No Cell phone coverage!
Indian Valley is beautiful. Hills. Remote. West Marin County perfect. But no cell service.! Due to winter rains (thank god!) course was still cart path only. Which would have been fine except for no cell service, which means no yardage readings for me. Probably had 5 or 6 shots where I brought the wrong club(s) and did not go back for the correct ones due to not knowing yardage
Good day to play between storms.
Ground was wet since it just rained the day before, but no standing water. Grass was wet so if your game relies on a roll there was not much of that today. Still was a enjoyable round.
Sloppy conditions
The course is great but with all of the recent rain the conditions were very sloppy and one of the holes was entirely washed out.
Good Day to play before storm comes in
Course was wet in places but when walking the course it didn't make a lot of difference. Balls could roll some on the fairway, but if the shot was high and dropping it could plug in the rough and be hard to find. With the next storm coming in it will probably be cart path only for a week or more.
good course for winter play if you love walking
Course was cart path only but we always walk this course. It has lots of ups and down which makes it a challenge but fun to play. It rained two days before we played but course was in good shape considering the recent rain.
Golf course for all levels
The course is in great shape and the pace of play was very tolerable. Two of us walked in 4 and half hours. It’s a great course to play for all levels, not too challenging
Diamond in the rough
One of the few mountain courses in the bay. Valued price of 23$ sure doesn't hurt. Course has a lot of elevated shots which makes for a lot of fun. Additionally it has a lot of wind coming through the hills making you learn to judge every shot.
Not as good as I would expect.
Usually a beautiful place. Greens were bad, bumpy and not cut. No good reason.
Course with the most character
Love this course. A little out of the way but when I have the chance I make the drive. No hole is the same plays to the terrain. Can't wait to play this in summer. The views are amazing it's like playing in the mountains without having to go to the Sierra's.
Course needs some Work...
Contrary to some of the reviews below, the staff in the pro shop were really inviting. Omar helped orient me with the course amenities and where everything was with a cheerful attitude.
IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING BUT VERIZON, YOU WON'T HAVE CELL/DATA SERVICE. The pro shop does have Wi-Fi though!
The Course:
#4 Hole is closed with what I heard was another 2 weeks from 15DEC. They have an alternate card as well as an extra short par 3 hole behind the club house to make up for the lost hole.
#2,3,7 greens were in horrid shape. The greens were bumpy and definitely had not healed properly from getting punched. This was the case for most all the greens on the course. Putts consistently were bouncing not rolling true. I'm almost positive they haven't been rolled since they got punched, they were SLOW and inconsistent. When you can clearly see and feel (with your hand) the indentions from the tines... it's pretty bad. The weather probably didn't help, the greens were so saturated that there were footprints left by groups ahead.
Fairways were in typical fair muni course shape, so not too many complaints there.
Pace of play was great, we finished within 4:30.
Course is definitely a plotters course. If you're going out there for the first time, make sure you research the course on google maps before you head out. The cell coverage is slim to none unless you have Verizon.
I might give this track one more shot in the summer, the views and wildlife on the course were a pretty neat experience.
Damaged greens
Greens were severely damaged from a failed aeration attempt and mold/fungus growth.. Malfunctioning mower created random lines of untrimmed grass that ran through some of the greens which severely effected putts. Unfriendly pro shop provided no mention of course conditions when charging full price for a Monday am round. "Out of towners" get the cold shoulder from staff.
Overpriced and unfriendly
Check in was met with an unfriendly, dry and cold attitude, maybe the guy was having a bad day, but then he shouldn't be posted at the check in desk which is the primary customer service point at a golf course. Same with the service at the cafe, I couldn't tell if the lady was upset or having her own bad day or if that was just her normal demeanor.
Greens had been punched and sanded with no prior notice before booking the round. Every green was rittled with divot-like punches, and even that wasn't the only problem, they were soft and spongy, very slow and unpredictable. Course was in muni condition at best (even aside from the greens). Fairways were bare in many places, rough/course boundaries were unmanicured and overgrown. Layout and design were definitely interesting and worth a round, but even so I could not ever justify coming back unless they dropped their prices by $20-$25.
Got a great Hot Deal price on a Monday morning, course was nearly empty since there was a shotgun tournament start at noon.
Course is in nice shape, and it's a beautiful place to play on a nice day. Almost no houses or signs of civilization at all, out in the country.
Aside from having a huge old Oak in the dead center of the 1st fairway, it's a pretty fair course.
Too slow pace of play!
Great weather, nice course, challenging elevation changes for those walking but good exercise. All of this was made much less enjoyable due to the 5 1/2 hours that it took to get through 18 holes.
The marshals at public courses need to take their job seriously. They can politely tell groups to skip a hole to catch up to the next group. It is ridiculous for the rest of us to be camping out at each hole. We literally had 3 groups sitting at one par 3 hole waiting for the group in front of us.
For those of us who love the diversity of playing different public courses instead of being a member of a private club, I beg of you marshals, please take your job seriously. And golf course managers, when hiring marshals, please hire employees who have maturity, grace, and have perfected the velvet hammer approach. We all will really appreciate it!
Marshalls at public golf courses won't do anything because it's a PUBLIC GOLF COURSE !!!
Well said and helpful. Thanks
Good golfing
Course was really good. A bit windy but met some nice guys.
Nice course
Play this course about 2-3 times a month and it is is great shape and the pace of play is always under 4 hours for 18.
Great conditions
The course is in great shape and is one of the best in the north bay. The greens have been spotty in the past but are now in excellent shape. There are also some new tee boxes that are very nice.
Very nice course
Best course I have played this year when it comes to how nice it was, and how challenging it was as well. Beautiful views from the tee boxes. I highly advise people to try this course at least once
Spend a few bucks and switch to Verizon. Excellent coverage on the entire course
