Worth the drive
I had to drive about 50 miles to play here. Between hurricanes ,drought and fires the area has had its problems. However conditions were better than expected. Lots of t boxes allow each player to pick a comfortable distance. Picturesque layout. I only had to issues. Many t boxes were very unlevel but most of all.the greens were ridiculously SLOW ! they held a shot but were close to being unputtable.
Poor condition of most fairways
Fairways are bad. I take a fake piece of grass to use. Greens are finally being mowed but grass is sparse.
This Course is Cool!
I understand that most golf courses these days are having issues with keeping up with course maintenance. I play at a course near my house that thinks $55-$85 green fees are ok...but the course is only a 3 star rating in my book. I've been playing this affordable Bastrop course for decades, and yes, it is not in great shape, but if you consider golf challenging then challenge yourself here. It is in the beautiful pines with great vistas and very cool Par threes. Check it out!
#18 fairway and green
Photo tells it all.
Condition of course
They did finally sharpen the greens mower blades!!!
Needs fairway and tee boxes mowed to correct heighth.
Should have gotten a refund
It is so sad how downhill this course has gone. Terrible terrible conditions. The entire course was dirt and weeds. What little patches of grass on the greens hadnt been mowed in days. It was so poor that we quit after 7 holes because it just wasnt enjoyable. Paid $45/pp and I wouldnt pay $15/pp to play it.
Beautiful and Friendly Staff
A little hesitant in booking this but the views and being out in nature was amazing! The course itself was decent and open. Plenty of deers out there and very wooded in between holes. Most fairways are just okay and the green are average. If you're a picky golfer, this may not be for you. This course is definitely playable. The staff was EXCEPTIONALLY friendly as they helped me find my way out of the club house. I'll definitely be back for another round.
It really is too bad!
I have lived right here by this course, pretty much my whole life, and have really enjoyed this course and love the layout. That being said, as of right now, this is not a golf course. The greens remind me of 70s shag carpet. There are no fairways. Many tee boxes were dirt. I know that ownership is supposed to drop a lot of money to fix this course. They really need to close it while they do. I had 3 hrs and $40 of complete disbelief and frustration of the condition of this course. Just pass on it, even if the hot deal is for $5 just pass. It’s not worth it. I truly hope that this course gets back to where it was 10 yrs ago someday, because again the layout is awesome. Just not worth the time or money right now.
Poor condition
Unmowed fairways. Looked for balls way to long because of shaggy condition where there was grass. numerous bald spots and chug holes in fairway. Was told improvements will not happen until summer 2025!!!!
Adventure
If you’d like a challenge. This course will give you one. The sand traps that have sand have been destroyed by hogs. The fairways and rough are indistinguishable. It hasn’t been mowed this week best guess. The greens are shaggy dirt. I don’t think they’ve moved a pin this year. That said it was only $35 on a Sunday morning. I doubt any of that goes back into the course. It has a couple of nice views and some cool leaf cutter ants to the right of 8 green.
Disappointing conditions
I absolutely love the layout of this course and the views on multiple holes. Unfortunately, course conditions make it not worth going back. Where there was grass on the fairways, it wasn't mowed. The greens weren't mowed and so we played scored every hole as an automatic 2 putt if the first putt didnt drop. I'll return once the promised improvements by new ownership are in place, but not until then.
Needs promised renovations
New owner to preoccupied with movie studio. Ignoring needs for renovation!
Pluses and minuses
I play this course whenever I’m in area because it is always challenging. I love the course design and the way the holes vary. On the negative side of things, in addition to the usual winter grass, the current condition of the course is sub-optimal. There are many bare sandy spots on most fairways. The bunkers are weedy. The greens are uneven, and the cart paths all need repair. In the plus side, the course is under new ownership and there is clear evidence of improvements.
Poor, Poor, Poor!
It is sad to see how downhill this course has gone. Absolutely terrible conditions. It was so bad that we left after 7 holes. Greens are 1/2 dirt and the grass on them hasn't been mowed in days. The fairways are dirt and weeds. Don't waste your money.
Worst shape in years
I’ve played this course over a dozen time, first time in probably 6 months and it was as bad I’ve ever seen it. Fairways were either bare or full of weeds and the greens were even worse, full of sand, bumpy and what little grass it had was taller than most fairways should be. Won’t be back until it’s in better shape.
Average course conditions? You’re being a mouth piece. They are obviously below poor course conditions.
