Scenic
Finally saw ocean on back 9. Downhill green on dogleg left was awesome.
Stunning course!
Loved playing this course. Fairways were nice and wide but had plenty of challenges closer to the pin. Stunning Mountain View’s on the front nine then nothing but ocean views on the back.
Must play
Stunningly beautiful, challenging and extremely well kept. Great staff and nice facilities. Yes it’s expensive but definitely worth it.
Great day
Challenging golf course with great views. Course conditions were spectacular.
Over priced
The course was really very nice. In fact it was beautiful. The amenities were great. The staff were very friendly. It’s just too expensive compared to other courses on the island. In fact, I played Poipu Bay a few days ago and I think now it was a better course then The oceans course.. nice. Great. But not worth the price.

Always love playing this course. Challenging layouts, fast greens and trade wins add to the difficulty. Amazing views on the back 9. People are always very friendly & accommodating. We always play 3-4 rounds at this course every trip.
Breathtaking views
From the time we loaded our top notch cart to the end of the round it was an amazing experience. Course is a bit more challenging than the neighboring Kauai courses but super fun and beautiful. Staff was extremely friendly. It rained on the back nine and it was nice to have the built in rain cover on the cart. Played this course twice while on vacation and thoroughly enjoyed each round. Wish all courses were this nice!!
Lethal and lovely at the same time
Hokuala ranks right up there with Kiawah Island's Ocean Course for its combination of scenery and difficulty. You can lose a handful of balls in the jungle on the front nine and more in the ocean on the back nine. It's quite the test in the wind.
The Jack Nicklaus design features the longest, continuous stretch of golf on the ocean in all of Hawaii. Once you turn the corner toward the 13th tee, a sea of blue takes over the backdrop. Some of the holes coming home get a little awkward. The 15th is a cruel par 4 with a blind tee shot over a bunker to a tilted fairway that kicks balls hard left into a water hazard. My advice on the blind 16th is to layup with a 7 iron. The fairway narrows and drops to a green in the shadow of the harbor lighthouse. It's tricky.
More water on nos. 17 and 18 requires golfers to finish strong or risk limping back to the clubhouse.
Play this course when on Kawai
This is a beautiful golf course with two very distinct 9s. The first 9 is long and challenging with some great holes with challenging approach shots.
The second 9 is beautiful on the water with some of the most amazing golf holes I've ever got to play.
Always a Pleasure
Greens were just aerated and top-dressed, with the usual effect on putting, but we knew this going in. The rest of the course is in excellent condition.
And as usual, the holes that look easy aren't, and the holes that look impossible aren't either, (but close sometimes) . :-)
Played Hokuala every year for 21 years
My wife and I have been coming to Hokuala every year for the past 21 years (our anniversary). We have seen many changes. None of which have affected the beauty and fun factor of the golf course.
Yes, the facility did have a glamour time with boats in the lagoon, beautiful statues in the pond and on every hole, Clydesdale's pulling beautiful carts, and wonderful nightlife. These things were nice but didn't add to the golf; which remains sensational. We do miss the Mokihana course though.
The golf course is our favorite on the Island and we've played them all. The front nine is gorgeous and offers a typical Hawaiian plantation layout (only better). The back nine provides the best ocean links on the island. Both are challenging but fun. The course is lush, green, and well-maintained. We have always been welcomed and treated extremely well.
Just got back to the mainland yesterday and are planning our next visit.
