The Oaks Golf Club
About
With fairways that wind through groves of hardwoods and pines, around ponds and alongside acres of wetlands, the Oaks Golf Club provides one of the most unforgettable golfing experiences on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The striking par-72 layout is highlighted by strategic bunkering, dramatic green complexes and a meandering routing and creates a serene and tranquil golf experience. Designed by Dr. Gil Morgan, the 18-hole public golf course that opened in 1998 measures 6,885 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 131 and a 72.5 USGA rating.
Throughout its history, the Oaks has received numerous awards and accolades, including being honored by Golf Digest as one of the Top Ten Courses in Mississippi, voted as the Best Course on the Coast by readers of Coast Magazine and selected as the 2003 "Golf Course of the Year for the Mississippi Gulf Coast " by the National Golf Course Owners Association.
The Oaks Golf Club has challenged some of the top players in the country as a former host of Nike Tour/Buy.com events (now the PGA Tour's Nationwide Series) in 1999 and 2000 and having played host to the first stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School in 2003.

Still one of the Gulf Coast's finest
The Gulf Coast has many options for quality golf. For 20 years now, the Oaks has been one of the Mississippi Coast's top golf destinations. It continues to be today.
Played yesterday for the first time in about a year, and the course was as good as I remember it. The course eases you in with 2 relatively mild par 4's before hammering you with a longer 4, followed by a short 4 with a green you can't see from the tee. From there it's game on. There are nice elevation changes, nothing major, but enough to make flat-landers work a bit harder on shots. The shot values are great, and the course is set up so everyone from low to high handiappers can have a great time. The course was in great shape and most of the greens were perfect. If there was one thing about this course that has changed over the years that is not a positive, it's the homes going up all around it. It's beautiful land and I've played this course since it opened up, pretty much at least once a year. Originally there were very few homes around the course, now there are homes on many holes. They don't really take away from the course, but whenever you find a course mostly secluded in the woods and you have that feeling of being surrounded completely by nature, it's special.
The course isn't long and doesn't really play long. There are several greens with a couple of tiers to adds to your fun, and some greens perched above fairway height , as well as a couple below it. While the par 3's take the spotlight on this course (as well as the gorgeous par 5 sixth hole), the short par 4's might be the most fun on the course. Holes 1,4, 13, and 14 are short-ish par 4's (13 can be long from the back tees, but from the front tees you can gamble a little and get inside 100 yards off the tee). On these holes you can lay back or hit the big stick and still have varying wedge shots in. It all makes for a fun course, with plenty of scoring opportunities, but also plenty of challenges.
Worth the money and travel time
Very challenging course very fun to play would play it again in a heartbeat good value for your money too
I like the course layout. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Greens and fairways were in pretty good shape. Don’t be long on any green!
Most of the tee boxes left a lot to be desired. They are really in need of some help.
Snowbird
First time playing this course. Got there hour before my tee time. No carts? I kept checking back...no carts. 5 minutes before my tee time no carts...they ended up giving me one as e golfers got out. Drove to the 1st tee...my group had left. Luckily there was a threescore on the tee. Course was over booked with 7 min tee times....back ups started on hole #4 and continued for the rest of the round...5 1/2hrs.
No worth the $68 Golfnow charged.
Go to Windance....beautifully maintained and priced at $46 its a no brainer!
Fun Course to play.
Play here 1-2 times per year. Tee boxes were in rough shape. Fairways were thin but it is springtime here. Greens were good and rolled true. Pace of play was slow for a Tuesday. People working there are great. From checkin to starter to marshalls on course, all were great to talk to.
Oceans city
Selected this course from other reviewers and it was very busy day there with a charity tournament prior to my tee time. Tee boxes from the green tees were pretty chewed up but overall it was a fun course
Good Course
Overall, it was a fun day and the course was nice. The front 9 holes are much better than the back 9 in regards to condition and layout. Greens were excellent.
My only real issue was the pace of play was very very slow
Would I play here again? Absolutely, but the pace needs to speed up
Excellent
Gorgeous layout, best greens I’ve played on the gulf coast.
Fun course
Pace of play slow at times but a fun course to play amenities are very good
Soggy
Really enjoyed the day at The Oaks but would like to go back when not soaked (from rain day before) and path only. Nice course and great staff.
The Oaks Delivered
First time playing The Oaks. I live 1.5 hours East and met a friend from NOLA to play near the middle. Staff was friendly and professional. Course was in good shape even given the heavy rains the day before. Greens rolled really nicely. Layout was challenging but not crazy difficult. Will definitely come back and recommend The Oaks to friends.
Course was very wet
Excellent club house and employees. Friendly, cordial and ready to help with tee times and course direction. Excellent driving range and several practice putting greens. Excellent marshaling and and first tee coordination. The course was very wet conditions, so the scoring was mostly bogey golf. Greens were challenging with the first nine greens were rather fast on the stimp level while the back nine were much slower. Course spread out from green to tee especially on the back nine but that was not concerning. Fun round !! Will try again when things dry out but we are traveling so won’t be able to play too much .
Sunday Golf
We enjoyed playing The Oaks however we were paired with 2 very inexperienced golfer who caused us to back up play. I wish more courses monitored play and allowed more twosomes. Playing with players who took 25 minutes to complete a hole makes the day just bad. The course was beautiful though. Would like to play again by ourselves.
Great Value on GolfNow
One of the better maintained courses on the coast, definitely worth it at twilight golf hours
Fantastic course - horrid service
The course was in great shape. Greens were fantastic! The management of the course is awful. A 10 year old could operate it more efficiently. They don’t have enough carts - we waited 15 minutes after our tee time to get a cart. The beverage cart and Marshalls have ZERO golf etiquette. They drove up on us several times while we were teeing off. They have not been hit by a ball yet, but guessing that is the only thing that will change their actions. Just terrible operations - look for other options in the area. It is a shame because the course layout and conditions were great.
Pretty Layout
I’m a 14 handicap and the course was a nice challenge. Not too easy or too hard. Very pretty holes with a variety of shots needed.
