Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 10/2019.

Possum Trot opened in 1968 with a mission to serve the common man and it's stayed that way all these years. They allow walking, which is nice because the course is known for its year-round conditioning. It was built to give the average gentleman or lady golfer a pleasantly challenging, but not threatening, morning or afternoon on well-kept fairways and manicured greens.

It's a Russell Breeden design, and he put in wide, mostly flat fairways and large, mostly flat greens. The course plays through Carolina pines, a few oaks, lakes and ponds. Look for the 200-yard, par-3 13th, which has water the length of the left side and five large bunkers backing the green. Hey, that's why you brought the cooler.

It's a public course and a traditional coastal Carolina layout, and they space the tee times so you can enjoy the beer you brought, although there is a size restriction on the coolers. Bring small beer. It's a very playable course, with a slope rating of 127, and the greens are TifDwarf Bermuda. A great bargain for the price. Improvements have been made in the last few years, including reshaping tees and fairways, improving additional mounding and irrigation and drainage improvements. Possum Trot also has the first complete indoor-outdoor practice and instructional facility in Myrtle Beach.

This was Possum Trot for generations of winter, spring, summer, and autumn visitors to the Myrtle Beach area and for resident golfers at special winter and summer rates.

Things have changed dramatically at Possum Trot in the last few years; the conditioning, the course appearance, and the friendliness of the staff are all still here. But many improvements have been made including reshaping tees and fairways, improving additional mounding and irrigation and drainage improvements.

Possum Trot has the first complete indoor-outdoor practice and instructional facility in Myrtle Beach.

Playin" Possum

Read a review on a brochure that said that of all the Glens courses this was the most player friendly. I've played them all now and i agree. Wide fairways and not as long as the other Glen courses. There is some water(not much) and some bunkers( again not much I found one all day and of course it was right against the lip. Took three to get out, made a snowman.) All the par 3's were mid irons and the 5's were very manageable. The greens had been punched a week prior but they still rolled better than the local muni I play up north. They were holdin' too Fairways were in excellent shape and the rough was not that bad..It's not a WOW! course but as some of the reviewers have stated before, it's a good one to get going on and build some confidence. The price is defintely right .

Playable warm up course

Nice fair layout. Fairways forgiving with undulating greens. Fairways nice enough for summer rules. Only complaint was green speed estimated at 6 on stint meter. Too slow to get a nice feel. Too bad

Nice Old Style Course

Nice old style golf course with everything right out in front of you. Overall conditions were good. Some fairways were a little thin & some greens bumpy but putted fine. No real complaints considering the amount of play thus course gets. Pace of play was 4 hours as a foursome. Stall very friendly

Decent course...

A good course for a warm up round. Greens weren't great, but they were very puttable. Ran about a 8.5 on stimp. Fairways were about a 7 and had to roll the ball upwards of half the time to get reasonable lie in fairway. Traps had good sand, but weren't raked. Lots of foot prints. We were first out so they were there from day before. It's a pretty interesting design, actually. Just has a bit of a muni feel to it. Overall I'd give it a 7 out of ten.

Easy track - great greens

The course has received 3 days of rain, but there was little standing water, bunkers where in expected shape, not raked, with water in the low spots. However, the greens were superb and true. It is an easy track and you can score well there. Big fairways, but the cuts were narrow. Rough was very shot. Played this track in the World Am.

The course is in poor condition

Paid too much for a less than average course. There are plenty of great courses and with fair green fee.

Very enjoyable

The course was in very good shape considering we had 3 inches of rain the night before therefore cart paths only. Greens rolled well tee boxes were in fair shape. Fairways in excellent condition. My wife enjoyed it and stated she would play there again given the chance. Good bang for the buck

Nice little course for a quick round

There had been torrential rain in Myrtle Beach the day before and the day of our round. I was surprised the course was open. There was standing water in the fairways (cart path only) but the greens held up very well. No water on the greens and putted well. Because of the weather the course was empty and we played in just over 3 hours.

Lovely course with smiling faces

Arrived early to ensure plenty of time to hit range balls and practice putt on those difficult bermuda greens. Starters are sticklers for timeliness so don't roll in at 810 for a 812 tee time. Play was fast with lots of beautiful holes, little water, fast greens. The squirrels are tame and have little masks, like bandits. Played the back 9 with Ted, a starter and a character for sure. Possum Trot is officially my favorite MB course. Will return and have already recommended to my friends.

Good warm-up course, but not a good value

The course was in good condition although a little soggy in spots due to rain the night before. The fairways had good grass coverage and rough was in good shape. My only complaint was the speed of the greens. They were painfully slow; probably some of the slowest I've ever played in MB over the past 12 years. It's a decent warm-up course as it's fairly wide open so you can recover from most wayward shots. Overall though, I don't think it's worth what they charge to play there. MBN South Creek, which I could have played for about $15 less, is comparable in my opinion.

PS - I am male despite what my profile says.
