Don't Use Golf Now
I went to the course and they didn't even have my Tee Time through Golf Now. Not to mention the cost at the course was the same on golf now. Just spent $4.00 on a convienent fee for no reason.
Links Style Golf in KC Backyard
The course is set up very well, especially for all skill levels. There seems like there is a tee box to meet all players skill level. Very "links" type golf course, which gets a bit harder when the grass and rough grow.
Winter time golf: the bunkers shoe a little wear and the grand were a little rough and fast. But overall it's a very nice course.
Very Playable
No blind shots, generous fairways, always a pleasant experience. Greens get a little beat up late in the season and bunkers have become hard pan but the fairways are excellent and the layout has always been fantastic and for the price, hard to beat. It helped that I recorded my first ace on the 14th.
Greens and tee boxes need work!
Love Prairie Highlands although I have seen it in much better condition than it was last week. The greens were looking very rough and the tee boxes need some love and attention. The layout is great and the staff have always been 1st class. Pace of play was great. Will be nice to see how it has weathered next Spring.
Lazy
I did not get to play the round because the tee time I got through GolfNow was at 4:15. The golf course told me that they were starting their winter hours and would be closing at 5!!! So what's the point. Have your patrons play as long as you can and GolfNow get your info right when it comes to getting tee times from these courses. Will be deleting this app and not playing that course. God forbid you guys work past 5.
Great Course!
I try to play this course at least once a year even though its a drive for me (it's worth the drive). The staff always seems nice and helpful. The course is always in good shape, greens are huge. It's one of the top 3 courses i recommend in the KC area. You won't be disappointed!
Prarie Higlands GC
This course in the last three years had been immaculately maintained. Yet unfortunately today the fariways were average. The "traps were not existent( no sand and primarily mud,) and the greens looked like a war zone. It would appear either a mgmt change has occurred or they've just decided to "minimally maintain" the course . Till they get this turned around I wouldn't waste my time or money at any price When we're finished our round in the pm you could barely find a spot for your golf cart due to carts being lined up elephants style to go for charging back up to the parking lot . They had a tournament approx 5 hours before our finish. Something not right
Plenty of Firsts
First time review because I had a "first" happen at Prairie Highlands. I have played here over the years and it has always been in what i would call "good shape". Fairways, Greens, Rough, always seemed to be in order. When I played last week I noticed they were struggling with a few greens. Some of them were fantastic and other's seem to have some sort of growth or algea problems. When i got to the 14th green however I was alarmed and then baffled. Alarmed because this green was in need of some drastic help. There were 3 or 4 guys on the green putting new patches of grass in so i spoke with them about it. One of them talked to me about what they were trying to do and why it happened and then another one of the guys apologized for the green and told me to leave my email address so they could send me a special of some sort for the inconvenience. I was then baffled to find out some 5 minutes later from my playing partner that 2 of the guys out working and talking to me on the green were managers or the GM of the course. When i brought the cart back in after the round i looked for one of the guys that i talked to and thanked him for his explanation and his obvious work to fix the problematic green. I've played and been around a lot of golf courses. While the course may be recovering from some damaged greens I give this place 5 stars for the conversations i had with multiple staff members and the level of service i received. Hopefully they get it going in the right direction again with the greens, but the staff earns a 5 star from me.
Not what it used to be!
This course used to be one of the better golf courses in the KC metro area. Unfortunately they must not be doing very well because the course upkeep has waned. Sand traps were full of weeds and hadn't been raked in quite awhile. The greens are showing stress and have a lot of ball marks on them. The tee boxes and fairways are still in great shape but the rough was worn out. The price was right but the course wasn't a fair test due to the lack of upkeep.
Course not what it used to be.
Have played this course many times over the past few years. I've always liked the layout and the course was always in great shape, especially the greens. But when I came back and played it last week for the first time this year, the course was a disaster. Most of the greens had lots of big brown dead spots. The bunkers were unplayable. The tees had a bunch of weeds. Needless to say, I am going to remove this course from my play list. Which is a shame because this one of my favorite public courses in the KC metro ever since I discovered it 4-5 years ago.
Beware of the Greens!
I've played Prairie Highlands several times over the years. The course layout hasn't changed since I started playing it many years ago. However, this year the heat seems to have gotten to the course in both the rough and especially the greens! The fairways were in phenomenal shape, but many of the greens were burnt or even had bare spots! The course managers simply need to learn how to maintain greens in the heat. I've played other courses that don't have that problem at all and well worth spending the $35 we spent to play.
Conditions Terrible!
The course was in terrible shape...greens were burned off and you putted on mud for the most part...tee boxes were overgrown and you could not tell how far your ball was actually tee'd up... I would not pay $1 to play this course ever again until something is done out there. Not to mention that on a decently busy afternoon, there was 1 person working both the pro shop and the snack bar area...running back and forth between them both...worst course I have booked via this service, will think again before doing this again.
Went above my expectations
This was my first time playing this course and I found it to be extremely fun, yet challenging. Heavy rains couple days prior so the the fairways were still a little wet, which caused it to be Cart Path Only play. The course itself was well maintained and would definitely come back. Found a great price on GolfNow.
Enjoy playing this course
Was able to play in less than 2.5 hours, course was in good shape.
Windy day
The wind was brutal and made several holes very challenging!
Great Christmas Round
Played on Dec 24th, beautiful weather. Course was in extremely playable shape.
Prarie Higlands
Course was in great shapes except the sand traps were predominantly flooded. I would have hoped for a less price considering this and it being "cart path" only
A good test
Plenty of length 7k plus from the tips, green are fast but very responsive like they should be, fairways demand accurate shots, along with small protected greens a great course to better your game with. I got around in 3.5 hrs in a twosome not having to wait for anyone, but I could see this course taking a long time to get around on the right day. Nice practice area, range balls and food/bev are priced plenty high :(
Greens still affected by aeration
The greens were aerated about 2 weeks prior and were not back to normal. Sand traps were crusty and often hard. Fairways and tees in good condition. Rough is very deep and heavy. Still is a good course. Got a great price through lastminutegolf.com.
I had same experience when I went on 7/31/2016. More than half the greens were almost un-puttable.
