#16 from Tee Photo submitted by Steve8905914 on 10/20/2014
The course has greatly improved since the last time I played here. All but 2 greens were fine. Tee boxes were pretty flat and had real decent grass. If you stayed in the fairway the turf was fine . But if you weren't the grass was scarce. There was also alot of bare ground patches green adjacent on several of the greens. Not all but some. Improved for sure.
What a shame
Can’t be the first negative review for this course . I remember when when Kayo and family owned/ran this course. It was beautiful, well maintained, and managed. The last several years it appears no one cares. Surprisingly, the parking lot is pretty full. I’ll chalk that up to a convenient location and relatively cheap greens fees. But, I’ll tell you, I paid $29 on a hot deal and that was too much. I’ve never seen the course in such terrible condition in my 30 years of visits to the area. What a shame.
It’s what you make it. Needs work
You can have fun here, even if it’s not perfectly manicured. The course is on the ups but it’s not an overnight process. My family lives on the course so it’s very convenient to play. Not too challenging for beginners either but still tough for anyone. .
The courses needs a ranger to actually police the pace of play. A bev car would be nice and presumably help the overall goal of improving the facility.
Greens are decent and generally roll true, even for that Florida Bermuda! Some pockets of the course are nice while others are destroyed.
I’d recommend management do the following:
1. Ranger to police play
2. Bev cart to boost revenue
3. Properly rope off greens and tee boxes to avoid driving near them
4. Work on tee boxes and greens
5. Put bunker rakes in the bunkers not on the cart. I’ve found this promotes unraked bunkers bc usually golfers forget the rake.
The overall condition of the fairway and tee boxes and greens are poor at best- hard to understand seem like it get a lot of play why not make it great- I would imagine that if the course was plush- you would get even more play and personally I would pay more for a round that’s in good/great condition
Still Needs Work
The course is under new management and it will take a bit of time to see if they can return the course to enjoyable conditions. Some of the greens were in outstanding shape will a few others were not so good. A bit pricey for the condition of the course but understand they will need the revenue to make the required repairs to bring it back.
A Cow Pasture Minus the Cows
The description of this course on Golf Now is, "A lush, beautiful golf course..." Well, this may have once been true but, sadly, it's no longer accurate. The fairways are mostly weeds and crabgrass with the occasional smattering of some sort of grass. (I might have expected to see a cow or 2 or 3 wandering and grazing, but at least bovines are not currently part of the landscape... yet.) There are also many barren areas so be prepared to hit your shots off many bare, tight lies. The bunkers have some sand but each could use a partial truckload of new sand to make sure a sand shot does not dig into the earth itself. The greens are inconsistent, some having bare areas and some very good, though repairing ball marks seems anathema to many who play here. (Be prepared to be courteous and repair your ball mark as well as 2 or 3 others.)
There is a brick or block rest area that is accessible from both the front and back nines but, unfortunately, it was unusable as use requires a numeric door code which none of our threesome was given before starting. If you play here, be sure to ask for the code.
The layout is good and very challenging and would be a great test if course conditions were better. The staff was very friendly and the golf carts are in good condition so I have nothing but good to say about this.
For price, we had a Hot Deal so it was only $32.99 each whereas the standard green fee is about $53.00. For the Hot Deal, the price was OK but, for over $50, I would advise the reader to play elsewhere. For over $50, you will be underwhelmed.
