About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Course in good shape, vary playable
Was flexible with starting time and greens were in good shape as usual. Great course for kids & beginners with being shorter and forgiving.
Hit Your Spots
This course features a very friendly and helpful staff with a laid back attitude. The course was firm, but in good shape despite too many weeds in some spots. The greens rolled true and had many bends and breaks. Challenging, but fair I thought. There are a lot of well placed bumps and lumps making some very tricky lies as one navigates the course. There are many places you can find trouble if you are new to the layout. Water is a factor, but makes some of the holes very scenic.
Getting old
Decent course but you can see the age and lack of attention to maintenance.
Awesome layout
Great course that is well played out. Course conditions were good for this time of year. Greens were excellent. Recommend this course and will play again.
Awesome course
Great everything. Best bang for your buck in Austin.
Course not excessively long but putting tee shot in a certain part of the fairway critical. Greens in great shape the fairways could use a little more grass overall great experience
Great day of golf
Had a friend come in from SA and took him to play golf. The staff was awesome! The fairways and greens were superb. I play kiser and plum creek but, if I want to have a great time without feeling rushed I go to bluebonnet. Booking another round this weekend!
Awesome greens
Love the course and will definitely play there again!
Good round considering the wind.
I didn't know the other two guys I playrd with but they were a lot of fun and very nice. We got off on a great start and finished in 3.5 hours, so we were happy about that and we never were pushed or waiting. Played pretty well in the 25 mph wind. Thanks again guys, hopw you saw the review
So Cold, but Greens are great
Old trusted BB. Greens are in good shape, we all know how the rest of the course is.
Perfect greens
Awesome ...The greens are in great shape.Place is a hidden gem...I live in Lago Vista and the greens there SUCK
Best underrated course in Austin
Extremely friendly staffs (from GM, Pro shop staffs to restaurant staffs and cart girl). They pay close attention to details for a great value course, they even provide cold towel during the summer.. customer's appreciation event with free golf cap and free burgers!!
This is your neighborhood friendly golf course that serve the Austin communities very well. They could have charge more for what they provided, but instead, they are providing the best values in the area.
Course lay out is well designed and the greens are always in excellent shape. The greens are very consistence and roll very well and it can easily compare the same level of greens among the best private golf courses in the area. Good practice areas and best viewed driving range in Austin (looking at the lake). The lay out of the course are interesting as well and give you good opportunity to score well. This is definitely a "feel good" kind of golf course even if you have a bad day. Keep up the great works!!
Bluebonnet Hill greens are great
The greens at Bluebonnet Hill are the best in the area. The layout is challenging but fair even for high handicappers.
Never again
For Mr Lemke and Mr Miller,
This was the worst golf experience I have ever had since playing from the age of 11. The ranger/ Marshall whatever he is referred to as, is the most cantankerous man that I’ve met during any of my visits to Austin. He confronted us three times regarding our pace of play which I found odd since we tee’d off late due to the foursome in front of us hitting a total of 8 balls (that’s 2 each) off the very first tee. The third and finally time the ranger hit us up was on hole 9 and I decided enough was enough. I asked him to leave us alone, and we got the message the first two times. We were playing as fast as we could, and were keeping up with the foursome in front to the best of our ability. After our conversation, he turned around and decided to head to the club house and let the two guys in the pro shop know that he and I had words. This was after I told him that I didn’t want to talk to him anymore, I would discuss it with the guys inside. I talked to one of the younger guys, and told him all we wanted to do was play golf and his reply was the ranger was just doing his job. As he walked away from me, he said he would be watching our time and the next discussion would be with him. True customer service right there. Funny thing...NEVER saw the ranger on the back nine...not once. I realize my feedback is merely one of a hundred, but if I can prevent one golfer from experiencing the same unpleasant atmosphere I did, then my rant was worth it. I am thankful I am from San Antonio and this was a one time round with my son, because I guarantee I will never be back to this course
Bad at Bluebonnet Hills
Bad day! No carts, the course that’s always in pace was wayyyy behind! The driving range was in terrible condition. Something strange has happened to Bluebonnet Hills. Not the same course I’m used to playing. New management perhaps? I will take my money down the road in the future.
Underrated & Underappreciated Value
I've played Bluebonnet Hill half a dozen times in the last six months, and have always had a terrific experience. Pace of play is excellent, and even for winter golf, the greens and tees are well kept. The staff has been exceptionally friendly, and though you can't bring your own drinks, there is a wide selection of drinks and snacks available at reasonable prices. My favorite thing is that if you buy more than one beer, you'll get a cooler full of ice to keep it in.
I am eager to play this course in prime season, in good weather, to see what it's really like - but it's definitely my go-to course in Austin, and by far the best value for the dollar.
We am very sorry to hear about your experience this past weekend. At Bluebonnet we strive to achieve a 4 hour pace of play for all our customer to enjoy their rounds.
We do have marshals on the golf course to help achieve our pace of play. Our marshals are also out on the course to assist any player with issues that may arise. If groups in front of them are playing slow or are a concern, we ask our players to talk to a marshal.
After the discussion with the staff at the turn, we checked the times to make sure your group was not off pace. We sent pro shop staff to drive the back 9 but made sure to respect your wishes and allow you to play golf. If any further issues did arise, we would have come and spoke to you directly.
We achieve our 4 hour pace of play with the help of our customers and we understand that some may want a more relaxed pace.
If you would like to discuss this matter further, please give us at call at 512-272-4228. I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Dylan Lemke
