Tanna Farms Golf Club
About
Tanna Farms Golf Club in Geneva offers some of the best golf that the Fox Valley has to offer. The layout meanders across prairies covered with wildflowers and weaves through lush wetlands. The course begins with the stunning signature hole. The par-3 opener has an island green that sets the scene for this thrilling and memorable round. Although it's a seemingly short course at 6,510 yards from the back tees, what it lacks in length it makes up for with plenty of other challenges. Besides the first hole, there are a few other tough par 3s, including one with a postage-stamp sized green. There are some daunting par 5s as well. Tanna Farms Golf Club is not a lengthy course but the layout is generously spaced to offer breathing room between the holes and the undulating slopes and subtle elevation changes make it pay much longer.

Good track. Had a lot of rain the day before; but the course drains very well!

Short course, good shape, trouble on course to keep it interesting
Very Good Conditions but sorely lacking amenities
Course does not return to the clubhouse after the 9th hole. Pro shop has a single bathroom with running water for all golfers and employees. Porta Potties 9th green and 13th tee. Restaurant/Bar still closed. Some beverages available in the proshop but no ice.is available to keep them cool. Beverage cart usually on weekend days....I'd call and ask prior to arrival if it's out during the week. There's not much shade on this course and when it's hot you'll really need hydration. No range to warm up on (Mill Creek range is nearby) and a postage stamp practice green w/sticks. The only course in the world that starts out with an island green and it's a really stupid par 3 opener. The par 4 12th requires a pin point tee shot with water all over the place....it's pretty stupid too. The Par 5 13th had drainage problems - their solution was to just let the swamp grow across the fairway at about 180 to 200 yards.....so two stupid holes mar the back nine. From the white tees the front is a short and sporty par 34. The Par 37 back is the challenge. If you play the Blues or Black tees you're in for a long haul home on that back nine. Greens were in decent shape but pockmarked with old ball marks. Traps are mostly a miss but the one I hit into was just fine. Fringes & surrounds in great shape and fairways grasses very good except for unfilled divots. Tee boxes are bit ripped up and should start a renovation program. A lot of tees the markers were placed in downhill areas.....Cart paths are getting a bit bumpy as well. Overall I recommend but 3 stars - the course too many issues & lacking in expected amenities. Also read my previous reviews on this course.....I've played Tanna a least once every season for at least a decade now.....$40 value at most....and that includes the weekend.
Great conditions, no halfway house
The only negative is no halfway house, also werent serving food due to staffing. Need to stock up at clubhouse before teetime because you dont have another chance until after 18.
Fantastic!
Enjoyed the round. Definitely need to be strategic on this course
Save your money!!
Pros: Staff was very friendly. Cost of round was very reasonable ($40, 18+ cart on a Friday).
Cons: Where to begin….Horrible course lay out. Par 3 island green on hole #1. Six par 3’s on course. Even the par 5’s have a bad lay out where many have to lay up and can’t fully drive ball. 6” high dandelion weeds on 2nd cut off fairways. No beverage cart service, only operates on weekends. Beverages sold in pro shop, but no ice was available to keep beverages cold. Restaurant remains closed due to COVID.
Unconventional layout
Par 34/37; 71
4 Par 3s on the front. Waste areas in the middle of fairways lead to good shots resulting in lost balls. Considering all the rain the course was in OK condition. The greens were good except the few holes where it seemed like no one before us had repaired a ball mark.
Challenging Course
I played the course Thursday morning with a friend. The conditions were just a little wet after days of rain. Only a few bunkers had standing water with the others in great shape. Fresh sand and nicely manicured. The greens were running smooth and at a good pace. We took our time and played in three hours. I look forward to playing again when everything dries out.
Friendly Staff
The staff was very helpful with giving tips on how to play a few holes that could be difficult for first timers playing the course.
This course is always fun, especially when it's empty. Zipped through in 3 hrs. Winter conditions...so no complaints about conditions.
Tough track
Course can be tricky. Fairway bunkers are placed at the right distance that either you have to drive over or lay up. The course starts with a par 3 over water and than to a par 5 and back to a par 3. The only wish is they have some kind of warming up area. No range.
Slower than slow
Played at 10:30 on a beautiful Thursday morning. Waited on every hole starting with the second hole. 4 hours and 40 minutes. No rangers on xourse. Their scorecard says rounds should be 4 hours or less. Yeah, I agree. Too many blind shots due to 7 feet high heather or prairie grass. You can't see the landing area in the fairway or on some par 3's. No bar in the clubhouse. I won't play again.
Just a terrible experience
I’ll be surprised if Tanna stays open another year. Obviously they can only afford minimum upkeep to stay open. Bathroom on course was locked and my female playing partner was forced to go in the elements causing stress and embarrassment. One outhouse available after that on back nine. Hasn’t been serviced in forever, no toilet paper.
The layout is terrible, no amenities, and because of all of this, no golfers. Will never go back
