Not in good condition
Played using a GolfNow promo coupon, but wouldn't advise paying stock prices. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the carts are in very good condition. That's where the good part ends! Tee boxes are in serious disrepair. Fairways require a half-track vs. a cart. Bring a plow to escape from the bunkers. The greens were in descent shape, but very small. Not for the serious golfer!
Nice course but wet conditions
Really nice and fun layout. We got a great deal on golf now and was well worth it. The course does not drain well because it was extremely wet. Lots of standing water and mud. Rental clubs were god awful and really made the experience bad. Worst golf clubs I have ever seen in my life. If I had my own clubs it would have been a lot more fun. Course was in good condition and you could tell they really do care about the course.
Locals Course, Bare Bones Golf
Bayou Barriere is a complex that consists of 3 separate nine hole courses that can easily be played in any configuration. Typically, most people will play the Green course and the Gold course together as a front and back nine as they are the longer nines. The Purple nine has a quirkiness to it as it's charm, and it's layout is probably a bit more interesting than the other two nines as the par 4's are not all just straight line holes. The nine begins with an oddity - power lines cross the fairway of the first hole. They are absolutely in play too. I don't recall the ruling the course gives for hitting them; I believe it's a canceled shot. Depending on tees you are playing from, or even on a particular day's tee placements, you may hit your tee shot from atop a levee that protects the course from the busy Intracoastal Waterway. That would occur on the par 3's, the second and 4th holes. The course is flat and relatively nondescript. Aside from the canal and the power wires, there isn't anything interesting to speak of about the course. It's an inexpensive play where mostly locals gather. It's a bit outside of the city of New Orleans, but not so far as to be prohibitive - the TPC of Louisiana is farther outside the city. But because it's just a bare bones course, you wouldn't ever send anyone there to play a round of golf. It's a bit hardscrabble at times. There isn't any irrigation, so fairways are watered by rain. As such in dry times they dry out a lot and can burn. There are numerous small dugout ditches for drainage that dot the course. You'll find areas of burnt out grass, and the grasses aren't consistent - neither are the bunkers. The greens are typical push-up greens but they aren't really up to USGA standard. The clubhouse was redone several years ago and is very nice now, with decent space for post round drinks and hosting post tournament activities. My overall take is simple - this facility is not one I play often, not one I would go out of my way for and not one I'd recommend to anyone who would ever ask looking for a round of golf. But the people are nice, the price is good and the course isn't difficult, so I occasionally find myself there and usually when I do go, I have an OK time, but I'm reminded why I don't play there very often.
Uneven fairways
Fairways were so uneven (bumpy) that you couldn't drive a golf cart down them without severe bouncing. The area has had lots of rain and mowing was a problem. Not a great value.
this course needs senior tees and better grass for your footing on tee boxes
i have played this course many times in the past when it was in bette shape.the bunkers have river sand dirt in them whichcan cake to a hard crust when wet.
the course is flat and has a lot of moguls in it
course was wet in spots so about 7 of the holes were cart path only
Improved Bayou Bariere
They have 3 9 hole courses. We actually got on the Gold course while playing the Green course. Gold and Green are very close together. Follow the signs and you won't have a problem. We didn't :). Overall the course was much improved from the last time I played (10 yrs).. Staff very nice and the have new gas powered carts. Very good overall experience...
Good deal
Course is kept up very well, despite some poor reviews. Greens are very fast. Nice place to play. Will return
nice for the price
good for a last minute round, friendly staff, I played Green and Purple this time.
You get what you pay for.
I've played Bayou Barrier several times and have always booked a good deal on Golf now. The course is what you would expect when paying $20 or less for 18 holes. Most of the tee boxes are terrible and the fairways are bumpy with little grass. The greens are slow but fair and probably the best attribute of the course. I like to play here with friends that don't play much golf but this is not a place for serious golfers.
Horrible
Don't waste your time or money. Fairways horrible. Greens slow. Staff unfriendly.
not that good
fairways were bumpy and the grass was very long. the greens were just so so.
not that good
fairways were bumpy and the grass looked like it had not been cut in a week. greens were just so so
Great Value course
Very good course with a friendly staff, course layout is great for beginners. I like the 3, 9 hole courses creates a good variety,
decent course
The course was alright, not fantastic, but decent value for a cheaper course
Nice course, excellent staff
This was my second attempt at a round by myself, and only my 3rd round ever. I felt like the staff genuinely cared about my round...
That day the course was hosting a tournament, so I was unable to play the Purple course near the river. I will definitely have to come back, and I would recommend this course to everyone.
Decent
Decent course, wouldn't play there for their normal rates, but with the discounted one online was a good value
Good Times
This was an average course but it was a blast. I went to play by myself but ended up meeting several great guys and making a day of it. The staff was great. I ended up staying after my round and playing in a scramble that they hold on Wednesday nights. I would highly suggest to anyone that likes to have fun regardless of level, to come join this event. I know I'll go back as often as i can.
Hit it Straight!
This was a good course for an average golfer. You must stay in the fairways to have a chance at par. The rough needed mowing, and there are plenty of trees to block an errant shot. Overall the course was fair though the greens could use some work.
Just to let anyone know if it happens to come up - it probably won't because it's no longer on the map or the list - but this course is CLOSED, as of the beginning of 2017. Sorry to see it go.
