Great price, Friendly staff and a Great challenge
Although California is in a drought the staff at Lost Canyons are doing a great job on keep the course in good shape. I went out as a single and caught up to a few foursomes where without delay they had let me play through sometimes that's a problem. As far as the course it is definitely challenging yet a risk/reward type of course. Keep it in the fairways and you will score good. Greens are are somewhat fast so be aware. Goodluck fellow golfers!!!!
Sad decline
It's always sad when you see a course go down.
I had been here several times over the years. I think I played the Sky course once but after I got into it, it didn't seem that familiar. Over a decade ago when I was much younger and the complex was newer and in great shape, I considered being one of the caddies that worked there. Those times are Long Gone.
I know they had serious financial troubles. Fees higher than they should have been, the economy being bad and the slow decline of golfers and people with the extra income for golf. I tried to play out there back in the early summer because I thought I'd found a great deal for the Shadow course. When I got there I saw the course was a baron wasteland of of dead grass and hardpan and they told me that was the last day it was open because they were consolidating all their resources for the Sky course. I laughed and almost took it as a slap in the face that they were trying to make me pay to play that course. I went somewhere else.
Fast forward to this holiday weekend, months later with high hopes the Sky course looked better than the last time I was here. It was. It was in better shape than it had looked but in no way optimum. There were places all over the course that were water logged and muddy. The fairway was was very hard and patchy like it was dormant yet infected. Though it did play pretty true and would give some help with roll to the shorter hitter.
If you haven't played this course and you're a novice player. This isn't the course for you. Very unforgiving. My buddy that played with me who doesn't get out that much probably lost 20+ balls. The greens are very undulating and were soggy in places. Not many bail out spots. Lots of up and down hill making club selection tricky and the uphill very tough for shorter hitters.
I would love for this course to bounce back but they Need to lower the prices to give better value and pack tee times. This course at the way it looks and plays should be about $50-55 max to make people feel they didn't get robbed. The score cards were Printed on Paper which was embarrassing. The range, though you hit off decent grass, was a sad dirt wasteland. The standing facilities otherwise have been and are still great aside from the tvs that are clearly the same tvs that were put in there when the place was built.
There's so much potential here. If they manage funds properly. Give people value by lowering the price. Have a decent event planner to utilize their facility to its full potential and update a few things, it could possibly get back to a sought after $80-90 course. But it's just not there.
better I thought
Good better than I thought but fairway conditions
not good
Lost canyon sly
I liked the layout. Each hole is different and the views are great. The fairways are tight and most holes are doglegs. If you don't hit straight bring plenty of balls. I would not recommend this place for amatures or infrequent golfers. The fairways have many bald spots and the greens could be softer. No cart girl or water so keep that in mind. The wind kicks up so some par 5s play very long. Elevated greens so a lot of hole play their distance and then some. I like this place very much and if we get some rain the fairways should pop.
totally worth the drive!
Beautiful challenging humbling exciting reminds you golf can be a game bc it's so tough and not typical. Course was in great condition considering you can tell they are watching watering bc of the drought.
Best course I have ever playrd
My son and I played and the course was in amazing condition. The views were awesome.
Will play again
One of the best greens I have ever played.. Nice course, the fairways could use a little help and need yardage markers in the fairways.
Overall, good course for the money when the wind is not up
Lost Canyons
Hard course. Narrow fairways there isn't a lot of room for error. I had to tee off with 3 or 4 iron on most to hit the fairway. The greens are in bad shape mostly because people don't repair their ball marks but there were chunks of green missing on some holes. challenging course take extra balls.
Save your money$$$$
Do not waste your money. This course doesn't even have ball washers. Worst play for the money. This course should just abort as a course. They sold the golf course to developers, and ever since its gone down the drain.
Bad customer service
The course itself was in average condition. Pace of play was fantastic because there was hardley anyone there. I made my tee time for 11am but arrived there around 9:30am because some previous plans had fallen through. I hit a small bucket on the range. I was one of 3 people on the range. Then I was putting for a few minutes and another 2 gentlemen asked if I would like to pair up so we went to check in. It was 10am. The starter refused to send me out with them because he wanted to pair me up with a threesome at 11am, an hour later. I asked why and he said they don't allow single riders in carts. I knew this was not true because there were 2 groups visible on the course with single riders. He then told me it was because I recieved a discounted rate on GolfNow. It was not until I told him to cancel my tee time and that I was going elsewhere that he agreed to send me out with the other two guys. He then proceeded to toss me the cart key and the pen to sign for my purchase. This employee thought he owned the place and was extremely rude. I would recommend the course itself, but if customer service is of any importance to you, I would go elsewhere.
ball athon.
Bring lots of ball's. Challenging had fun climbing all over the mountains. It pushes your level.
Enjoyable round, majestic scenery
Course played well, a bit dry. Challenging as always, and a welcome break from the mad rush of of life.
October golf
First timer. Played it on a Thursday afternoon. There weren't that many ppl out there ahead of me, so my pace was set by my own liking. Evening golf on a sunny day equals very super fast greens. Dry spots (on fairways & greens) were expected with CA's drought and the seeing as though it's October (aeration season). Very enjoyable course if you are accurate and can drive the ball. Extremely picturesque with beautiful mountain ranges on just about every hole. Don't hesitate to book a tee time here. It'll be a good challenge to your game.
Needs water
I believe this course was once Nice but the fairways are dry and patchy and the greens will not hold a shot. If the pin is in the front you can not get within 40 feet of the hole ... It needs lots of water to repair itself ..
There is no drinking water on the course so bring some ...
Great value on a challenging course
The course is very challenging, even more so because the rough is not being maintained. It's a great value.
Sky playing well
We used to play the Shadow course every Saturday for almost 3 years. We always felt it was the better layout of the two and was very disappointed that they chose to keep the Sky and close the Shadow. Having said that said, there was never anything wrong with the Sky, it just wasn't as interesting or challenging a layout as the Shadow. This was our first round at LC in over a year. The Sky was in good condition, considering how dry it has been, this year. The greens were in especially good shape and all of them rolled true. We will definitely be back as soon as the Santa Ana's go away. LC is still worth the drive from the South Bay.
DYEabolical! Tough Track!
Demanding tee shots, Greens were ok. Not a lot of traffic on the course. Fun course, just not for my game.
Great layout, very difficult
This could be an absolutely perfect course if it got some rain. It wasn't in horrible shape but it could be a lot better. Most of the fairways were kind of patchy and the greens were rock hard. Other than that it was a good very difficult course.
Manage your expectations
This isn't the pristine course that it was 10-15 years ago, but it is better than it had been recently. The course is in OK shape, the greens (the most important) are very good, the tee boxes are decent, fairways OK and the rest is a little rough around the edges. However this course is not that crowded right now and you can get very good bargains so the value is there. I played on a Saturday afternoon as a single. Played through 3 groups and finished in about 2 hours - all for $40. Can't beat that,
TOUGH BUT BEAUTIFUL AND FUN
I was really surprised how beautiful the scenery was. The course had some great challenging holes. Ball placement critical to a good score. Staff was awesome as was the food at the turn. Great value for the experience!
