Elegant and upscale at every turn, the 62-room antebellum clubhouse has been a must for photographers since its completion in 1927. When the azaleas bloom in the spring, it was in this setting that Henry Booth Luce's famed "Sport Illustrated" was founded in 1954.

From the white-gloved caddy master, to the on course chef, everything about Pine Lakes is bathed on old-fashioned class and charm. Although the clubhouse is completely private for the club members, at present, arrangements have been made for guest play through a very select group of member hotels. Should you be fortunate enough to stay at one of these facilities, we suggest you make it a point to visit this classic.

Pine Lakes MB

overall the 4 star rating of pine lakes was accurate...the course was in good shape...the greens are paspalum grass so its very difficult to get fast, but they were smooth and you felt safe giving the putt a run. fairways and tee boxes were in good shape..we played at 200pm and pace was fantastic... the guys in the shop and at the bagdrop were nice. I feel safe recommending this course to others visiting mb

Nice layout

Had wonderful time at this course. It was very windy that day, but it was beautiful day for golf. The greens were very hairy, but it was because they were going through the growth process for the upcoming season. The sand was still pretty heavy/thick on the greens. But you will enjoy this course and have a wonderful time.

No Ranger Poor Greens and abused by golfers

Had a early afternoon tee time and there was a large group of players ahead. Most were bad but pace was not horrible, however no ranger to stop them from meeting up after each couple of holes to talk. Also never fixed a ball mark or divot. Raked the sand in advance then threw out the rack and left all their footprints in the sand. Twice at par threes they were just sitting there waiting on the group behind to talk. Would not go back

course great but ripped off anyway

everything about the course was great. still no driving range which is hard to believe. my issue is with the photographer you see at many of these courses. after buying yet another picture from what i thought was a nice woman i gave her 20 bucks and she told me to pick up the photo in the pro shop after the round. i went in and there was no photo. just my 20 bucks gone! the person in the pro shop was a wonderful guy. i wish i had his name. he contacted the photog and took my address down. that was on may 10. it is now 2 plus weeks later and still no photo. go and play the course but only a fool would have a picture taken and pay for it.she is harming herself and everyone else who does this for a living!

Definitely worth playing if you have no time constraints

The layout here is really top notch. It is a great example of classic southern golf architecture. Such a fun play. Not super long, even from the back tees, but still a test of golf even for the excellent players. It was AMAZING how well maintained this course was considering the amount of rounds it gets played. The one down side is that they do not police groups that are playing slow or getting rowdy on the course. We had, basically, a 7-some in front of us spending up to 15min without hitting a shot and annoying the poor cart girl, and no ranger ever told them to speed up with 2 holes clear ahead of them. With that said, I would still come back here to play again...the layout is that fun.

The "Granddaddy" is nothing special

First time playing here as it was my first trip to Myrtle Beach since I was 15 (31 now). Paid 78.00 for my greens fee, that was too much.

Course is well maintained tee-green, but the layout is nothing special. Greens were like velcro and very slow. Fairways too soft for any kind of rollout. Supposedly the first therefore the oldest course in the strand, but I wasn't impressed. Very crowded as is to be expected, but was fortunate enough to be paired with 2 older gentleman, locals, and we had a great time.

Par 70 layout with 7-8 par 4s measuring 430+. Tough track, a little undesirable IMO.

Bad experience

Had two fivesomes in front of us. Never again. Had to wait on just about every shot. Told pro shop but they were not concerned. Starter/ Ranger was not concerned either. This course was always on my play list but that was a big turn off. Also rethinking Founders Club courses if this is how they operate

Great Greens

The golf course is in very good condition with the tee grounds and fairways very well maintained. If you hit a good tee shot you will get a good lie. The greens are in perfect condition running true and with good pace for the middle of summer, Great front nine but the back nine starts with a par 5 then a 4 but being a par 70 six if the next seven holes are par 4 and it got a little monotonous. The two par fives are nice but hit the same club into three of the par 3's. Great clubhouse with excellent service. The is NO RANGE but with two practice greens.

A Great Golf Challenge

Played Pine Lakes as our first round of a golf trip and enjoyed it very much. The course layout and conditioning were great. The 6,700 yard track was plenty long with the par 70 card. Our whole group found plenty of trouble when we mishit shots, but certainly nothing unfairly punishing. The greatest challenge was the consistently long par 4s and the few birdie opportunities, since there are only two par 5s. Overall, Pine Lakes is a great course worth giving a try.

Great Value

Course is very wide open.. If you tend to spray off the tee box this is your course.. Not much to complain about in great condition.. We decided to play this as the opening course for our trip since it's very open..

"The Grandaddy"

With such a regal name I figured the course should be okay. It was more than OK. From tee to green it was in the best shape of any I played down here so far. The tee boxes were better than my carpet at home. There wasn't a bad lie in the fairway. The greens while quite slow(they leave them high to withstand the heat down here) were pristine also. A fair but challenging test of golf.On of the best I've played. Get out here.

The Grandaddy does what it can on its small property

This Course was originally just 9 holes, and really doesn't have the room for 18. I enjoyed this course simply for the history and it was refreshing to play a golf course located in the heart of the city. A few stand out holes that are still some of my favourites on the strand. But there is a lot of filler in between. As I remember this club had decent conditions although greens were on the slow side.

Very Nice course

The course was in excellent condition - greens, tee boxes, fairways, & traps. The layout was not extremely hard, but there were some challenges to be faced. The coourse played long.We will definitely play this course again.

Pleasant Surprise

This course was in great shape and the layout was fun. The fairways were wide and the greens spacious. This course is a must play for anyone looking for a great day of golf at beach. The fairness and condition are the main reasons I enjoyed playing here.

What happened to the 'GranDaddy'

Pine Lakes was a course that was always on my list of places to play while in Myrtle Beach on vacation...However, it is not what it used to be! The redesign of the course has removed some of what made Pine Lakes a must, the newly developed holes are not up to par with the old layout and the reorganization of the course is not as fun as I remember. Overall the course is still maintained well, but the removal of the cart paths is terrible especially with the amount of rain that Myrtle Beach gets in the summer. At times while I was playing I still got the feeling of the old Pine Lakes Country Club, but then it would quickly change the second I got to a hole that had been changed. I will return in play in a few years to see how it develops after the redesign, but for now it is off the trip list.

Great golf course, but no driving range.

Beautiful golf course, with a nice clubhouse. The only problem is there's no driving range. The pace of play wasn't a problem, and we were a group of three. The guy at the pro shop also booked us a replay at another golf course at a great price. Very good staff.
