Augustine Golf Club
About
Carved from Stafford County's rolling, emerald green hills, Augustine Golf Club plays across a scenic landscape abundant with mature pines and hardwoods. The pristine white bunkers and the lush fairways contrast nicely with the trees. The course conveniently sits just 30 miles from the Washington Beltway. In 2011 when the golf course was acquired by Raspberry Golf Management, who are responsible for several courses in the area, Augustine underwent major renovations that increased its playability. The greens, fairways, rough, bunkers, and tee boxes were all redone. The layout offers a challenge but is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Included in a round of golf at Augustine are range balls and unlimited use of the driving range, which has different targets and a large putting green.

Slow day hitting balls off dirt
My buddy and I played yesterday. We tee'd off at 8:03 or thereabouts. We finished about 4:45 later. Horrendous. And, I have not hit so many shots off dirt in a long, long time. The course looks like it hasn't been watered in months. That said, the greens were so slow I thought they were made of green Velcro. The course is. challenging but the layout is good. The food at the turn was good. I have seen. I have seen the course in excellent shape and poor shape. It leans toward poor now. At $65 a head, they can afford water.
Nice layout, BUT...
I played this course a couple of years ago and got rained out, but I really enjoyed the holes I played. I looked forward to returning and playing it all. Imagine my disappointment.
1. The conditions were abysmal. I was told it hadn't rained in awhile. This wasn't a drought. This was clearly long term negligence. Weedy, thin fairways and tees. Greens were at least green, but slow and uneven.
2. They started a shotgun scramble tournament at 9, then started booking tee times at noon. I went off at 12:15. It took 2:40 to play 7 holes, then I stopped looking. When the tournament cleared, things started moving again. But what were they thinking, giving it 3 hours?
I could live with that, but not the conditions. Sorry, but I can't recommend this course until they get it back in shape.
Needs help
Modify your expectations when booking here. I played on a Sunday morning. The round took 5 1/2 hours. I played a dodger course the day before and played in three hours.
This course was baked out to the point that it was very difficult to take a divot except in front of the third green, where it seem like it was the only place to get watered (soft, squishy ground).
The greens were REALLY slow.
Great day except for pace of play
The usual, open tee times, great staff. Great value for a weekend (Memorial Day weekend). Course conditions were good, not great. But greens were terrific. The course layout is not overly challenging but makes you work on course management to score well. Staff was great and courteous as usual. The only issue was the pace of play was particularly slow, which is not the norm.
Declined coarse conditions
The layout of this coarse is a lot of fun. The greens were nice and full but a bit slow. We may have played the day before they were due to be cut. The most disappointing part of the round was the fairways. This course really needs some work done on their fairways. Lots of dirt spots and need for more grass seed to be applied. The fees are pretty high for the area and it doesn’t appear management is reinvesting the funds back into the coarse.
Played by myself on a sunny but brisk day in March. Beautiful course, rolling hills, was well mostly kept. Presented lots of fun challenges with hazards, definitely not easy for a hack like me. Carts were gas powered and a little on the older side. Will be coming back now that I have an idea of what to expect.
Rough conditions to start the season
Augustine always disappoints. The layout is fantastic but the course is in horrible disrepair. The tee boxes are chewed up. The fairways feel like 50% mud and 50% weeds. The bunkers have some shockingly large stones in them (be careful! Seriously. Some are bigger than a golf ball). I get that it is early in the season but it’s just sad to see an old gem run into the ground. It’s definitely not worth the price tag and only gets play because it’s the only 18 hole course in Stafford.
Winter round at Augustine
This is one of my favorite golf courses. It is somewhat challengeable to me. I enjoy it always.
Nice Round of Golf
I enjoyed the round and the course was in pretty good condition for a wet February day. I'd play it more often if I was from that area.
