great
This is a resort course hidden away near a lake in LA. This place has hotel, restaurants, tennis and golf plus all water activities. The course is a very good layout with great views and wildlife everywhere. The only thing wrong is the condition is average muni. The traps do have sand, and they were groomed, something we didn't see at other courses after recent storms. I would definitely play here again, at $70 weekends still worth it.
Mind Blowing
"Torrey Pines of the Bayou" Breath taking views but hard as heck golf shots. Better bring a range finder and zero in on yardages. If you have a swooping hook or slice- bring 3 dozen balls. Food was fantastic. The course favors the better golfer and straight ball hitter.
What a disappointment
Have wanted to play Cypress Bend for quite some time now since I got to LA at least twice a month. I have played most of the courses on the Audubon Gold Trail and enjoyed them all. I can not say that for Cypress Bend. If it had not bee for the great deal I got on Golf Now, I would have been thoroughly disappointed. The layout is not bad and does have some nice views. It is a short course and definitely requires ball placement on several holes. A lot of reviews talk about elevation changes and I am not sure what they are talking about. There are a few holes that have rises and drops but this is not a big elevation change, especially if you have played in the hill country. Course was in horrible shape. Fairways need water and had a lot of bare spots and definitely needed to be groomed. Greens are over grown with different types of grass and greens roll SLOW. They had not range balls available and I had a late morning tee time. They said it was due to a tournament on the Sunday and I could not figure out why that would cause them to not have range balls until I finished my round and saw a guy picking up balls with a shag bag on the range. Either they need a new staff to get the course in shape or an influx of money to improve the course. Do not play here for the posted rate, it is not worth it. If you can find a deal under $20 or are a big fan of run down municipal courses then you will have a good time.
Unique challenge
Recently went on a family vacation and stayed in nearby lake house. Played 5 1/2 rounds in my 3 day stay. Clubhouse/ Pro shop pretty standard; nothing super fancy but not poor quality either. All staff was very friendly. Driving range is located on top of a large hill so determining distances pre round can be tricky. The course, like the range, is extremely hilly with many tee shots being played down 50-100 feet below tee box. The toughest aspect of the course is the doglegs, most of which play a full 90 degrees in either direction. I'm a 6 handicap with driving average around 280-300, and the 6700 yards from the tips seemed longer given that my driver would run out of room on many of said holes. With that being said, you must play to specific spots on the course and not try to overpower it if you want to score well. The scenery that accompanies about 6 or 7 holes near the lake are absolutely awesome. Now, the bad. For my first round, the greens hadn't been cut and they played awfully slow. Many greens had small dirt patches in spots. but pins were mostly placed on the nicer area on the green. The greens did play pretty receptive, with short/mid irons and wedges checking with some spin. There are also some bare spots on the fairways consisting of red clay and rocks. Greens were cut for the weekend and rolled significantly better. Most of the bunkers lacked proper amount of sand, playing pretty firm. The rough in certain areas was a bit too long and penalizing for my liking, given the fact that a ball in play on the tricky blind doglegs shouldn't go missing a few feet off the fairway. Overall, the course is a beautiful, tough test and would definitely recommend it if you are in the area.
Great layout
This is the 3rd time to play this course over a 6 year period, and it's in the best condition now. This conditions are wet, cart path only. Fairways are high due to rain, greens a bit inconsistent, and as the other times I have played this course the bunkers are deplorable.
Poor Greens, fairways, traps, tees
Most greens present with bare spots of baked dirt, and weed growth. Putting on them is like the Plinko game. Cups arent moved. Lots of wear around them. Most traps lack sand with packed dirt and mud instead. Weeds throughout fairways giving poor lies penalizing vs rewarding. Many tees same situation. Bare dirt spots & weed growth. Also, you get about 15 range balls. Course is Overpriced for these conditions. Poor care of course over all. Im a 3-4 handicap. Played with other good golfers. This is our consensus after our round.
Cypress Bend
I have always enjoyed the layout. When you can talk to guys fishing on the lake while your waiting to hit you approach to the green, that's just cool. Numerous holes run along the lake or go over the lake to the greens. The pro said the greens were not all the way in. The dog legs on #'s 9 and 10 are fun and difficult to master. Watch out for the friendly alligator in the pond between 1 and 9. Great track, fun to play. Bring plenty of balls.
This course has great potential..
It's a beatiful course but u can just tell like so many other golf courses it just doesn't have the resources to keep it up to the standards to make it a great golf course and it is a shame to play a course that has so much potential. Staff was very nice but little to no product in the pro shop. All the grass was very healthy but needs a lot of chemical for weed control. Greens were very slow.
Picturesque
Great layout and can't wait to play it again. Starting to show its age and could use a face lift but still ranks high on my list of fun places to golf.
As Expected
Course in great shape (rainfall is up). Greens were slow but that is typical at this time. Many courses will cut too short at this time and damage or loose greens when coming out of the grass transition period.
Greens seem to be getting better
The weather was great, but typical Louisiana...hot and humid. Wildlife was abundant and scenery was great. Fairways were excellant but still make you pay for wayward shots. The greens were slow but they rolled true. I felt as though they needed to be clipped but at least the fungas looking spots seemed to be growing in from eariler this year. Looked like the bunkers had been worked on but still need some work. I love this course but find it quite challenging.
Great course
Typical LA weather. Humidity to spare but we had a great round.
average to poor greens
excellent staff and food, fairways were great, greens were hard and dry there were some that there was no grass in places.
Greens were terrible!
Very scenic and beautiful. Fairways are in good shape but the greens are terrible. It being an Audubon Trail course I thought it would be well maintained like all the others, but I was dead wrong. Definitely not worth the money. I could make a shorter drive and play a way nicer course. For a course that charges $70 on weekends and doesn't even have decent yardage markers on the course is strange.
My favorite course in Louisiana
Ok, I L-O-V-E, love this course. Beautiful setting on Toledo Bend reservoir, incredible course, wonderful staff, great food, and on a weekday afternoon, absolutely empty. Some quirky holes, par fives where you have to hit irons off the tee, many blind shots, and very hilly for such a flat state. This course is always maintained although I did notice a few diseased spots on some of the greens. Also they have been watering heavily on the approaches so there was no rolling the ball onto the greens. Bring your camera when you play this course, as there are many "Kodak Moments"!! Two holes play over an inlet in the lake, and the water is never too far away. Haven't stayed in the hotel yet, but am looking forward to it someday. If you are anywhere near Toledo Bend, please avail yourself of this magnificent course!!
acceptable condition, some trick holes
The greens were in reasonable shape, with some bare patches. The greens are not particularly challenging. There are several holes which are not well laid out, with all shots being blind, and if you do not know the course you are guessing on your shot.
Great layout, awesome views.
For the money they charge, the greens are horrible. The greens are in better shape than the last couple of years, but at the regular price of around $70.00 on weekends and holidays, you would think the greens would be in great shape.
Wooden Course
If you like nature, this is the course for you! Very wooden and fairways have trouble, but enjoyable to play.
This course is a beautiful layout with wonderful views from the lake.
The course is going through some maintenance in bunkers all over the course which will improve play and the looks. For this time of the year the fairways were in great shape,I hit a very decent drive that went almost 300 yards with roll after rain from the previous night. The greens for this time of the year stil putt well, and will hold a well hit ball.
