Not Worth the Price

The course is not maintained. It's a shame this course has become so unplayable. They should be ashamed for still advertising it as one of the premier courses in the LA area.

The course is DEAD!!!

This course is completely dead and should not be listed as a course you can play. The course is completely unplayable. They told me that the grass was dry and dying but there was not any grass at all. The fairways are all hard dirt. The bunkers are completely empty and just hard dirt. We were told that the greens were good, however, the greens were dying with holes and sometime just hard dirt as well. On the 18th hole, I played two balls and my wife play a single ball. With our second shot, we hit three different clubs (me 9-7iron, her 5h), each of which went about 250+ yards over the hill and down to a drain that is approximately 20 yards past the green and 60 or so yards to the right of it. All three balls were 12 inches apart at this drain. It was like hitting your ball down the street. Oh, and this is a mountain course so you can imagine the roll or reverse rolls you will get without any grass to stop the ball. Not to mention that the greens are elevated so hitting off of the hard dirt to an elevated green is very hard to do from less that 30 yards out. The only productive thing that you can do on this course is practice your blind tee shots. The layout seems to be pretty cool and visually challenging if the course was still living.

The course is challenging but bad maintenance, no services

Tee box area is not good-No clear mark, No yardage marking, but has one colored stone. Fair way condition is even worse-muddy,stone or bare ground. No direction sign- next hole direction is confusing at many holes, there were no distance marking at any places for the hole. No proper score card but provide copied paper . No Water springs/ No way to get beverages/ food in the hot day at the desert -reception told not to take any beverages in the course. they had only one water springs in 18 holes whole course.

Bait and Switch

My playing partner called the course to ask about the conditions of the SHADOW course BEFORE I booked the round. He was told that the course was in fantastic condition and the greens had been punched 6 weeks ago. Two days later we show up and the guy at the pro shop tells us that the grass on the fairways of the Shadow course are dormant. I look at the first hole and there is nothing but brown, no green anywhere on the fairway. He said the greens were in great condition but they haven't watered the fairways in a long time. He tried to do a bait and switch and have us pay more to play the SKY course. What a joke.

Stay Away from Lost Canyons!

I have played both LC courses over the years and chaired fund raising tournaments there. I was shocked when I drove up to see the Shadow Course fairways to be completely brown. When I walked into the pro shop, it was virtually empty. On check in, I discovered that the Shadow Course had been sold and they are no longer watering it. They also told us that as of December 31, they would be shutting the Sky Course and club house down for a complete renovation which could take 1 to 2 years. The Sky Course was not in much better condition (GUR on the greens). Neither course is worth the money.

Don't Play

The Shadow Course has been abandoned (except the greens) so it is just dirt. When you get to the course they will tell you that you can still play the course or pay the additional price to play Sky Course. The Sky Course is also in disrepair and certainly not worth the price tag.

Amazing course that has been let go

My review is for Shadow Course only, as I'm certain the other course is better maintained.

Check-in was fine, but not very informative even after I said it was my first time there. Good thing I read online reviews first. The kitchen does not open until 7 am, so eat before you arrive if you're first off the tee. The range is grass, which is nice compared to most places in Los Angeles. The clubhouse was nice with lockers. The facilities were not crowded at all. I don't know how they stay in business.

This is one of the most picturesque desert courses I've ever played. Got an amazing price online, booked, then looked at course reviews; which are terrible for a good reason. Essentially, this is a wonderful design and a super challenging course. However, they admit they stopped watering the fairways three months ago (I would say at least that long ago) because "water is too expensive." The tees and greens were okay, not great. The fairways are so dry and tough, you need to tee up all of your fairway shots. The design was so interesting it really didn't bother me for the first 10 holes. After that, it was upsetting. By the time I finished the round, I needed a shower because I was covered in dust from the dead fairways.

Also, the course is laid out so there is no turn near a club house or any facilities at all. Even worse, they said they had a drink person starting at 8 am, but never saw that person either. Thank goodness I took several bottles of water, because it was so dry and dusty that I drank four bottles of water and it was only 80 degrees.

Might try the other course, I just hope a housing developer comes in and buys the course to build houses around it. I'll be the first buyer if that course is restored.

Course is unplayable

Very dissapionted as we had to the Sky course and pay more money, Golfnow should know the condition of the course and advise golfers so they are aware of the conditions. The sky course is not so good either, fairways rough, sand in bunkers rock hard, greens ok.

