Reviews
Great Course
One of the top courses I've ever played. Was raining during tee time and conditions were still good.
Southwood Beauty
I love this course. It is a Fred Couples designed course and an absolute gem. The greens are receptive yet firm/fast enough to keep you on your toes. Difficult but enjoyably playable. Birdies and pars are still possible even if you have the occasional errant shot.
Were a mixed group of snow birds from MN, MI and ONT and we try to visit all the public courses in Greater Tally from our rental homes on Alligator Point. Course in good condition, fair and well maintained traps, fairways and greens in very good winter condition. Very nice staff, from the greeting in the parking lot to a 19th hole adult beverage. We will return.
Beautiful design great course
Only problem was personal. So many bunkers, do little skill. But a lot of fun
I've seen it in better shape.
This was not my first time playing this course and I've seen it in much better conditions. Not that it was bad. The fairways were mostly brown as if they did not overseed them for the winter or if they did, it did not take. Some spots were very soggy and it had not rained in almost a week. Tee boxes and greens were in fairly decent shape and the greens were fast and true. Not sure that it's worth the price point so I'll probably wait before I play it again.
great great course
very tricky to play but super super fun due to all the rolling hills and protected greens. staff was very very friendly, but the course was the star! far better pace of play than Seminole, and course was immaculate! best course in Tallahassee that I have played bar none
Great day
It was fun course greens were super fast but all in all we had fun.
Great course
Good value and the course was in great shape
Ample fairways
My wife and I enjoyed this course and the scenery. The course winds through newly constructed homes but not a distraction. Forward tees are generous and fair. Pace of play was efficient. Staff was friendly and interested that we had a good time.
Tallahassee's Best Public Course
I am writing this review for all out of towners who visit Tallahassee, you clearly cant play a better course in town that's public, the course is always in pristine condition and is good for any golfer with low to high experience having multiple tee sets to choose from, minimal water on course and wide fairways. Greens are fast and tricky so I would recommend hitting the practice green for a good 20-30 minutes to adjust to the speed. Prepare yourself for the 4th hole, 600 yard par 5 that takes every bit of 3 shots to make it on the green(I want to see someone reach this monster in 2), once you make it through this beast the next 3 holes #5-7 offer scoring opportunities.
Masters Weekend round
Slow pace of play but the staff did an excellent job keeping us apprised as to why. They had a wedding party playing and they were really enjoying their round of drinks and golf. It was still an excellent day and the course was the same.
Road Trip Stop
Last year when I planned a road trip to Florida for baseball Spring Training, this was in the top 50 Florida courses - why it dropped out I have idea - to me, this was up there with the World Woods courses I played last year, plus a great bargain - highly recommend
South wood golf club
Course was great shape considering all the rain that happened in the previous 24 hours. Greens held up nicely, excellent layout, an all around terrific course
Solid course
If you're looking to play in Tallahassee and can afford it this is where you should play. Consistently in the best shape in town. There are lots of tee options so you can stretch it out over 7000 yards or make it playable to your level. Greens are tift-eagle(?) and always in decent shape. Fairly forgiving off the tee. Some risk reward holes. Worth playing!
Love this course1
I've played this course several times, and it never disappoints. Although the course is usually busy, the staff keeps things moving very nicely, and I've rarely had to stand and wait at this course.
Great Choice
Very nice course. Lots of memorable holes, and tons of character. We played one set of tees up from the tips, and that 6600 yard set up had every variety of holes you can imagine. Par 4's from 300 to 440, Par fives from 485 to 600, par threes from 150 to 200. It is set in a residential community, but the houses never encroach on play. We got a great deal on golfnow ($40 each with a cart). Greens were tricky, but I hope to play them again soon. Good condition, and very scenic.
