf course management should have been more upfront, like before they took our money, and honest about course conditions. I even asked about the course conditions while paying and received a very shaky response.
Got to figure it will be years before their greens are repaired.
Only positive was the breakfast sandwich.
Waste of time and money.
Worst greens I have ever played on. We payed $100 round and wouldn’t pay 40. Nobody told us that all 18 greens were destroyed by fungus. Couldn’t putt any hole without bumps, etc. fyi, I never write a bad review. My 2 foursomes got taken for a ride. We should have been comp’d. In fairness, they are shutting down in July to repair them. Wishing them success in their repair process.
Nothing like the picture
Greens are gone
Beautiful cours that need a lot of tlc
Stopped after 4 hrs with 5 holes to play and 3 fore some at the t box
Way to expensive for the conditions
Worse than a run down muni
Just played Longs Bay (April 2023) and was terribly disappointed. The greens were an absolute disaster. The waste areas compacted sand and cement. More like cart paths. Just terrible condition all around for a Jack Nicklaus course. We received a paltry $20 course credit, when they should have refunded 1/2 the prepaid fee. And all this was a surprise as they never sent an email informing us of condition so we could find another course. I didn’t travel across the country (Seattle) to ply this. More like a run down muni.
Frost
Tee boxes and green's conditions were awful ! They suffer from last winter frost...website should mention these conditions!
Last time we played (2022), Course was in perfect condition.
Supervisor tôle us that the course Will be closed from May 17 to the end of August to put greens in condition !
It' s à shame not to publisize that fact !
All the greens had a fungus and were impossible to putt on. When made reservations was not told of this. So bad the course is closing for the summer to try and fix.
What happened to the greens
Returned to the course because of the conditions and layout. Found greens so bad it ruined the experience. Friendly staff. The 90 dollar rate was ridiculous. Me and the 7 people I invited were very disappointed. Hope you get the greens fixed, because the layout is beautiful.
Big disappointment
This was our first course of 4 that we played near Myrtle Beach. We had played several years ago and remember it fondly. Totally different conditions this time. The greens were soooo bad you had no clue where it was going or how very fast it was going to roll. Green dye was sprayed on them to try to make them look like there was grass. There was very little grass. We would have stayed and played a second round but we went across the road to Aberdeen where the conditions were much better!! Hopefully conditions will be better as the spring comes along. (We were given a $20 voucher that we used for lunch. That was very good!!)
Greens are all in terrible shape
Didn’t know greens were in bad shape, they did give us a $20 gift card per player which did help. Staff was great.
Not worth the price
Quirky course not in the best of shape. Greens were terrible. Will not go back to this course in the future.
Very nice course except that for the money we paid on GolfNow, $81, this course should have been in great shape. Nice tee boxes and fairways but the greens were all chewed up and horrible! Tons of places in Myrtle with much better conditions cheaper.
Tee to green is in very good shape. However the greens are in poor shape. Many approach shots require hitting over bunkers. Very good layout.
Horrendous Greens
Don't waste your time or money! There is no grass on the greens, just green painted soil.
They have a nice layout but all 18 greens are a complete write off. No warnings from the proshop prior to paying full price to play on this, completely unethical in my view. Should be removed from GolfNow. This place needs to be closed and renovated before stealing more money from the public. After the round the proshop was unapologetic and only offered a 10% discount on merchandise. No thanks, you stole enough of my money. Never again.
Excellent Course
If you're in the Myrtle Beach area, you need to play this course. You won't be disappointed. Its a GEM!
Good day
Rained night before and courses on Rt 9 don’t drain well That being said the course was in good shape and the greens were fine
