Too early to pay that much
Course is being redone. Many fairways and greens have either dirt patches or sand all over them. You would think it would be very cheap to play here....the cheapest it get is $35 after 2pm. If you want to play in the morning it's $50-60. Once the course is complete I can understand that but until then you need to drop your prices to $20.
Diamond in the rough
Course undergoing renovations with new management. Course has the potential to be one of the finest in Southern California. New management has very ambitious plans in development. A golf resort is in the works on the property. If done right it will be a masterpiece. If not a big disappointment. Facilities such as the driving range and dining are excellent. The current layout of the course is fantastic. Lots of work in progress with machinery in many parts of the course. Very interested to see the final result.
Sand Canyon
The course is getting better all the time. The owner is definitely putting money into the course and it is starting to show. The work on the course is not complete yet though so a few holes are kinda rough but the greens are in pretty good shape. I imagine after the work on the course is complete the price will probably rise. I hope I am wrong on this.
Excellent greens
The greens were in great shape. We were a threesome stuck behind a group of five Five and a half hours. No drinking water on the course. Good value because of golf now. Would go back for the greens
It is back!
So they have created a new 18 hole course out of the 36 holes they used to have. They have worked hard and have created a kind of Vegas style course. less fairway, more sanded areas. I really liked what they have done to some holes and that they have also left other holes alone and they are just like they were. They were still doing work on the course and hanging a roof over the driving range stalls when we played there 3 weeks ago on 7/8/17. I'd say the course itself was about 90% and the peripherals were about 70%, so Im guessing by now, its pretty close to completed. I will definitely play here again, just like i used to when they had 2 courses. I am very happy that the old Robinson Ranch is back under the new name of Sand Canyon Country Club.. I'll be back for sure.. Just make sure you tee off early or late, cause its bloody hot out there in the summer!
extremely HOT day but fun new track
I want to be fair here so I say the conditions were great considering this course is recovering from a recent Fire that was obvious and the extreme heat (115 degrees the day we played here). So given all that the course was in great shape considering, surely this is an amazing course when theres some rain happening.I loved the layout and would love to shoot it again given the chance,I live near San Francisco so for me it would have to be planned part of another trip here.Bunkers had perfect sand,I loved the forced carries ,and elevation changes.greens were quick and true and given some cooler days with a little more water fairways would be great as well. This course is challenging and when the other course recovers I would love to shoot it to!
Don't believe the bad reviews
Course is a lot better then the reviews say. I'm not an employee and they didn't pay me to say this. Course is going to be great when they are done with it
Wow! What Have They Done to Robinson Ranch?
I've played this golf course on a fairly regular basis for the past 8-10 years. Since the fire destroyed the much of the back 9 last year, the owner decided it was time to "redesign" the golf course without the assistance of a golf architect. Sadly, it shows. Rather than write a long narrative, I'll just say this: play this golf course if you find some or most of the following acceptable:
- Inconsistent greens, packed bunkers with weeds growing in them, huge boulders placed in very unusual spots...in your shot line.
- Artificial grass throughout golf course used for walking path to tee boxes as well as entry/exit areas for carts.
- Construction activity everywhere. Workers in fairways who go about their business while you tee off (safety hazard for them... potential liability for you). Huge trucks and machinery throughout golf course.
- Public Safety hazards throughout the golf course (see pics). Some of which are very large and deep holes as well as sprinkler ditches that are not roped off. These are often found near walkways and cart paths.
- If you like pottery, you will find clay flower pots partially filled with sand on each tee box. It is unclear if these were intended for broken tees or cigarettes since you will find both present most of the time. Many of the pots can be found cracked and/or in pieces.
- Then there is the bizarre: on some holes there are signs that read "Tee shot in the Circle, win a free pitcher of beer for your group. Ring the bell to notify the world". Yes, there are bells on various holes that you can actually ring. Not so nice during your backswing. (see pic).
Please play this golf course at your own risk. In it's current condition, I would not pay more than $40 to play.

Sand Canyon CC
The course has gotten way better in just a few months. The greens are noticeably faster and better in one months time. I'll be back soon.
Course needs water
So this course was burned in a brush fire in the past year. While the grounds crew is still trying to repair the course, there are simply too many areas of dirt that should be grass. Excluding the deplorable dirt issue, the course layout is fun.
Definitely won't return
There was only one person at the proshop and he was on the phone talking to someone, instead of sending me on my way since I told him the teetime, name and it was prepaid when he loiked at me, he chose to continue his conversation on the phone, he was explaining course condition then the direction which the other person had trouble with as he continued to repeat direction. When I went outside and tried to give receipt to the man to get a cart key, he said to wait as he was putting ice on two carts to the group in front of us(attractive Asian ladies), we stood there with golf bags waiting till he finished his conversation about what a beautiful day it is to play golf. We realized when we got to the 1st green that our carts didn't have any ice.
The fareways and rough didn't have much grass but the green was in great shape.
It was waste of money and definitely don't recommend to other golfers, not maintaining good course condition is one thing but they definitely need to educate their employees or get new ones.
Sand Canyon Valley 18
New course looks promising, but still bone dry. Sad to see that the course was not rebuilt using reclaimed water. Very dry and hard surfaces. A lot of new sod is in place but it seems as though it is not taking to the surface (needs more water!) Greens & fringe are great, but bunkers are not too good, they need more new sand. Trucks and workers are all over the course which is understandable, the rate I paid yesterday 05.23.17 is well worth it ($14+3.49 fee Hot deal Golf Now)....wouldn't pay over $40 until it gets better.
Working to improve
The course is decently laid out and has its challenges. Lot of repairs and sod laying on day I played. Needs water to soften up fairways and get sod and existing grass to take hold and flourish.
Sand canyon
This course will be amazing when they finish it. I would say give it another 6-9 months. You should only play this course on this conditions if it's free or less than $20. Staff is great. It just needs time to be on playable conditions.
Hit it straight!
Greens are perfect. Bunkers are even better (except where newbies didn't rake). Lots of green grass to play from. Local rule: if you're on dirt, move it to grass. No penalty. True, it's not ready for a U.S. Amateur, but not many courses are. But when they finish the renovations, it will be the pre drought, pre fire course we remember and loved. Leave your attitude at home and enjoy the experience.
