#15 on La Quinta's Mountain is laying along the base of the mountains - stay tight to the base and go for this par 5 in two. The green stays snug up against the base and will not be in full view.

Course is damaged

This is usually our favorite course. We redeemed all our GolfNow credits to get $140 rate from probably $200. They are still pumping water out of low lying areas. There is a stench. Shame on PGA West for charging regular rates for a significantly damaged course. The driving range is closed due to damage as well.

Beware when booking Mountain Course - Bait and Switch

This is the 2nd time I booked mountain and was switched to dunes when I arrived at the course. We were told the Mountain course was flooded and Clubhouse said they sent emails to 3rd party we booked thru (Supreme golf) but nobody received anything.

We had 2 foursomes celebrating a bachelor party and needless to say we were dissapointed when we arrived and were told we were playing dunes and our tee-time was delayed 90 minutes.

Granted the weather was not ideal (30 mph wind gusts), but the conditions of the course was not great. Tee boxes were small and uneven, bunkers had NO SAND in them, greens were not rolling smooth, etc. Back 9 plays more into the mountains and is much more enjoyable than the front, which has some very uninspiring holes.

Very dissapointing experience. Too many great courses in the desert to ever come back here.

Green are new, too firm, too bumpy and too slow. There minimal shading on the course. The mountain scenery is great however.

Over priced. Too difficult.

This is a very expensive course, yet they don’t have GPS screens in the carts…and as this is a Pete Dye course, there are hidden hazards throughout. Without the GPS, too many misplayed shots.
Driving range was closed due to repairs…that happens but they could have done something to compensate for that (a free sleeve of balls).
There are several beautiful holes on the back, but the front is unexceptionable.

Wait until grounds recover from flood damage.

Course is rough from water damage due to hurricane last October. Driving range shut down and several areas under repair. Call before you want to play for updates.

Don’t bother with this course

Pete dye mountain course first nine is boring, flat, nothing special. Back nine gets interesting in the rocks. Dark early against the mountains. Greens have no grip thanks to brown grass. Signature hole 16 backs up. Should have a Marshall there to keep things moving etc. group behind us jumped in front while we’re on elevated tees waiting our turn. Not worth the money.

Scenic back 9

The PGA West Dye Mountain course is decent although when we played they had recently replaced the greens and they were very firm - approach shots didn’t hold at all.
Scenic back 9.
Good track, but I would put it in the average category for the price compared to other options in Palm Springs//Palm Desert

Better than all the rest of pga west

Most of these reviews are beyond wrong. They might have suffered storm damage in the fall- but it's back to glorious & a GEM of a course!!! 16 might be the best par three in the desert 🏜- and playing literally in the mountains is an experience like nothing else!!! Viva the Mountain course & it's spectacular views- we will definitely return!!! JP

The Mountain Course has seen better days for sure!

One of my favorite courses from coast to coast, however Mother Nature had not been nice to the Valley the past week. Multiple holes had been affected by the deluge of rain. After 17 years of playing PGA West, this is probably the worst I have seen it.
That being said sadly it was also probably one of the most unfriendly visits to the Mountain Course as well. The new management/owner may not have the same customer service mentality that I have always affiliated with the entire PGA West group of courses and staff. I guess times have changed and it is starting to show…..perhaps not always in a good way. #bummer #lossofagoodthing #didn’tseemspecial
When you find a gem like PGA West and have visited it many times over the past 17 years, it brings a frown to my face knowing it no longer seems to be that special place it once was.
However, will I play the course again? Yes. Do I feel it needs to polish a few rough areas to bring the sparkle back to that what it used to be….. A DEFINITE YES. But I have hopes they will soon.

A Dye disappointment

The course suffered significant damage from flooding last September. Driving range closed and several areas still unplayable due to water. It smells in several locations. The greens, which I understand had just been completed before the flooding are anything but green, more brown and slow. I think GOLF NOW should have made me aware if these conditions before getting a time. The rate was $142 which should have been no more than half given the above. I’d recommend NOT playing this course till they get the course back into play. Also shocking that the course does NOT have a GPS system on the carts— are you kidding me?? Truly a Dye disappointment.

Scenic and fun course to play

The Mountain course was an interesting combination of beauty with some risk reward. While the back nine has some beautiful holes, this is also when the course tightens and is surrounded by homes. The greens were all new which made them quite challenging. Speed was up and they were extremely firm so holding a green was challenging. Overall it was a great test and two of us engoyed the two two singles that we were paired with.

Not what it once was

I've played this course each time we have visited LaQuinta over the past decade. The back 9 is the highlight of the course with wonderful views and challenging holes. Unfortunately, the recent redesign has made the course less appealing. The greens were rough and not really rolling true.

We have also had an issue with certain groups playing that will hit into our group even though we are keeping up with and on pace with the group ahead of us. During this round, the group behind us hit into us on 4 different occasions. They stopped once I went back and addressed them.

A Pete Dye Course I liked

As part of the PGA Family Championship, we played the Mountain course. The greens were just redone lie the Dunes but they are far more playable than the Dunes.

The back 9 closing holes are truly memorable. You work your way into the mountains and the views are amazing.

Off the tee, aggressive play is rewarded if you execute your shot.

Once the greens mature this course will be 5 star in my opinion.
