Absolutely HORRIBLE
This has to be the nastiest course I've ever played. Literally, the only thing they do is cut the grass. The greens were disgusting and so was every other part of this course. I wouldn't play there again for free. The ownership should be ashamed of what they've allowed this course to become.
Sad shape
Bad service Jocelyn not helpful at all acted like we knew everything about place
Course horrable shape
Never play again
baneberry
First tine iv'e played here in about 4 years, played on a stay and play package. The staff was very friendly and helpful. fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. The greens need a lot of work. They have recently come under new ownership, and when they get the greens back in shape this should be a fun layout.
Baneberry Has Lost its Appeal
I am local to the area and have played this course many many times. Unfortunately, the courses seen a steady decline over the last few years. With improvements in some areas, the course is still seen an overall decline. The most problematic areas of the course are the greens. They used to be in really good shape, but now there are so many bad spots in the greens, it makes scoring beyond difficult. The course has a lot of geese that frequent many of the holes. They do their business all over the course, especially on the grains, which seem to be constantly riddled with goose droppings. I am by no means a biology expert or turf management expert, but it is pretty simple for me to figure out that all of the goose droppings are killing the greens! Dead spots everywhere, and where there is not a dead spot, there is a fresh droppings. The last time I played there I will literally threw my golf towel away as I left the course because I refused to take it home and wash it because it had so much goose poo on it!
And for the record, I played a pretty good round, considering. I shot right around my handicap, so I am not a disgruntled golfer. I just know that the course has historically been in much much better condition, and despite numerous complaints, the conditions continue to dwindle. I would not recommend playing here. Patriot Hills, Dandridge, Millstone, or even Smoky Mtn. are in better condition and all within 15 min. Good Luck
Most underrated course in East Tennessee
It's been 10 years since I played baneberry. I forgot why we always loved that course. Unbelievably fun and challenging layout. White tees or blue tees are that way! If it were not over an hour away, I'd play it all the time. It's part of a resort/subdivision which each fairway is lined with (what is now) older homes and condos. Surprisingly the homes are not 10 yards from the fairway like most subdivision courses are. Not that an offline shot can't hit a house, but a 15 yard fade or draw should pose little chance of breaking a window. Fairways were well maintained. Bunkers were raked and maintained. There were several water holes which didn't really come into play unless your game was really suffering.
The mountains in the background give the course an unbelievable scenic accent. On a few of the holes you noticed the lake/river in the background that Was pretty. Ducks were prevalent on the course. 6 flew in over us as we approached the number 4 green and landed in the huge pond guarding number nine green.
drawbacks:
They are having problems with about 60 percent of the greens. Not the whole green on any given hole, but large spots. They better get on top of it or 2 months from now the reviews will not be so pleasant. It seemed as though only 2 were working the whole course and clubhouse. The guy behind the counter was very nice. Snack bar person left due to an emergency before we finished 9. The guy (not sure of his title) behind counter was able to round us up a couple of hot dogs, and we were off to the back nine. Great guy, I wonder if he had to wash all those carts by himself?
The course has age on it now and I hope they don't neglect it.
The short: If I paid regular price i would give it a 6.5/10
Since I used golf now hot deals. 9/10
You should play it!
Golfingers Ghosttown
Could not tell the poor quality of course from the website. The only things that seemed updated & cared for were the golf carts & the new wooden ramp. Golf course itself was extremely dry & hard , including the greens. Must be in drought conditions. At times it was like playing in a parking lot. It was supposed to be a resort but looked like a ghosttown.
Lack a lot of necessities
Ball washers were empty. Fairways were nice but the greens were very bare and patchy also the rough on sides of fairways was thicker than normal. Overall play was decent besides greens and rough I would give 3 out 5 stars simply for the fact staff was genuinely nice
Perfect Day for Golf!
We had a 7:45 Tee Time and had the course almost to ourselves on a beautiful Sunday morning with temperatures in the low 60's. The greens had struggled some during the summer with bare spots around but the speed was really good and really not too much of a bother. The fairways were great and the roughs were tough. The back tees make some of the holes play long making the course fairly tough. I will definitely be back to play Baneberry again!
"Distressed!"
One of the hardest reviews I have ever written. This course has obviously been nice at some point but like the guy said in the Pro Shop it's very "distressed".
We had a hard time finding the course because it wasn't marked and the building is pretty run down. The Pro Shop was mediocre at best. We didn't go into the bar.
The carts were electric and equipped with a GPS. They were recycled from earlier in the day and hadn't been cleaned out or off.
The fairways were covered with grass clippings and looked like they had waited to long to cut them and left clumps everywhere. We found several golf balls that had been lost along the edges of the fairways and under the clippings in the fairways.
The worst part was the "distressed" greens that had been recently aerated - in August! There were only three greens total that were not covered with HUGE black dead spots. Putting was impossible. We literally almost left after the fifth hole.
In good shape, this could be a pretty course as there are some nicely landscaped areas. There are some challenging layouts and interesting holes. It just needs some rest and TLC.
There are a number of positive reviews on this course and I'm one who tends to discount the occasional negative review as being a disgruntled individual. If you're considering playing this course I recommend that you take a closer look before you book on-line. There are three holes within lob wedge distance of the parking lot. Judge for yourself and maybe save yourself some disappointment.
No More Baneberry
The course was in very bad shape. The grass on the fairway need cut and if your ball roll 5ft off the fairway you may just have lost your ball. The greens was terrible. There was only about 50-70 percent of grass on some greens. The staff was friendly and their carts had a green information gps on them, which was very helpful. The course has the potential of being a nice course. In the mean time " No More Baneberry".
Course needs help
Have played this course often over the past few years. Yesterday we took friends and I was embarrassed how bad the greens were and the high grass everywhere else. I hope they can get their act together because the layout and beautiful scenery made this course one of our go to courses. Maybe next year we will revisit.
Bad greens
Course was in fair condition was the fourth week in a row we played and the greens were in very bad shape on the last week.
Really nice layout. But
This course use to be better maintained but since it changed owner Warrior Golf owns now it has some what gone down hill. But still playable ,different tees (4)
make it manageable for all. I still like playing here but need to turn condition around.
Won't go back
This course is in bad shape. Some of it due to too much water but in a lot of places the grass, cart paths, and tee boxes are just neglected.
In addition the facilities are really bad. The clubhouse feels like it's about to fall in and there really were no food service options.
The staff was very nice but I am really surprised they charged the rate they did ($32 fees and cart) They should have had a "special" rate for bad conditions - both the course and facilities.
Peaceful
Great day of golf at Baneberry! From Chris at the front desk to the price to the peaceful serenity of Baneberry it was really a good experience
Conditions were fantastic and i really enjoyed it, will return soon
The kind of local club and course you'd like to be a regular part of, relaxing venue, the opposite of some these other public courses that are just zoos
Back to check out under new management
It had been a few years since I had played Baneberry back when the Kamman's owned it. We decided to see what the course was like under Warrior management. The fairways had not come in yet and the greens were aerified two weeks ago. It also looked like some remodeling of the clubhouse was taking place. I will be curious to go back again and see what its like.
a work in progress
Challenging, could be a really nice coarse with some work.
Scenic
Some greens were in poor condition. Quite possibly some disease. Nice design. Nice changes in elevation.
not a recomended course
bad greens, bad fairways ,bad practice facility. this course has great potential but is not managed well. If a course is under repair it needs to be posted this one was not.
