It really is too bad!
I have lived right here by this course, pretty much my whole life, and have really enjoyed this course and love the layout. That being said, as of right now, this is not a golf course. The greens remind me of 70s shag carpet. There are no fairways. Many tee boxes were dirt. I know that ownership is supposed to drop a lot of money to fix this course. They really need to close it while they do. I had 3 hrs and $40 of complete disbelief and frustration of the condition of this course. Just pass on it, even if the hot deal is for $5 just pass. It’s not worth it. I truly hope that this course gets back to where it was 10 yrs ago someday, because again the layout is awesome. Just not worth the time or money right now.
Poor condition
Unmowed fairways. Looked for balls way to long because of shaggy condition where there was grass. numerous bald spots and chug holes in fairway. Was told improvements will not happen until summer 2025!!!!
Adventure
If you’d like a challenge. This course will give you one. The sand traps that have sand have been destroyed by hogs. The fairways and rough are indistinguishable. It hasn’t been mowed this week best guess. The greens are shaggy dirt. I don’t think they’ve moved a pin this year. That said it was only $35 on a Sunday morning. I doubt any of that goes back into the course. It has a couple of nice views and some cool leaf cutter ants to the right of 8 green.
Disappointing conditions
I absolutely love the layout of this course and the views on multiple holes. Unfortunately, course conditions make it not worth going back. Where there was grass on the fairways, it wasn't mowed. The greens weren't mowed and so we played scored every hole as an automatic 2 putt if the first putt didnt drop. I'll return once the promised improvements by new ownership are in place, but not until then.
Needs promised renovations
New owner to preoccupied with movie studio. Ignoring needs for renovation!
Pluses and minuses
I play this course whenever I’m in area because it is always challenging. I love the course design and the way the holes vary. On the negative side of things, in addition to the usual winter grass, the current condition of the course is sub-optimal. There are many bare sandy spots on most fairways. The bunkers are weedy. The greens are uneven, and the cart paths all need repair. In the plus side, the course is under new ownership and there is clear evidence of improvements.
Worst shape in years
I’ve played this course over a dozen time, first time in probably 6 months and it was as bad I’ve ever seen it. Fairways were either bare or full of weeds and the greens were even worse, full of sand, bumpy and what little grass it had was taller than most fairways should be. Won’t be back until it’s in better shape.
Bad shape
Course is in rough shape. Back 9 was closed. Greens were unplayable. No Sandtraps or water and fairways were spotty.
Course is under repair
A new owner is making repairs and still allowing some golf to be had. The back nine holes were closed and the front nine is in the process of re-seeding the greens. Beautiful weather and good fellowship was had - course is in transition
Terrible
The worst course conditions I've ever seen. Don't waste your money.
This really is a good place to golf
If you are looking for prestine greens and cart girls riding around the course then this isn't for you.
Pine forest has a great staff, good food, and a great tee to green layout. As the staff continue to work the course to get it into the best shape it has ever been ........ they still allow the public to play.
The friendlest Staff you will ever meet
Accomodating to your wishes however they can
Golf at a bargain
I love Pine Forest
Will they ever fix this course? It has potential but disappoints
The “greens” are in just terrible shape. Many are Sandy. Some were wet, poorly drained (I don’t think we’ve had much rain, so it had to be the watering.) lots of fairways are losing grass, turning to sand. I thought that under the change of ownership or management, when the name was changed from Pine Forest to Bastrop River, I thought there was going to be some improvement. But none that’s visible.
It’s a shame
What a waste!
This course has an amazing and very scenic layout.
So much could and should be done to make this a great golf course.
Unfortunately the shape it’s in now is horrible and you can’t just blame this on the brutality of summer.
It’s just lack of care and funds.
Course fairways are the worst I’ve played anywhere and the greens(stretch) are worse.
It’s such a terrible waste of a terrific layout.
Really hope someone will buy this course and restore it to its potential.
Sorry for the bad review but it’s an honest review.
Course needs work
This course has tons of potential and has been great in the past. Greens were just sand and pretty u raven. No point in lining up a putt, just hit toward the hole and cross your fingers. Fairways were a bit too f the same, holes everywhere sandy and even dirt patches cover most of the course. Staff was great and pass of play was good. Just needs some TLC to be a great course again.
Average course conditions? You’re being a mouth piece. They are obviously below poor course conditions.
