Hole 6 Photo submitted by sparksjr on 04/20/2015
Nice trek !
Probably one of the most beautiful courses in Central Ky.. Fairways and greens were immaculate. The sixth hole is one of the more scenic golf holes in the entire state. Bring your A game for this course. A fantastic deal and even better experience!
Good track, with the exception of the bukers.
Most of the bunkers either were maked as ground under repair or should have been.
Love this course!
Old Silo is a very challenging and well laid out course. The course was in good condition and the greens were rolling true. The only negative was the bunkers many of which were simply unplayable and was discouraging especially given how well the rest of the course is maintained. I would highly suggest this course, but you better bring your game or a lot of golf balls.
Very nice course
Old Silo is a challenging course. There had just been 3/4 inches of rain overnight after a few days of rain that made the bunkers wet but, the course handled the rain well.
Best shape in a few years.
This course is in the best shape I have seen it in for a few years. All bunkers were raked, six or seven still being removed. Fairways were firm and fast, 40 to 60 yards of roll, better hit these conditions while you can, you rarely see that here. Greens were sand injected and double cut and rolled. At my visit, greens were running around 10. Best condition greens for this time of year in this area outside of Chariot run. Rough was about avg. for everywhere still needs to grow in.
Awesome course!
The course is in excellent shape for winter play. Greens are steady and awesome. This is an outstanding course and is always worth playing.
Ready for spring cleaning
The course overall was good. It is ready for a spring cleaning. The sand looks neglected. Lots of debris throughout the course. It still has some of the most beautiful holes in the state.
good course and in good shape ...got a good price for the round
I like the course ..have played a few times..will try to play more. Just a beginer but been playing for about 4 years..
Great value and challenge.
I'm a beginner, and this was definitely the toughest course I've played yet. However, it was tons of fun! Very good conditions for January.
Tough Test
Course is in great shape for mid-November. Tees, fairways, and greens are all good. Greens were medium speed and rolled true. Still some issues with the plethora of bunkers on this course. Some are ok while others are ground under repair. Others have been abandoned and grassed in.
Must play!
Course is in great condition for the time of year. Several traps are being worked on and one tee box had been reseeded, so all tees were at the same area. Did not affect play. The greens were in great condition and quite fast. Payed $10 on Golf Now which is less than most courses charge for carts. Staff was very friendly. Have not played here in 11 years, because it is a ways off the highway. Will not wait another 11 years to play again. The weather was not the greatest, but that was the only negative.
Best course I've played all year
The course was in excellent shape. The fairways were nice and the greens were quick
Challenging but fair..drive up and look if you havent seen the course before. The blind shots aren't all that straightforward.
YOU GOTTA PLAY THIS COURSE!! IT'S WELL WORTH THE DRIVE TO MT. STERLING! This was my second round, and we played with a veteran of the course, so it went much better. This is a challenging course that is unbelievably beautiful, but you need a sky caddie or a local to really play it well. It is visually intimidating in several areas, and even though there is plenty of room for even duffers, it doesn't always look like it. Blind shots and shots off elevated tees require a bit of knowledge that just isn't available without a local or a skycaddie. Dont' take this as negative,by all means, play the course, and you will enjoy the day, for sure...just be warned, that you might need to take a minute and drive up to the top of the blind shot and take a look....it is a fun, lovely course and thanks to Golf Now, it's very affordable, just keep your eyes open for bargain tee times...We got behind a money game, and that slowed us down.. the pace of play is usually quite good...
The fairways and greens were in excellent shape
The course was in excellent shape, even though we played in mid-October and the temperatures were below normal. There were plenty of staff to attend to our needs and they had a cheerful and helpful attitude. I was celebrating a career achievement, and the woo-hoo! girls at the bar encouraged us to have shots, which we did, in moderation.
Challenging course with great views.
Was 1st out as a single, so my playing time is not indicative of a normal round. Worthy of its rating as number 1 in KY. The course is a great layout with lots of elevation change and some really nice views from the Tees. Course conditions were very good though the greens were punched recently. You also can't beat the rates. Would highly recommend for all handicaps.
The course was in ok condition, but is a very interesting course.
The course was in kind of rough shape the day I played. Rain the day before had washed most of the sand down in the bunkers and some were still full of water. Even so, this is still a great course to play.
Great course....Potentially
Booked on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Get to the course, everything looks great, initially.
My first problem is that virtually every sand bunker was flooded with water (no pumps or anything in sight to show the effort of removal), which is bad for a course that is known for its bunkers.
My next problem lied with the staff/management. We made the turn at approximately 5:30. The clubhouse and restaurants were closed. This wouldn't be an issue normally, except some of the waterjugs on the course were broken and there were no vending machines. Also, it was amazing that we never saw a single cart girl the whole round. There was one employee there, but he offered no help of getting us a water/pop/anything.
Overall, I love this course, it seems like an amazing course. It's beautiful, tight, and the greens were amazing. Someone in management just seems like they need to get their stuff together. I'm just glad that no one was with me who came a long way to play, or I would have been very disappointed.
Great golf course!
This is always a fav of mine to play and I always enjoy it. The course is kept in good shape and play is never slow.
Some bunkers are ground under repair but I 'd play Old Silo everyday for $25.
Fairways and greens in good shape and most bunkers. A few bunkers need some more sand but course is good value for $25.
