Mauna Kea Golf Course

For how much it costs to play here, you’d expect really nice greens. The greens looked like my local town course that costs 40 bucks to play at. I was pretty shocked. Course plays difficult as well. I was trying to decide between Mauna Lani or this place and I chose wrong. For the money, play Mauna Lani just down the road. Its 10/10 conditions and has more holes along the ocean.

We went in knowing next to nothing about the course but we're able to get a hot deal through gn and decided to give it a try. The gate entry person warned us we may not be able to play due to high winds. We were able to play but we're warned again about the winds by the pro shop and they definitely were pretty intense. We decided my wife and I to play a scramble to take a lot of the pressure off and that was a great decision. Instead, we were able to just take in the beauty of the course and the views! Our cart girl Jen made sure to come by often to check on us and was incredibly friendly. Overall, this was a great experience and would definitely come back on a less windy day to see what kind of scores we could shoot.

If you haven’t played this, you must. Wow is the best word. Old school design. There are rumors of a needed renovation (greens and bunkers) but don’t let that stop you. Yesterday was best condition I have ever seen it.

Nice track, ranges along with the staff. The cart girl was friendly and came by twice. Great scenery.

Overall it is a great experience at Mauna Kea. The only challenge is the bunkers were not as good as they have been in the past

My favorite course in the entire island, it’s a must. Then grab a cocktail at the resort bar and enjoy sunset.

Beautiful course, great condition. On course markings are a challenge or non existent. Hole direction and tee box indications are lacking. Everything else was perfect!

The course design is great, reared smart course management and welcomes all sorts of players for a chance to score a good round. If you are a long hitter (260 yards driver of the tee)I recommend playing blues or blacks, for every one else red (resort tees or whites).

The greens are fairly large, well conditioned, but with challenging and fun breaks.

If you are for a huge challenge, play when is windy, all I have to say is: good luck!

The views are outstanding! I mean postcard worthy and you won’t regret the experience.

The practice area is very nice, well maintained and supplied with plenty of clean and organized balls.

Liked this course better than Hapuna, Mauna Lani (both courses), Waikoloa, Hawaii CC.

Very little wind made for a great day. One group spent a bit too much time taking photos but let us play through. The greens are good but have some irregular patches. The only down side was the condition of the traps - grass growing in some and random sand depth - it didn't help that it seemed no one had raked them after their shots. Still well worrh the visit.

The course was beautiful and in excellent condition. Greens were in very good shape. Staff was friendly and helpful.

All the fairway and green side bunkers were in very poor shape. Looked like they hadn’t been maintained for weeks. Very disappointed for the price paid even on a Hot Deal offer. Regular green fee rate is $250. Would not recommend.
