Winged Foot West is my first 5-star golf course I have reviewed, and it is easy to see why. Winged Foot is consistently ranked as one of the greatest golf courses in America. This A.W. Tillinghast design has insane green complexes, a fun variety of holes, and insanely difficult chipping areas. It is easy to see also why Winged Foot is also ranked as one of the most difficult course. At 3.5 inches when I played it, getting up and down on firm and fast greens was virtually impossible, and I can’t imagine playing in 5.5 inches of rough for the 2020 US Open. Off the golf course, Winged Foot hasn’t my new favorite clubhouse. The history inside is something that die hard golfers could look at for hours. The locker rooms are also very cool and famous. The original lockers from 1923 are still in place, and the showers are unbelievable. It shows how Winged Foot does a great job of not being the most fancy, but instead gives you what is necessary. Also, the logo is A+.
Technically not my first 5 star overall, but it is my first time rating 5 stars for every category.
What an unbelievable golf venue, perfectly manicured in every way. The greens are brutal quick, if ur on the wrong side of hole, you will be lucky to 3 putt. A bucket list course. Exhilarating and frustrating all in one.
Best day of golf EVER!!!!
Member guest outing. Top notch amenities and great caddies. Played 18 on the East course and 9 on the West course. Perfect weather, perfect conditions, great lunch, dinner and prized/raffles. Oh, to be able to afford a membership. ;-)
US Open Venue doesn't disappoint
Winged Foot - West is truly a special place and lives up to the "Big Boy" golf course that it is.. The Par 3's are an outstanding set, challenging every area of your bag, while the greens are some of the smallest "large" surfaces I have seen, as due to the slope and speeds, there are very few spots to leave yourself an easy up and down. While the golf course is pretty much "all in front" of you, none of it is easy...
This course is perfect in every aspect. Challenging yet fun. Not an option for beginners as greens are fast and unforgiving. The rough is so thick you may loose your ball. Caddy is a must and will come in handy reading greens and local knowledge. This is a bucket list course if you have the opportunity to play do not pass.
