Angeles National Golf Club

Since it was opened, I have been playing and loving this course. However, Too slow business.
Why not prefer to play in Angeles !! PRICE is higher compared to the course conditions of Moorpark, Black Gold, Sand Canyon nearby,,, The course layout is simple and softness of fairway is less qualified. Last 10 years SAME.
Only good thing is the best maintenance on green.

No stars! Booked this tee time a week before. Only after booking and checking in (pre-paying), I received message of shot gun tournament at 9:30 with our tee time at 9:44.

Arrive at the course and its packed with a 120 people tournament from Lionsgate company. Usually if there is a tournament that large, the course should close to the public. They already took my prepay and said we are the first tee after the tournament on hole 1.

Now its, 9:55 and the tournament is now starting. The A group teed off first and as we are ready to tee off, 3 girls from Lionsgate company comes up and says they need to go behind the group A group. These girls were not golfers and had two carts with one bag of clubs. They were rude and start teeing off from the blue tees and can't even get off the tee. They laugh and giggle and hit about 5 balls each into the bushes in front and left. One of the girl was in business slacks with blouse and sweater vest on. My guess, they were just told by their company to come out and enjoy the course behind the last group...My point being, if they wanted to do this, close the course to the public and have the entire course to yourself and do that!

Now we tee off almost 30 mins behind our tee time waiting behind this threesome non-golfers. They each tee up again on the fairway after searching for their balls in the bushes for about 15 mins. They're rationale is that the course is bought out by their company, Lionsgate, so they are free to roam around and act this way.

Our group took 50 mins to play 2 holes! The public tee times behind us are all backed up and frustrated. Then the group in front of us are gone for 3 holes. We are relieved.

THEN they reappear and take FORVER again, missing swings and laughing and taking 5 balls hits each from the same spot!!! They are also parking the golf cart at the tee box, walking all the way to the green then walking back for the cart. We explain to them they can take their carts with them, they just smile and say we are being jerks and drive away laughing....

We try calling the course to get a Marshall, but the number for the course only goes the reservation call center. No pro shop extension, nothing.

We ran into a worker lady driving by in a cart and we flag her down and ask for some help. She just shrugs and says she doesn't know and can't speak English.

We now get to the 10th hole after 3 hour and 10 mins. The group in front of us are gone and nowhere in sight. We tee off and move forward. Then we hear the laughing. They just pulled up behind us on the tee box and begin to tee off when just got to our ball for our second shot. After they tee off, they come right past us to our ball trying to hit thinking it's their ball......We told them no its not their ball then they just drive forward and move on to the other holes.

Pretty much this group is just jumping around going to any tee box open or open fairway and just playing.

My review is about management and how the course should've closed the course if they have a large tournament and not try to squeeze more money that day and ruin people's day. If they simply let me know there is tournament before booking or close to public, my group could've enjoyed our day off better. Thanks Angeles National for ruining that for us.

I just tried calling the course to leave my feedback for them and again only get a call center and can't connect me to anyone at the course. Only way to get to their pro shop is through the call center and even the reps say they can't ever reach the pro shop. What kind of business are they running here??!! Hire a call center to buffer all the complaints???

GolfNow, please vet and survey this course and make some feedback to them. My group and I will never play here again and let all our golfing buddies know about this experience so they don't have to give them any of their hard earned money going forward.

Good luck to the course and hope you guys learn to take care of your actual golfers and not just looking to fatten your greedy pockets.

Fun challenging greens, well kept course. Only cons are no on course concessions and the guy in the pro shop was not friendly at all, kind of a jerk.

Expected a great round of golf but was surprised with fertilizer on every tee box on the day we played.

I love this golf course. The tee boxes were flat, the fairway grass was tight, the greens roll true. The weather was great, and we felt like we were the only foursome on the golf course. I wish it was more price friendly like $60 but I can't have everything. The only issue was the food service guy handed me salt and vinegar chips without asking me what my preference was.

