The Long Bay Club boasts a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in South Carolina, a major accomplishment when you're competing with golf destinations such as Hilton Head and Kiawah Island. The landscape showcases the beauty of the Lowcountry with forests of pines, dogwoods, and maple trees divided by clear blue streams. The golf course design closely mimics the natural contours of the terrain but there are also countless large, man-made mounds that were seamlessly sculpted into the surroundings. It is considered one of the toughest golf courses on the Grand Strand. Golfers will face numerous bunkers that are seemingly bottomless as well as vast waste areas. The signature hole is the par-4 10th, which features a u-shaped waste area that completely surrounds the fairway and then crosses in front of the elevated, contoured green.

Nice course, greens a bit too challenging for the average golfer

A nice course with a beautiful layout, nice large fairways on most holes, challenging design, tee boxes and fairways in great shape, and is the 2nd time I’ve played here. There is a lot of competition in Myrtle Beach and this course maybe lacks in two areas: not as scenic as some and greens not designed for the average golfer. That’s no reflection to any employee there as it seems all is well kept considering the amount of play.
We were a twosome, scratch and 8 handicap.
The unfortunate thing in my opinion is that the greens take away from the fun this course could be for the average golfer. Very narrow front to back on many, hard surface with little to no divots (bent grass would be so much better for those narrow greens) and severe penalties for missing the green only by a few feet. It is unfortunate that the designer from Nicklaus didn’t include optional large areas on the greens for pin placements for the average golfer in order to speed up play, yet still have other areas for pro or college tournament play.
In October, the greens were a bit shaggy and rolled slow compared to other courses we played in the area making it even harder to judge putts and breaks on tough pin placements.
I’m sure if I played here several weeks in a row, things could be figured out and would have a better experience with the greens, but we typically play this course once every other year. We come for the fun more than the golf so your mileage may vary. We were paired with high handicappers and they were fun but took longer than it should typically.
On our day of play in October the person doing pin locations placed many on slopes in the thinnest part of the greens that were impossible to land anywhere near the pin and chips had to be very precise. That’s ok but if you bail out to center of green you are faced with severe downhill or swinging putts, and if missing the green, the penalty was far too severe for missing the green by a couple feet. This slowed down play.
Staff was okay but we only interacted with the person taking payment. Most staff were careful amid the pandemic. However, the bag guys still want to take your bag and walk 5 feet to put on the cart without wearing masks, gloves and/or changing gloves or wiping hands between bags, no indication if they are tested each day, etc. I know SC has different requirements than other states, but they should give the option to put our own bags on the cart and maintain distance. Another course wiped down our whole cart including the bag strap for us.
I would recommend this course as we had a good day, but for fun golf maybe look somewhere else as there are many that have great scenery of the intercoastal waterway, harbors, marshlands, etc.

Great time.

Me and buddy played with our high school sons and had a great day. Course in great shape. Windy. We played back tees. Challenging from the tips. Greens were nice. Fairways in good shape. Staff very friendly from the cart guys to the assistant pro. Have played here multiple times in the past. Course usually in good shape. Today no exception.

Greens made for a frustrating day!

Played Long Bay Club and it was in perfect condition. Tees were great, fairways rolled nice, and the bunkers were all in such good shape. The only issue I have with this course is the size of the greens. Nearly half of the greens are slim and require near perfect shots or you are in a bunker or on the mounds throughout the rough. Greens made for a frustrating day

Awesome course, wonderful conditions.

The golf course was in wonderful condition. The greens were a little firm but putted very true. The staff was great, we will definitely be back next year.

Better the 2nd time around

I have a new appreciation for the course this time, and I enjoyed the course a lot. The greens are tough you have to put your shot close to the hole. Larger fairways give you a great target to aim for, but you need to keep it in the short grass, to be able to go at the flags. You need to place your tee shots well on most holes.
This course is recognized by its signature 10th hole, but this course has numerous memorable and enjoyable holes. Most of which, for me are on the front 9. This course is remembered for its challenging par 4s and 5s, non of the par 3s stand out for me.
The course was in good shape, and we will play it again in the future. Its amazing how this course wasn't terribly affected by the flooding after the hurricane in the fall. considering across the street and down a bit Aberdeen Golf Course and its residential community was devastated.
It was nice to return to a course after so many years and find a great course that we enjoyed.

Poor Conditions - Not recommended

If this Jack Nicklaus designed course was played by Jack, he'd be very disappointed. As we came to understand, most of the courses in the MB area were hit with a bad freeze over winter which apparently resulted in greens getting beat up and dried out. Long Bay's greens were definitely affected, but the condition of the rest of the course was also poor. We played 6 MB courses on this trip and this was by far the worst, unfortunately. I would not recommend playing this course until conditions improve drastically.

I'd play again!

Like many of the other founders courses in the MB area this course is consistent. Fairways, greens in good shape and rolling well. My only complaint is while there was rangers, they did not push the pace of play. We constantly waited for a group in front of us, and it was open in front of them.

Very nice. Very wet.

Weather was good, but they had lots of rain prior to my round. Cart path only. Wasn't a problem, but course was extremely soggy. NO roll. Balls plugged. Joined the golf pro and mang. Joe, and employee Charles, on the back nine. Very nice gentlemen. Great players, and very helpful with course knowledge. All and all, a great day. Pace was great. Course is hard enough. Will be back when course dries out.

A challenge

Great course. It's all about the green complexes here. Your approach shots have to be precise. This is a way of saying that Long Bay kicked my butt. Good fun, nonetheless.

Great conditions - challenging greens

First group out, 8:00 am on a beautiful day for golf. Bag drop staff must not have had their morning coffee - generally grumpy and marginally helpful. Pro shop staff and everyone else was great.

$5 for a range token - range was a bit shaggy, but the TM range balls were reasonably new. Putting green in great shape - speed was true to greens on course.

Course was in excellent shape throughout. Only shortcoming was depth and consistently of sand in greenside bunkers - several looked like they had not been groomed for a few days. Not too challenging off the tee, but approach shots were made difficult by bunkers, smallish greens with multiple levels, and lack of hold. Appproaches not coming in high will not hold. Typical Nicklaus? Approaches made even more difficult by lack of reflectors on flagsticks. What course doesn't have reflectors in 2017?

Greens might not have held well, but they rolled consistent, smooth and true.

Interesting that the #10 hole (pictured) looks strangley ordinary from the tee - the waste areas down both sides are barely visible from the tee.

Lots of houses and associated OB, but you only feel cramped on a couple of holes.

I've driven by Long Bay at least 30 times on previous visits to Myrtle Beach. Glad I got to catch it in premium condition on a perfect day - and at a great rate. Just needs some new flagsticks.

A great stop on the way to Myrtle Beach

Excellent course for a great value. The course was in excellent condition for this early in the season. The only thing I would say is that the greens were a bit slow. They were in perfect condition, but needed to be rolled or cut to speed them up. We found ourselves over-putting, but the rolls were true and there were absolutely no imperfections. Fairways were excellent, and layout demands precision golf. No hole is really unfair, but lots of undulations throughout each hole will challenge ball placement. Will definitely play again!
