Avery Ranch Golf Club

About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Love this course! Needs more water stations.
This is our first time playing this course. We loved it. It is tough for sure. We are relatively new beginners but got paired up with the best folks ever! The one complaint I have is the driving range was completely full at 7:30 AM as we tried to warm up. Seems that people just camp there and don’t play. They could also use a more water stations around the course. Love having the Marshall come around and talk about the pace of play. With a foursome, we finished in four hours and 15 minutes. Will definitely play this course again.
PS. Carry womens stuff in the pro shop! We are a driving force. ⛳️
Has potential
The positives: Check-in process was friendly, informative, and quick. The starter shack staff were equally welcoming. The beverage cart came around often.
The negatives: Range. Poured my balls into the dispenser and it was malfunctioning- only bringing the ball halfway out of the hole. Had to use my golf club to scoop the ball out each time. At the turn, I went inside for a drink and snack, but the bar was not staffed. For a hot day, it was disappointing. Bunkers were bad - some rocky and messy.
Beat The Heat 🔥🔥🔥
Got on late Friday afternoon was running 21 minutes behind tee time. 4:21-4:44. Got to play 15 holes.
Nice but dry
We waited for a deal on this course which having now played it glad we did. It’s a tough track so take lots of balls. The disappointment was not having water on the course in the height of summer. Two water holes 4 & 14 with no water left on the 14 and the drinks buggy eventually arriving on the 15th. Signage was not good so navigating the next holes can sometimes be tricky. Overall nice but in terms of its high price not worth it and I’ve recently played better courses in the area for far less.
So pricey now
Magnolia has really discouraged the growth of golf locally with these fees. $159 on a weekday!? These are local resort course fees, it’s insane. I hope to see lower fees in the future like we used to see at Avery.
Fairways dry/rough
Overall, a very fair course and set up well for amateur golfers, even high handicap golfers. The greens were very nice, and well maintained, a bit too slow (just needed a roll or haircut). The fairways were not in the best shape, with frequent dead spots, dirt no grass. The driving range is all mat play with automated ball tee up's if you like that sort of thing. No locker room to change.
You’re LUCKY if you finish in 5 hours
This is one of the slowest courses in Austin….and they just don’t care.
I’ve played here numerous times and talked to many golfers that have said they refuse to play the course due to slow play. If you play on the weekends you will surely be waiting at every hole for at least one party to tee off. Pace of play is not a concern for management and it’s a shame. It’s frustrating to play a 5 to 6 hour round of golf when you can go to Crystal Falls, ShadowGlen, Starr Ranch, or numerous other courses for a much quicker round… At a much lower price
I advise you to stay away unless you are looking to blow money for a slow day.
This course is horrible
this course has horrible staff and customer service, the workers here are beyond disgusting and disrespectful to me and my friends, cart boys that work here laughing at my kids and telling them to “go cry to mommy” absolutely disgusting this golf course treats their customers with hate and disrespect. unbelievable
Good course, some improvements needed
I haven’t played Avery in awhile and it seemed like they got new golf carts but they don’t have windshields on them. For the price of a round, you would expect the golf carts to have windshields at Nate minimum and a navigation screen with distances on it. Otherwise, the course was well kept, and then new mechanic tees on the range were great!!
Beautiful course
The layout of the course was challenging. Thankfully I got paired with someone who played the course before or I would have had a much harder time playing. Even though it was difficult, there was lots of wild life to lighten the spirits and scenic views from tee boxes that made it enjoyable. Can’t wait to play there again
5.5 hours for 17 holes
Played as a solo and showed up to the pro shop 15 minutes early. Checked in and was told I was playing with a 3some and needed to join one of their carts which is whatever.
I was asked to walk to the starter so I did so. Once I got to the starter with my bag I was still 7 minutes early. The starter then told me that he let my group go off early and they were on the green. I was upset with this but what are you going to do.
The starter drove me to the group and I joined in their cart which was very awkward. We then waited on the second tee box as there were 3 groups on the same hole!!! No idea why he was pushing groups off early just to wait.
We waited on EVERY single shot the entire round because this course is trying to suck out as much money as possible and stacking tee times way too close to each other.
Never playing here again.
Best course in Austin so far it’s a challenging course but everything is so green tee box are amazing greens beautiful course in general
Nice course in great shape
I enjoyed the tough course, especially for a late Dec round with my son who traveled in for the holidays. The weather was a decent 60+ and rather windy which made the course play slower than average pace. The course was in great shape but maybe a bit higher green fees for a twilight time. I definitely shied away from paying green fees for the peak hours, there are better courses for the price. Overall, great course and I'd return if prices were to come down a bit.
