Wonderful Experience
Bayou Barrier was a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in the Pro Shop door. We were greeted with enthusiasm and offered help for anything we needed. The staff there seemed to be interested in
our total enjoyment of our round. I would recommend
it because the entire experience was super.
Good Course for Beginners
Excellent value and very friendly staff. I like the option of having 27 holes instead of 18. Not a busy course in the afternoon. No waiting around.
average
Very friendly staff, course was in ok conditon, cousre needs alittle attention.
First timer at this course...
We were greeted by staff who were very helpful. Especially the Marshall who assisted us and showed us where to go and gave his personal recommendations regarding the layout of the course. I'm from Beaumont Texas and he was a resident of Beaumont many years ago. Course fairways and greens were fair but for the price you can't beat it. Next time I'm in NOLA I will play here again.
Fair condition course
The course was in fair condition, about what I would expect of a muni on Feb 28. Greens were rough but playable. Price was good. They required a $5 deposit for the cart key. I had not seen that before. Almost forgot to get my deposit when I returned the cart.
Playets Beware
Course conditions poor. I don't think that any effort is made to the fairways to allow fair conditions to hit off of. Golf ettiquet is non existent and thus pace of play is at a snales pace.
Great Greens
The greens were fast and true. People were fantastic, food above average. Only problem the fairways need some grass. I will play there again.
La.Golf Trip
Maybe it was just this time of the year but, the fairways were in tough shape, greens inconsistent with respect to condition. Both are in need of attention.
For anyone over a 10 handicapp it's really good value. 27 holes.
To be able to be home by noon at a very good price is very important to me.
October round
We played on a beautiful day after a heavy rainstorm the night before. We had some trouble finding the course and went through the tunnel and over the bridge twice. Maybe better signage? The staff was extremely friendly and efficient. The value for the money was great! We would definitely consider playing there again.
Good for the price
Greens in good shape. Some fairways wet some rock hard. Tee boxes not in good shape.
Fair to average
Played this course today for the first time in several years. Wanted to remind myself why I'd stopped playing it, and see if it had improved. It is still what it was - a well worn, tight older layout. 27 holes are shoehorned into an area that would fit one fantastic 18 hole course. What works - for all the tightness of the course and hundreds of trees, it's not unfair and it's as interesting as you could make it given the space. The land could use some rolling to even it out a bit - the ground is bumpy. The greens today were hairy, and it hasn't rained here in some time so there was no reason for that. Every hole on the Green 9 is a straight shot. There are two holes with "doglegs" on the Gold 9 and a few on the Purple 9. While short, the Purple 9 is the most interesting. Oddity - power lines run across the course, affecting the first tee shot on each 9. Oddity #2 - internal OB. Hate it anywhere. I understand the why - the par 5 4th hole on the Gold 9 is a dogleg right. You need to hit about 225-250 straight off the back tee to get to where you can see the fairway for the second shot. Used to be that many folks would hit a shot to the right (especially from the white tees) and play it through the 3rd hole's fairway. That was very dangerous because they'd be hitting right at anyone coming up 3. It's against the spirit of what the hole is also. So they made the 4th hole OB if you play towards the 3rd green and fairway. Trees fairly well obscure that shot nowadays so it's hardly necessary. I get it, I just don't like it... I won't dog the course - it's only $35 on the weekday, and you get $5 of that back as a key deposit. It's bare bones golf, but it's enough challenge to keep the ball straight and get to the right levels/depths on the greens. You get what you pay for, and I mean that in a good way. Also good is the renovated clubhouse. It's very similar to the old clubhouse layout, which was good, but it's upgraded. And for a small time operation, they sell decent items at good prices in the Pro Shop.
Good layout
Enjoyable round, windy conditions, and a free air show by the Naval Air Station nearby. Those are usually the conditions at Bayou Barriere, and it was like that on this day, too. The people in the shop, and others on the course, all quite nice. Greens a little bumpy, but I miss putts on smooth greens too. Not too many others out there, felt like "private!"
Nice course
Great value for the money. Greens need a little maintenance but the course is challenging enough overall.
Where do I begin.....
Let's start in the proshop. While I love my Louisiana folks, this course was my worst of the year. I want rag on this course because suspect they may be going through a rebuilding phase. I played this course as a suggestion from a co-worker. Note to self, don't take suggestions from co-workers if you have not played with them. The layout is cramped as there are three 9's next to each other. Everyone tees off the middle nine and then chooses which nine to play after that. I think it is Green, Gold and Purple courses. Nevertheless, when I played on the 9th of Dec' 2012, the fairways were like pavement, the greens were not in good shape and the overall condition of the course was not appealling at all. After about 5-6 holes, we really wanted to quit, but we were committed at that point, so it was what it was. While it's just my oppinion, I think the course should shut down for about 2-3 months and really get things together. It should dedicate a 18 with an additional 9 rather than just scatter. It made things hectic when we didn't see where to go. Positives: The cart girl was around a lot. Although I thought the prices were a bit high. A bottle of cola was approaching $3. Also! I think it was the green course #whatever the middle nine is#....that #9 hole was good! The fairway was nice as was the green! So I did have at least one truely positive thing to say!
Hit em' str8
THE COURSE IS IN DECENT SHAPE,BUT NEEDED SOME WORK MAINLY ON THE GREENS.
MY SON AND I HAD A NICE TIME PLAYING THE PURPLE AND THE GREEN COURSE. BOTH COURSES WERE FUN TO PLAY EXCEPT A FEW OF THE GREENS NEEDED SEEDING TO GIVE THEM A BIT MORE ROLL.THE ONLY THING THAT I DIDN'T QUITE UNDERSTAND WAS A $5 KEY DEPOSIT WHICH YO ARE SUPPOSE TO GET BACK AT THE END OF YOUR ROUND.
Some very interesting holes
The course was nice. Some holes were quite challenging although overall it was fairly easy. The greens were nicely kept. I found the fairways very bumpy which with my bad back wasn't the greatest but that would't be a problem for most people. I probably won't play it again but that has a lot to do with the bumpy fairways.Other than that I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