PRO's:
1. QUALITY: Best maintained conditions for a public course in all of LA. Greens, fairways are exceptional compared to all muni's and a most public courses.
2. TEE TIMES: Almost always can get a tee time, anytime. Very rarely is it packed. Online only though and it can be problematic if you want to change something or cancel.
3. THE GUY that runs the cart barn is awesome. Always goes above and beyond with service.
4. FREEBIES: Ice and few free tees as well as bottled water waiting in cart.
5. RANGE; Practice facility is excellent. Can pay for balls right there instead of inside with starter. $14 for a medium. Left side of range kinda slanted and only a few stalls of river allowed, but in general better than most.
NEG's:
1. COST. Considering the lack of service team, starter, Marshall, quality of amenities its always $95 -200 depending. You are paying for overall conditions and availability. But its pricey compared to Rustic, Olivas etc...
2. SERVICE is awful. They are severely understaffed every time I'm there. The ones that work there are not on the same page or very friendly. (minus the dude in charge of the carts) They all seem miserable and management is never around.
3. UNORGANIZED- They don't seem to know what's going on with tee times, or pace of play on the course when its busy. It can take 5 min to check in on golf now and everything goes off without a hitch. or 20 min if you are a walk in. and then there are problems just trying to get to the box.
4. FOOD is pretty substandard. Microwaved hot dog with cold bun, and warm white onions and relish. Limited variety in basic bars and drinks. Takes forever. No health standards behind that glass wall and definitely no cart girl or dude. So BYOF&B
5. BUNKERS: One is good the next one has no sand in it. club will shallow out or bounce off of hard bottoms more times than not.
6. DESIGN: is pretty wonky in my opinion. I know not everyone can be Rustic Canyon, but too much target golf seemingly unnecessarily and I'm always in between clubs on a lot of holes. I think it was Nicklaus's son who designed it and its super MEH IMHO. You don't finish a round here and say to yourself that was great, I loved this place.
7. TEE BOXES are inconsistent. slanted, furry off in some way on most of them.
8. PRACTICE FACILITY: Although I give them credit for having a good one the chipping areas is almost never open. Like seriously closed every time I go. IDKW

OVERALL
Could be 5 star, wants to be Rustic and Moorpark CC but does not put any attention to detail and at the end of the day the course layout isn't that interesting or FUN to play. You go because you want to play and not stress about getting a tee time and or playing with too many clowns. You pay for the conditions of the course which is the best around. Better than Industry, DeBell, Griffith Park, Balboa, Oak Quarry, Hanson Dam. But can't touch Rustic, Olivas, Soulle park, Moorpark, or most of the Ventura/ Simi courses. I play twice a week at all of the places listed at various times. First review. I play Angeles every other week.
FINAL SAY:
3.5 stars. Expect to lose a lot of balls if you aren't an 11 handicap or better.

It’s a solid track and a lot of fun, but insanely overpriced for the experience. They need a reset.

You better be on your A game when you play this course. A lot of carries over hazards, plenty of sand traps and a lot of desert. Having said that, the course is in great shape and the layout is challenging but has to be admired. The first time you play the course you might want to play from the white tees. The blue tees are a challenge. I'm not brave enough to black from the black tees.

I don't believe I've ever played a round here under 5 1/2 hours. I'm opting not to type out a rant here, but the gist of it is you pay $165-180 for a round, they still charge you for a bucket of balls, and even at an 8:30am tee time our round was 6 hours. I've played this place a few times thinking I caught a bad day, but this previous round is likely my last (which is too bad, it's a fun layout). At those greens fees they don't hire a single marshal and the few employees there, at best, shrug their shoulders about it.

It’s sad what this course has become. Just a straight money grab. They have far too many golfers out, no marshals, and have no care for any pace of play. They’ll happily take your money, but don’t expect to be able to play in less than 5 1/2 to 6 hours. Regardless of the time and day. And if you ask the staff for help, you’ll get a “not my problem” response
