Rates should be given to LOCAL if their license says Bullhead, Laughlin,Ft Mohave that should be considered, also GPS is very speratic. Remember locals are here when Snowbirds leave!
When we arrived at the course was told could not find my confirmation number could not accommodate us for over an hour
Marginal for the money
Greens were in good shape but slow. There was more grass on the greens than the fairways, which has literally no grass and there were a lot of sand areas as well. The bunkers were unplayable hard rock gravel.
First try
The course conditions were a little disappointing
Tee boxes and greens were lush grass ( greens were lush but very slow)
Fairways were either dormant or dried out, made for hitting off some hard pan lyes.
Concern was with the fivesome that magically showed up ahead of us on the second hole, this caused waiting on tee box and approach shots.
My biggest concern with group of five playing ahead of us was their disregard for the signage which added to the degradation of the course.
They were oblivious to the cart paths or signage as they would pull right up to the tee markers on tee boxes, drive right up next to green and drive down fairways on par three’s.
No course Marshall’s to be seen.
Otherwise friendly staff
EL Rio
Good course for the money. Greens were in good shape!
Nice course, dormant grass except greens which are very nice
Greens are very nice, fairways are not over seeded, tee boxes not over seeded. No protection from wind. Course plays fast with dormant grass. Very nice people in club house.
Nice course for the senior golfer!
This course was in average condition.
It is very forgiving with wide fairways.
Very nice staff!
We enjoyed playing it.
Before holiday so real quiet. Went by myself and only few groups around. Was windy and course pretty long. From east coast so grass different. Brown and dry but well irrigated and soft. Will definitely play again
Good value
The course was in good condition for the time of year. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. We will play again and recommend to anyone travelling to this area.
We had a Good Time!
Course was very good for the senior player. Very open and forgiving. Tee boxes were ok, the greens were in great shape! We would have played again, but a tournament and the wind conditions didn't let it work. I will play again when back town!
Enjoyable round and excellent value.
Played El Rio for my first time on a Saturday morning. Course wasn’t busy, so pace was great. Conditions were better than I expected. Greens were great, fairways pretty good. Plush but not soaked with water, so the ball rolled out decent. Bunkers aren’t great as is typical on courses in this area (and understandable due to the wind), lots of small pebbles. The course layout strikes a good balance between giving some challenge while being forgiving for the higher handicapper. #8, 9, & 18 were particularly fun holes to play.
Overall this was an excellent value and an enjoyable round for $55 plus tax and including complimentary range balls. Way better conditions than nearby Los Lagos, not even a close comparison, El Rio is a better layout, way better kept, and cheaper too.
El Rio
Windy, windy, windy. Greens were good but slow. Rough was high, had to stand over the ball to find it. Fairways really good.
Had to sneak on to get in my 2nd nine which I paid for but wouldn't honor
Everything was great when I went there on Mon. Aug 1st, met Eric, chatted with him, Went inside, chatted with the gal who filled up my water bottles. Finished 9 holes using a cart, but paid for 18 through GolfNow's hot deals program.
But it was so brutally hot that I needed a short break before playing the other 9 and needed to go somewhere else to fill up my water bottles (everything was closed at the course when I finished my first nine). I left my cart next to where I had parked my van and a note asking them to please not take my cart away because I was coming back in a little while to resume on the back nine.
But lo and behold, when I got back they had whisked my cart away and there was no way to finish playing what I had paid for unless I sneaked on and walked which I wasn't prepared to do on THAT day.
So for revenge, I went there 2 days later, parked in the desert near the 11th tee boxes, put my clubs on my trolley and hoofed it in the still brutal heat and completed the 9 holes anyway, playing 11- 18, then 10, feeling totally satisfied that I had avenged my misfortune caused by someone on the staff at El Rio.
Paid for 18 and was banned from playing 9 of those
Everything was very good except for the fact that it was so hot and humid that I had to actually leave the course after 9 holes to rest a bit and refill my water thermoses because the pro shop and all facilities were closed after the first nine. I left a note on the cart for them NOT to take it away because I was coming right back. But they DID take it away and locked the keys to all the carts. There was someone in the pro shop at that time so I knocked and the man just scowled at me.
This was when I made the decision to actually SNEAK ON to the course after I gave it another couple of hours to rest and recuperate from the first nine. Without a cart a cart except for my tote cart and in stifling heat and humitity I toughed it through nine more holes to get my money's worth.
But aside from that one humbling experience the experience was truly unique and fantatstic.
Great story. Glad you got in a full round on them!! Thanks for sharing
