Rode the Blacks (6666/72.9/135) with Gary for 9 holes and played 9 as a single in 3H, 45M. The weather was sunny, clear, breezy and around 110.

The Bermuda tees were a mixed bag. Most were lush and nice to play from. However, a few were in mediocre to poor condition. Only some par 3's had a decent amount of divot damage.

The Bermuda fairways were lush and nice to play from.

The Bermuda rough around the greens was very lush. The Bermuda primary rough was mostly lush, good coverage and usually mowed down, you could easily find your ball. The native rough is an almost sure lost ball.

The sand traps were very well maintained. Other than large waste bunkers, most of the sand traps here are relatively small but there are a lot of them.

The Bermuda greens putted medium fast and they are firm. Almost no ball marks due to the firmness.

Hole 5 had a large temporary lake that had one traps and much of the fairway underwater, probably from a broken water line? The customer service was exceptional from everyone encountered. Cart gal around numerous times. very friendly Marshall out patrolling. Nice GPS on the carts that come with complementary bottled water. All grass range included with your fee, Definitely Recommended.

This course starts off rather easy and lulls you to sleep and once you make it to the fourth hole, which is a par 5, hold on! You begin to play along the mountain and the scenery is second to none. Being in the fairway is a premium here. The back nine is the best part as you wind in and around the mountains. Especially the Par 5 15th and downhill par 3 16th over rocks. We played in a 2 club wind on the par 3 which made it next to impossible to hit this tiny green. What a great golf hole. Truly a great golf course!

Played the Black/White combo tees (6477/71.7/131) with Tom, Dennis and Collin in slightly over 4H. The weather was clear and calm around 95.

Pete Dye design with numerous mounds, massive waste bunkers and many raised greens. Holes 13-17 are as good a consecutive 5 hole stretch as you will find on almost any course.

The tees were a hodgepodge. Many were lush and near immaculate. However, a few were in mediocre condition. The par 3's had a decent amount of divot damage.

The fairways were mostly lush and nice to play from.

The rough around the greens that they over seed was lush and thick. The Bermuda primary rough had good coverage and was mowed down, you could easily find your ball. However, you hope the primary rough catches any offline shots, because the native rough here is an almost sure lost ball, calf to knee deep.

The traps were nicely maintained with fine sand. Other than large waste bunkers, most of the sand traps here are relatively small but there are a lot of them.

The small Bermuda greens were medium fast speed, firm and smooth with few ball marks.

The customer service was excellent from all encountered. Cart gal around numerous times. Overall, this is a challenging layout and the conditions were very good overall. Recommended.

Not sure why someone would pay 200 to play this course?? They have a course marshal, but he felt it was alright for a weekend round at 1 pm for a 5 to 6 hour round. It ended up being 5 hours but sure looked like it was going to be 6. No stress just hit some extra balls. Greens at Shawdow Mountain in much better shape. Would not pay more than 60 to play here again, my Dad said he would not come back. To bad as it could and probably was a great course in the past. Great views on the back and liked the course layout. Just played desert dunes yesterday for 50 and it was in better shape both greens and fairways.

I've played the Mountain Course at La Quinta twice now, nine years apart, and both times it was the first course I played on a weeklong trip. This course is a great way to start a golf vacation. With its terrific mountain views, Pete Dye design and friendly staff, this is a terrific golf experience. There are so many great views, but the last few holes are really special. The highlight for most is the par-3 16th, which has an elevated back tee that looks down at least 100 feet to the green. That view alone is worth playing the course, but there are many other highlights on a course that's both fun and certainly challenging, though not nearly as hard as many Dye layouts.

Enjoyed playing here. Solid variety of holes.

Threesome teed off at 1145 and wrapped up in 3.5 hours. Conditions were very good. Fairways & rough were lush. Greens a bit dried out for my taste, but rolled true.

Got a great deal on my rate so was OK with the value... Would struggle to justify a $200+ rate for this course.
