Pajaro Valley Golf Club
About
Originally designed by Floyd McFarkland, Pajaro Valley Golf Club has large Monterey Pines lining its generous rolling fairways. Elevated tees provide scenic views of the Pajaro Valley below. Opened in 1922 and redesigned in 1962 by Robert Muir Graves, the course features small bentgrass greens and four ponds with water in play on three holes. The fourth is one of the course's most challenging holes, a 420-yard par 4 with triple-tiered green. The course also was once the home of former U.S. Open champion Olin Dutra, who spent the last part of his career teaching here.

Not worth the money
I had heard this course had been renovated a couple years ago and much improved. I'll save you the time and money. The course is just not worth it. Track layout isn't bad but the fairways were brown, thin and had a lot of bare spots. Greens were so so, they rolled fairly smooth but we're very slow. Tee boxes were average at best.
A couple holes have views of the slough which is nice but some of the holes back up against a run down neighborhood. I was a single and got paired up with a threesome. We were virtually the only people on the course (there were 4 others 5 holes ahead) and it still took us over 4 1/2 hours. Very frustrating to say the least.
Overall the course is below average.
New owners are improving this operation
Contrary to anonymous poster(s) who repeatedly hit one star. The course is in better shape than it's been in a long time, the proshop is well stocked, and the customer service is excellent. I think some of the "old element" would like things to remain the same, but the new owners are doing a terrific job improving this golf course and the overall experience.
Incompetent management has led to the steady decline of this “business”. If you want to play a real golf course, there are plenty of meticulously kept courses in Monterey.
This place is a complete joke. Management completely out of touch with reality, no idea how to run a business.
Needs to dry out a bunch
The course is playable, but some holes a very sloppy. I’m sure the crew is doing what they can. Some of the carts are pretty iffy. The staff is really nice.
Not worth playing here
The course was not in good conditions. You couldn't tell the rough from the fairway. Flower/weeds every where. Extremely difficult to find your ball even in the fairway. It was also like playing off a sponge. My hike shoes were soaked and the clubs kept getting sucked to the ground.
Exceptional value and local treasure
Pajaro Valley Golf Club is a favorite course of mine and my golfing buddies. Some of my reasons, in no particular order are: both challenging and easier holes; great, wide fairways; never feels overcrowded and perfect rate of play; beautiful landscape plus ocean views; welcoming staff; THE best practice facilities with grass tee boxes AND drivers permitted AND two putting and chipping greens; good food and friendly bar overlooking the first tee; easy to get to with plenty of parking; and a world-class PGA pro too. There are other good, public, local courses that have many of these attributes but none of them have all of these except Pajaro.
Best Value in the Area
The course is great typically is great shape, the greens roll really well on a regular basis. Pace of play is always pretty great you can get around the course in about 4 hours no problem. The staff is awesome always very friendly and helpful. My go to golf course to play in the Santa Cruz area.
Thought I'd give it another chance
Thought I'd give this place another shot but boy was that a mistake course was in shambles for $90. Talked to the teacher pro at the course and even he had to admit the course was in very rough shape. Greens had daiseys growing in them and were diseased. Tee boxes uneven and bare in alot of areas. Fairways had big weeds and daiseys growing in them and were so wet. My pants were caked in mud after the round. Staff was rude to put it nicely now I know why all the members left and went else where. Dont spend money on this course the new ownership group has ruined this once gem of a course. From what a former member told me the new ownership and GM ran everyone out and were super rude to all of them there paying customers. Just a shame this place has much potential. Other course are way better and shape much cheaper in the Santa Cruz and Monterey are go to them because this isnt worth it all!!!
Flooded
Got too much rain, still has a lot of sitanding water.
Lots of white weeds out there. Needed orange balls!
Fast play, because no one was out there!
They charge too much for that course!
Regular price $70!
beautiful
Good Time
Lots and lots of friendly old guys like me. Going back again sometime.
Rude Service, Poor Conditions, Slow Play
From check in to the marshalls every person was rude and acted like it was their way or the highway. Course was in absolute horrible shape for $82 literally go anywhere but this place. Random thick patches of rough/weeds in the fairways. Super super muddy, no sand in the bunkers. Cant start to explain how over priced this dump is. And literally the entire was the most rude non polite people my friends and I have ever encountered. Best part of this place is the views
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I find the management does an excellent job. (five stars)*****
