Makings of an Authentic Links Course
I would say this course would be a challenge for a first timer. Fair number of blind tee shots. I played with a kid from the grass lake golf team that knew the course very well. This made it a moderate challenge, but a hole or two in the fescue could cause numbers to rise. The layout was incredible and the closest thing to Ireland 30 minutes from my house. With a bit more attention to tee boxes and some greens this course would be a 5 all day. I definitely want to play again.
GREAT...
Every hole is scenic and beautiful. This course is very well maintained and we just love to play here when we are in town. We are visiting Ann Arbor from our home in Tampa. Calderone is our favorite course in this area.
Links type course, with open fairways.
Played this course with my parents that don't golf much and we all had a great time. If you hit it crooked you will be in the long grass which takes a long time to look for. Which slows the coirse down some, but everyone was playing at a good pace. Take a looksy and hit the next one if you missed the forgiving landing areas. Some holes has blind landing areas and others have awesome views that can distract you. Worth checking out and you will want to go back.
This track is an excellent layout!
I play here a few times a year, I will say we played the Black tee boxes and they were not in good condition at all.
Other than that I love the layout and the greens were medium fast and also in good condition.
For the love of god bring extra balls !!!
What a fantastic coure. Great rolling terrain, great staff, electric carts, intersting holes, also A LOT of long heather grass. I lost 3 balls on first 9. One of my favorites I played all year. Its a lot like A-Ga Ming SUNDANCE course up north, but 1/4 the price.
Room for improvement
This is a fine course that is run by some great people. With that said, there really needs to be a starter and a marshal. The only golf course people I saw was some maintenance crew. Other then the golf shop attendant or the owner in the golf shop there was no governance of the course and pace of play as well. I say this because there was a eight-some in front of us that took three holes to go through and after that there was a five-some to deal with. Simple but effective course oversight needs to be instituted. Other then that, its a great course that will not disappoint your caliber of play.
Good course, not too expensive
Good course for the price I paid. Challenging, but fair. Stay out of the heather if you can...if not, atleast the beer was inexpensive too!
At least 6 holes could play on any tour course.
I was very surprised with the caliber of this course. It was a fantastic layout. Every other hole was great enough to play on any tour course. There are a lot of blind tee shots, so it helps to play with someone who has played it before. 1 or 2 holes seem a bit gimmicky, but not over-the-top.
The course required a lot of precision shots, but often had limited penalties for misses. There was some thick heather in areas, but mostly it was thinner tall grass that made it possible to find your ball.
Carts were very nice, paths were in good shape with some minor exceptions. Tees and fairways a touch long, but in good shape. Greens weren't cut the day I played, but smooth and consistent. Take plenty of extra balls, especially if you are playing alone. Pace of play was consistent with public courses on Saturday afternoon.
I will play here often. It is a terrific challenge. I highly recommend it.
Prepare to be challanged
Great kept up course with a challange. The rough is tough to hit out of but the rough is kept up well. The hills make the ground uneven and makes for difficult shots. There are quite a few bunkers and I seem to hit everyone of them. This course is very challanging for the average player but its has beautiful scenery and is well maintained. The only have two complaints which are minor. One is the scorecard. It doesn't tell you what the par for the hole is. There are some long par 4s and you are not sure if its a par 5 or not. The second complaint is they need signs to better mark the beginning of the holes. But overall this course is great for the price you pay on Golf Now. I'll be out there many times
Fun and Difficult at the same time.
Bunkers need lots of attention. Rocks and desparate need of raking and new sand. Overall, nice track when played from appropriate tee boxes. Found pace of play to be very good. Reasonable rates, regular and senior.
Was stuck behind very slow league play...
The front nine for me was brutal, wait...wait...wait...had no idea that I'd be stuck behind the local geriatric golf league. ( God love em for still being out on the links at their age) Their pace of play was slow to say the least and made getting into a "groove" difficult. That being said, Calderon Golf Club is a must play when you're in the "517".
The course is a very fun track the first 4 holes will make you feel as if you're in the British Isles; rolling open fairways lined with clusters of deep pot bunkers and tall thick grasses. The holes 5-10 are rolling and well bunkered. The back 9 will show off the natural beauty of Mid Michigan being cut through hardwoods.
The greens roll true and are at times quick. The traps are maintained and players respect them for the most part and rake up after themselves.
Multiple tee boxes makes Calderone fun and enjoyable for all levels of players; you can bring the lady in your life and she will have a good time and / or you can come here with your buddies and play from the "way backs" and play a course with teeth.
The staff is very friendly and helpful; the pro shop is well stocked if you need to grab some gear. They have a good selection of "Scooby Snacks" to help keep your energy up during your round. At the turn you're limited to chips and dogs. There is a very nice practice area available to warm up before you start your round.
If you're in the area on business or just passing through, Calderon Golf Club, is worth stopping and giving her a go. If you live in the area as I do you will find yourself playing her over and over.
Nice layout
Love this course it 's nestled in the beautiful Waterloo area. The front nine is more of A link' style, while the back is A little tighter carved into the woods.
Wonderful layout
Holes require shaped shots and good placement. Has elevation changes throughout. Has several holes with risk/reward. Wonderful layout. I highly recommend for the
20 and lower handicap player.
Graet Fall Conditions
Course is in great fall conditions, with little to no leaves on course.
