Interesting back 9

I cannot fault anything about this course apart from the price. It is even more expensive than The Classic, which is a truly beautiful course.
We come every few years to play for a few weeks and this is one that we always play and enjoy - the change of holes through the back nine really makes you concentrate.

Some interesting holes

Many of the holes on the mountain course are very interesting. Some run right up next to the mountains and a few have water. Second hole is typical Pete Dye par 3, watch out for the water left, it’s definitely in play. 16 is a beautiful downhill par 3. Hit the green or... I recommend you climb the stair to the back tees, even if it’s just to take a look.

Greens are very small and have a lot of slope/undulation. If you get the slope wrong you will likely 3 putt.

10 and 11 are kind of cannula holes through the townhomes, but aside from those, they are all fun.

Fantastic Views

We played Mountain course in afternoon when much quieter, we got a fantastic rate of $39 and flew round in 3 hours. The course is fun to play and challenging in places off the black tees. I think next time I play I will have much better idea of how to get round the course, especially on the back 9. The two halves are very different, the front 9 being very open but on the back 9 as you head through the mountains the views are quite spectacular and some of the holes are very challenging. I would certainly recommend and will return if I get the opportunity.

A Desert Gem

It was a treat to play this course. The conditions were not ideal which was unfortunate but the views of the mountains made up for it. Greens did not roll true and there were parts of the fairways that seemed a bit under maintained but the clubhouse and the other amenities were incredible. The driving range was the most breathtaking range I have ever had the pleasure to hit off of with the huge mountain in your face. This left a good impression on my first desert golf experience. Anybody coming through the area that loves golf should pay a visit to this impressive venue.

My new favorite low desert golf course

Golf course was spectacular. One you will remember forever and ever. They just punched the whole course, greens, tees and Fairways a week before. So the conditions was bad but we knew it going in and it was no big deal. Course maintenance has to happen and we appreciated the opportunity to play at a highly discounted price.

La Quinta Mountain

Fantastic round on one of the classic area courses. The resort was amazing and virtually all of the staff encountered were super friendly and helpful. Actually looked forward to seeing the Marshall. He was both helpful and friendly.
The course is awesome with many holes hugging the rugged mountains at their base. It punishes mistakes and delivers a truly challenging test of your skills.

Near Perfection

The Mountain Course is one of the best courses in the Palm Springs area and is more affordable than most other nice courses. Beautiful mountain scenery. Several memorable holes. Very nice conditions. Playing in late May on a beautiful day (teed off at about 11:15 and finished at about 2:30), my wife and I had the course nearly to ourselves. No one slowing us down and no one pushing us. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Fun and in void shape. Pace of play was perfect. Only negative is the unfriendly attitude of the course rangers.

Great track

A tough desert course amidst some of the best golf in the USA. This is one of the best venues in the Coachella Valley and is at arguably the best resort in the desert. You can't go wrong here and you could easily pay twice what I paid and still get a value. Holes 14-16 go through a chasm in the surrounding mountains, hence the name "Mountain Course." Very picturesque and the tee at 16 is certainly a picture spot with La Quinta Valley in the background. Make no mistake though, these are some TOUGH finishing holes with the three hardest holes in the last 5 holes. Well worth playing.

Most challenging course so far

Great day. Course conditions excellent. True greens. Good fairway. Sandy bunkers(not fine). Rough not thick(not overseeded?).
Most interesting/challenging course so far this week.
Very friendly staff. Rangers seen 3-4 times asking how we were, and keeping pace up.
Terrific scenery and views.
Hot deal for $70 a great value for such a good course..
Many ‘mesa’ greens , but ball held.

Mountain

Rode the Blacks (6666/72.9/135) with Shane, Mike and Greg in 4H, 15M using Forelinx. The weather was sunny, clear, windy and around 90.

The tees were mostly lush and nice to play from. Only the Black tee on #7 needed work.

The fairways were lush and nice to play from.

The over seeded rough around the greens was very lush. The primary rough was mostly lush, good coverage and usually mowed down, you could easily find your ball. The native rough is an almost sure lost ball.

The sand traps were very well maintained with good quality sand. Other than large waste bunkers, most of the sand traps here are relatively small but there are a lot of them.

The greens putted medium fast and they were smooth/firm. Few ball marks due to the firmness.

The customer service was exceptional from everyone encountered. As usual for this course. Cart gal around numerous times and the Marshall was out patrolling. Nice GPS on the carts that come with complementary bottled water. All grass range included with your fee, Definitely Recommended.

Kind of ok

Have wanted to play here for some time as the reviews have always been great and the area is very scenic. Was quite underwhelmed with the layout and the off fairway grass was in rough shape. It may be the changing seasons for the grass, but visually the course looked pretty rough and unkept. Fairways and greens were good which is the most important, but overall kind of ok and that’s it.

Scenic but tough

I made the mistake of playing the white tees although silver tees were only a few hundred yards shorter. The greens are mostly elevated which adds yardage to the game. For some reason the ball was not flying like normal today when the wind was calm. The layout is really scenic. the last 5 holes have great views. I would play again, but I would move forward. No need to punish yourself playing the wrong tees.

Beautiful Course

First time playing the La Quinta mountain course. Pete Dye’s design makes it challenging if you are off the fairway but manageable if you stray from it unlike his stadium course at PGA West. Sneaky elevated greens so make sure you club up for your approach shots. The front nines beauty pales in comparison to the back nine. I paid full pull starting at 08:00 $200. I won’t play again for that price because the course condition isn’t $200 worthy, mind you mid March is prime time. Holes 15 and 16 made me temporarily forget that I paid $200. Such amazing holes. Be sure to hit from the championship tees on the par 3 16th. Iconic hole, 161 yards way downhill, take one club off! Will go back in shoulder season. Would be great deal for $120 or less.

Not able to get 18 in 4.5 hours meh..

Meh...huge booking/ events slowed everything up with waiting time on every tee box on every hole on front. This changed as that huge grouping left after nine, but then a new golfing 2some was slow and no one was marshaling them. Started at a tee time that should have allowed to finish before dark but ended up in the dark on hole 15 and was likely going to be 5 hour round. Missed the last 3 holes which looked really cool:(
