As Sands
We played on a day where it rained most of the morning. Teed off at noon and course was in good shape.Greens were in excellent condition. Plenty of bathroom facilities on course. All in all, it was a pretty decent day!
Good Value
You could tell that they had worked hard to improve the course and it showed. Great staff, from the club house to the starters. Female friendly course, which is nice.
Tee boxes and greens in great shape. Loved the addition of GPS on carts.
Easy Layout
Played this course with my wife we both enjoyed the layout and condition of the course and greens course was in good shape for the amount of play it was getting would recommend to others
Spectacular service
Had an amazing time at this course. Friendly staff, wonderful course, easy going pace. Everything I look for in a course. This will be my golf course of tradition from here on out. Thank you so much.
Slowest pace ever
Starter rushed us off to the tee box only to have to wait from the get go. Front nine took over 2 1/2 hours for our twosome. Pace time was -30 minutes. Called for a ranger to come out. No response
Terrible decision
First and foremost I tried this course because I recently moved to the area and saw the commercials on the local TV boasting its greatness. So I tried it out. The staff was pretty friendly but beware of their bag drop guy Garry. He’ll act like your best friend, promise you free golf and get completely psycho against you. Golf a few rounds with him, take your phone number and just make your golfing life miserable. Good luck getting a tee time around here after that. He has his ins and if you double cross him, good luck getting any golf course to take you in.
Azalea Sand
The word sand is in the name for a reason. Lots of sand bunkers that come into play but the sand is consistent enough to get up and down, which I did several times to save par. Great layout. Greens were a little slow but putts rolled true. Inside and outside staff were great, friendly. Starter gave directions since it was my first time playing but won't be my last. An excellent test for all levels of ability. I actually used a hybrid set of tees, both Blue and White, permitting a proper test of my level of ability, using the par 3's and the long par 4's as the measuring criteria.
Great Confidence Builder
The staff is nothing short of spectacular!!! Our business was clearly very welcomed. The greens were amongst the best in the area. The course itself needs a some TLC but it’s certainly playable and not a dog track (it’s no Tidewater or Caledonia) and the rates are very fair. Azalea Sands is a pretty straight forward golf course which is very refreshing. High handicappers will enjoy this course because it won’t beat you up too badly and you won’t loose a lot of balls. Hitting the fairway is a premium because the rough will gobble up balls but again this course is very playable for all golfers. This is a tremendous course to regain some confidence. GPS on the carts was very nice and appreciated. My only real grip with Azalea Sands is no drinking water for the golfers and no cart person — so I strongly recommend that you bring your own beverage because you must hydrate. I now live in the area and I’ll most certainly return.
Great outing despite 100 plus heat conditions
Our trip was fantastic despite heat concern. We booked an early teatime to avoid the high temperatures. The starter got us off promptly and although we had a family of 7 ahead they allowed us to pass thru and pace was consistent. The coarse is very forgiving to seniors, women and a child. We had a group of 4 (man, sr man, women & an experienced 11 yr old) and kept a great pace with some challenges. Great value for the money,!
Unfriendly staff, inconsiderate to high heat
Here on vacation, mid August, record high heat index. Went to grab a cart 10 mins before tee time and get yelled at by staff. Same employee then gets into an argument with another guy about his cooler. Figured it was over alcohol so left ours open to show it was just water and sandwiches. Find out no cooler policy, no exceptions. Remind him it’s 105 degrees, says if we have a problem go inside and ask, so we do. Let the employee inside know it was just water and food and he gave us the ok. Go back out and the original argumentative employee says we’re lying and storms inside. Comes back out and tells us no cooler. Why would you tell us to go inside and ask if you’re not going to accept the answer? There was no water on the course. Saw cart girl twice in 18 holes. Course condition was ok. Plenty of courses in the area, would recommend playing somewhere else.
I would play again
Visiting from the mountains, my son and I chose ASGC for the convenience to our family's house. This was our first time playing at the beach and we are both beginner level players. I felt this course was great for our skill levels. Although, we both struggled with the heat that we are not used to playing in. We wound up bailing out after our 14th hole since a slow foursome somehow slipped in between us and the guys we were behind between the 9 and 10 and we spent more time waiting on them than playing. I think we will try it again during the winter months.