I should get a refund

We played only four holes and stopped playing because of the course condition. On the fourth hole we found the caretaker and found out that course is closing indefinite and it was most terrible course that I played and should not be advertised. Course is not playable. I am writing a letter to Pete Dye to inform that one of the course he designed is in that condition. After fourth hole I went to club house and talked with the manager and they did not care.
There should be some type of compensation for this.

Course is dead!!

They have sold this course to build houses. They are letting it die. Fairways are very hard and almost impossible to hit good shots off of. Book a tee time for another course and don't waste your time with this one.

Hardly a golf course anymore

This was a challenging course when it had grass in the fairways.
Be aware that only the greens and tees are being watered. The fairways are dead not dormant and pretty tough to play from. The worse thing is that on this hilly course your ball will routinely roll off the course, sometimes back to you.
Kind of sad, won't be coming back.
At a deep discount of $20 it is is hard to complain, but this really only appeals to the pocketbook.

No longer maintained- not worth more than 20 dollars

It's sad to see this course in this shape. I played here several years back and it was a challenging course in great condition. Everything except the greens are no longer kept up. Bunkers are rock hard, fairways are dust. It's like playing in an open desert with pins. I wouldn't play the course if it were free. They need to close it down and stop sending out groups.

Horrible

Thought this might be a nice new course to play. In spite of the wind in the canyon, which really wasn't that much of an effect. The tees were unkempt, the fairway was mostly dirt with hard dirt sand traps and terrible greens. Just walking to the tee was like a goat trail and the unkempt course just made everything so enjoyable and instead of a great day of golf it was a workout in a bad way. Put water on the course and sand in the traps and it would be a lovely course with very challenging holes.

Do not play this course.

Do not play this course. Even for under twenty dollars it is not worth it. The entire course is either dirt or scrub grass. They admit they are "letting it go" because they are going to start building houses on it next year.

Absolutly terrible experience, do not support this course!

Worst golfing experience ever. There are two courses at this facility shadow course and sky course. Upon arriving for Our tee time our foursome was informed the shadow course that we were to play is in disrepair the fairways were completely nonexistent burnt out grass and dirt we were told that the greens were in good shape and the course is playable but if we wanted to upgrade to the sky course we would need to pay the difference which was $40 to play the sky course. We had booked the shadow course for $30 tee time and were excited about getting a good deal very disappointed to find out the course was in bad shape and that the only way to play the sky course was to be upgraded $40 more dollars than we had originally booked for so we opted to play the shadow course which we had originally booked but halfway through the first hole we realize the issues at the course were much more serious than the manager at the desk had informed us the bunkers had weeds growing in them the fairways were nonexistent just dirt and the greens were completely horrible shape we were told that the course is playable but there is no way they should've sent anybody out on the course. During our round we only saw one other twosome on the course and this was a Sunday afternoon it was then obvious to us why nobody was playing. This course was completely abandoned. They had not cut new holes in week and they were in terrible shape, they greens had huge dirt patches in the middle, the bunkers were so dried out and hard we opted to take our ball and place it outside the bunker as it was like hitting out of a concrete bunker. In general we felt misled as to the playability of the course and felt there's no way GolfNow should be not be supporting booking teetimes at this course until serious changes are made. Paid $10 for a bucket of range balls and half of them were cracked and damaged or completely bald with no dimples. Completely disappointed do not go to this course!!!

The shadow course is being used as a bait and switch scam.

The shadow course fairways are not being watered and are nothing but dirt and straw. The moment I walked up to the desk I was told this and given the "opportunity" to play the sky course for an additional $30. It was too late in the day to go elsewhere. The course is not walkable due to large elevation changes and distances between tee boxes. The greens were somewhat patchy in places but played very true, possibly due to the lack of play on them. It looks like an interesting course to play if there were grass to slow the ball down on the hilly course but to illustrate I laid up with an 8 iron from 300 yards on the last hole and was green high. Don't do it.

Don't waste your time

The Lost Canyon "Shadow Course" is like finding a ghost town. You can tell it was a golf course, but only the greens are green. The rest of the course has been abandoned by the owners. Nothing is being maintained except the greens. The rest of the course looks like it's covered in burlap. Even at $17 dollars with a cart, it is not worth it. This time of year the wind is howling through the whole course. I think the owners have plans to build houses there in the near future. I hope they hurry that plan up. Try their "Sky" course instead.

Very poor maintenance.

Lost Canyons or Golf Now should warn players that there is absolutely no maintenance of the fairway. Absolutely no watering on the fairways. No maintenance of the sand traps. Minimal watering on the greens only.
