TPC Myrtle Beach
About
TPC Myrtle Beach, designed by Tom Fazio with assistance from Lanny Wadkins, opened in 1999 as the Grand Strand's 100th golf course.
Set south of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, the golf course features an abundance of bird life and natural wetlands, which come into play on 11 holes and pine trees frame many of the holes. Tom Watson proclaimed TPC Myrtle Beach an "interesting challenge and a quiet walk in nature."

great greens, great track for the money.
get ready, greens were like a pool table.!! course was in great shape all around. lots of fun!!
The course is my favorite in the Myrtle beach area.
The course was in excellent condition. I was a single and played with three other singles, one my age, one younger, and one senior. The senior played from the senior tees and the rest of us played the blue tees. It was about right for me as a 15 handicap but the others indicated they would play from the white tees next time. I was hitting mid-iron to wedge to most greens. I love the views and the use on natural landscape. The wooden bridges over wetland areas were visually appealing as well as functional.
Challenging course
Very nice course difficult the first 9 holes were in much better condition then the second 9 played but fun course to play
TPC Letdown
I've played several TPC courses and this by far was in the poorest condition with the least friendly staff. There were no marshallers to help with the pace of play and on a hot steamy day in the Myrtle Beach there was no beverage cart. The course was in poor condition and the workers on the course did not yield to players. Overall, a very poorly run facility not in keeping with TPC standards. I will not play it again.
Decent course design but maintenance and better course management is required.
Reserved tee times were not adhered to. The starter allowed groups to intersperse and start late. Groups started on both 1 & 10. They did not necessarily determine whether groups were playing the same tees. My group ended up following two threesomes that were playing some form of scramble from the back tees. None of the players really seemed capable of playing from that difficulty level. To top it all off, course management decided that it was cart path only so the amount of walking required and the overall slowness of the two threesomes ahead caused an over 5 hour round of golf, with waits at every tee, every second shot, etc. The course marshal did nothing to help resolve the problem! the course should require proof of capability to play the hardest tees.
The overall maintenance of the fairways was pretty bad. There were many areas of sparse grass that should have been marked as ground under repair. They did not have any bad areas marked!
This was really a bad day that required a fairly large cost to play.
Additionally, the tee time I reserved was supposed to be "FAST" play. That being the case, I'd hate to see how long it would take to play at a normal pace!
Great design and flow of course
Condition of course was disappointing. I've played two other TPC courses which were impeccable. TPC Myrtle Beach greens and fairways were beat up, not sure if that was due to wet weather. Will try again as I did enjoy the holes and design.
great setting poor conditions
Fairways were blacked out in many spots and some tee boxes were bare. Greens were very good although recently punched and top dressed.
Course was under aireation on the greens and fairways at the same time, staff did not tell me this was the case and charged full price.
Terrible shape at ther time I played. Did not enjoy my day at all. All the other golfers I talked to had the same opinion....all were upset at the conditions and not being told about it before they paid their fee. Very unporfessional in my opinion.
Definitely not the best TPC!
Visitor to Myrtle beach. Played the TPC because we thought it would be to a similar standard as the other TPC franchises. Its a great layout but very poor condition at the moment; definitely not worth the $85 bucks. The staff however we excellent! Would like to replay it at its peak.
Best test of golf in Myrtle Beach area
TPC Myrtle Beach is the best test of golf in the Myrtle area. There are courses that are more scenic but none that test your game like TPC. The only drawback was that the course had been plugged and re-seeded within the past couple of weeks and, therefore, was not in pristine condition. The greens and tees were in "fair" shape, at best. Timing was our downfall. Played it last fall and it was in awesome shape.
If you want a great track with no "iffy" holes, book your tee time now....you will not be disappointed....
Great layout! Very challenging if you play from the tips. Not overwhelmingly difficult for women.
Enjoyed every aspect of the course with the exception of the course recently being aerated. The pro mentioned that they could not get in touch with me to notify me of the conditions. The pro gave us a discount to play, but honestly, I would have played somewhere else - I was only there for a couple of days. Even though the course was aerated almost a week prior the greens were still impacted and affected the roll. In a weeks time I'm sure the greens will be fine.
great layout. condition of course and greens average
Greens thin and bumpy. Running 8-9. Fairways good. Off fairway in bad condition.
Very well maintained course , great layout !!!
All was in good shape considering the local rains they were experiencing when we were there. Bunkers were a little washed out but the rest of the course held up well. Good value.
Had my first hole in one on Hole 5 !!!!
One of my favorite TPCs
I'm beginning to think that the TPCs that don't host tour events are more accommodating to the everyday man than the big shot TPCs that host the pros and TPC Myrtle Beach is a fine example. The days of hosting the Champions Tour are long gone, but the facilities are still here, the Fazio design still in tact and, being Myrtle Beach, the long weekender runs the show.
One of the things that sticks out most about TPC Myrtle Beach ,beyond the Fazio design itself, is just how natural and scenic the course is. Birdlife is plentiful, making it a pleasant day out here regardless of your scorecard. Also, being a more premium play on the Grand Strand, they seem to pack the tee times in a little less than some of the other more middle-tier options. TPC is certainly a great option if you're on the South Strand.
Vaulted into my top 5 on The Strand
At one time I lived an hour from Myrtle Beach and I played several years in the World Am so I have played several of the course on the strand. TPC of Myrtle Beach found itself in my top 5 courses in the area as soon as I walked off of the 18th green. The pro shop, practice area and course itself were all top notch. We were treated like members by everyone affiliated with the course. The course itself was in great condition and the layout is fair for all levels of golfers. The location is perfect as well if you are looking for a few days of golf as you can easily pair this course up with Caledonia and Blackmoor for a great three days of golf.
Course was in fine shape.
Overall the course was in great shape, staff was very friendly, and course presented a real challenge for mid to high handicappers. One bad thing, many of the bunker were washed out to the point they should have declared ground under repair.
Very challenging course - great value at $85
This TPC course provides plenty of challenge from the Gold tees (6700 yards) for good players. Average golfers should play the White tees (or bring plenty of golf balls), as there are many long carries from the back tees to the fairways. As with most TPC courses, it really requires some knowledge of the course to understand where (and where not!) to hit the ball off the tee to have the best approach to the green.
The course is currently in need of some maintenance - at least half of the bunkers had experienced severe erosion of the faces due to a very wet spring. As a positive, there were crews working on the bunkers while we were there. There were also several low spots in the fairway where the grass had died, apparently due to standing water.
The greens had recently been verticut, but were rolling pretty well. Many of the cups appeared to have been set slightly "high" , as slow rolling putts would curl off the lip in all directions.
I enjoyed the challenge of the layout and would like to go back and play it again in better condition. Note that this course would be an "average" value at the list price of $150.
Great Course
Played early in the morning and reraly enjoyed the course. It was challenging, but not impossible to play. I felt the entir course was in excellent condition, and the staff was very helpful. Highly recommend the course.
Great Experience
One of the best golfing experiences in the Myrtle Beach area. A challenging course, but the different tees are set up in a way that it's definitely not unplayable for anyone. You probably won't find better maintained greens anywhere around.
Value not what we expected
not bad couse but rough around the edges, debris laying around. $145 a round much higher than local courses just as good or better. looks like this course used to be great.
