Rode the Golds (6158/69.5/125) in 4H, 20M mid day using Forelinx. Played with Terry, Peter and John under partly cloudy, breezy conditions around 65.
The tees were fairly lush/level. However, too many needed divot repair.
The fairways were fairly lush and well maintained. Few unfixed divots.
The Bermuda rough was thin and matted down. Not good to play from and terrible to chip from around greens.
The sand traps were decently maintained with a good amount of good quality sand.
The greens were firm and putted medium fast speed. The breaks here are not as severe as on most Dye layouts, but expect few if any straight putts.
This course would be difficult to walk as numerous tees are a long way from the last green. There is OB down both sides of many holes and numerous holes have water that comes prominently into play. However, most of the landing areas are generous in size, there are just specific shots where there is little margin for error. The traditional Dye runoffs around greens, mounds, water features etc. are present. Overall, more fun to play than most Dye layouts.
Now has GPS on the carts. The customer service was excellent all around. Plenty of water stations on the course and the Drink cart was out making the rounds. Good facilities, complementary range balls although the range tops out @ 220 yards. Fun layout, but not as good as it's sister Player layout IMO. Recommended.
Pete Dye Course is Fun to Play
The Pete Dye layout did not disappoint. Lots of rolling fairways and rough and lots of sand made for an interesting day. The weather was bit cool for Palm Desert in February but the fairways were firm and what we lost in the air, was made up for on the ground. We were a little disappointed in the speed and consistency of the greens but they kept us honest. Pace of play was 4hrs 20 minutes, not bad for a busy resort course. Overall, we had a great day, especially because of my two birdies and the fact I beat my buddy.
The rough areas are difficult to play off as there no grass
Great Place to play
We played this course for the first time. We were greeted by the friendly staff who welcomed us to the course. Course was in great shape, phase of play was perfect. Our foursome played in four hours.
Conditions were great, course in good shape.
Every hole Pete Dye had some trouble for you around the elevated greens with sand and grass bunkers for any mis-hits.
Lots of fun
Course had quite a bit of rain the week leading into my round, but with the exception of a couple of bunkers you would have never known. The crew did a great job getting the course ready for play. The outside service staff was very friendly and the amenities were nice. The course is a fun track and has some challenging greens. I will certainly play it again.
Mission Hill Dye Course
I have played this course many times since 2009
This is the worst shape I have ever seen it the non over seeded areas are mud.
Greens are so firm it’s awful
Save your money
Rode the Golds (6158/69.5/125) in 4H, 15M mid day uing Forelinx. Matched up with Steve and Chris, we played at a relaxed pace under partly cloudy, calm conditions in the 60's.
The tees were lush/level and well maintained for divots.
The fairways were lush and well maintained.
The Bermuda rough is the only part of the course not over seeded and is VERY mediocre at this point. Thin with areas of hardpan all the way to a few places that are dormant and fluffy is not a good place to go with lush fairways closeby.
The sand traps were nicely maintained with a decent amount of good quality sand.
The greens putted nice, firm and medium fast. They held irons well, softer than usual after the recent rains.
This course would be difficult to walk as numerous tees are a long way from the last green. GPS to the front/middle/back of the green only. The customer service was excellent as usual here. Plenty of water stations on the course. Drink cart out making the rounds. Good practice facilities with complementary range balls although the range tops out about 220 yards. Fun layout, Recommended.
Challenging from tee to green! Large mounds and grass bunkers surround most every green. Play from these areas is always challenging but moreso due to thin/no grass in the bottoms.
Greens were very nice!
A Canadian Golfer
This is our third time this year playing this course.
They never have golf carts availability until just before you tee Off. Feb 1 was very busy and a 22 minute delay .
Won’t be going back.
Tee times running behind and then the big boss puts a 4some of who knows in front of us. That puts us almost 50 minutes behind. They say it’s just busy but the Marshall, that we never saw would speed things up. Going to the first tee we looked down 18, not a soul on it.
Course not designed for anyone but a single didgit golfer. Your average 10 won’t break 100.
Pete Dye Course
The course is quite good, the tee boxes as me greens are very good and the fairways are also very good, the rough has not been watered so it is brown, pretty easy to play out of. There is a lot of fairway bunkers and pretty much all the greens have at least 1 bunker around it. We didn't get to play TT he back 9 as it was very slow, not sure where the Marshalls were.
But Luis in the pro shop was excellent to deal with, he gave us a rain check for 9 holes, and he said he we would give us his best rate to play an additional 9 to make it 18.
This is a great golf experience from pickup by shuttle in the parking lot to the unfolding of each beautiful hole. The course has some very challenging holes with elevated greens abounding and peril behind some. Great fun. Our only complaint involved our cart which slowly died between the 11th and 12 th hole. I called the number on the score card which was the main number for the Westin Resort. Was put on hold and finally spoke to someone who took down our info and said someone would be right out. Pace of place had been slow so we didn’t wait long before loading our clubs in the other cart and proceeding. No cart by the end of the 12th so I called again. Same routine. Was assured that someone would be right out. A staff member arrived half way up the 13th and seemed a bit put off that we hadn’t stayed with our cart—which he wouldn’t have been able to use anyway to get back. It probably was a shorter walk to our dead cart than to the clubhouse so I was puzzled about his rather grumpy manner. Anyway, it all worked out and we proceeded on our fun round. The score card needs to have a direct line to the clubhouse for this situation and medical emergencies!
