Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 06/2019.
The highlight of this Karl Litton course is the three-story Southern plantation-style mansion that serves as the clubhouse. Devlin Von Hagge originally designed it.
The course has been voted as a Top 100 women-friendly course in the U.S.
The course is known for its excellent condition of the fast greens and contoured fairways. Palm trees add a tropical feel to this target-oriented course.

grounds keepers in strike
pros:
a+ staff, everyone friendly, looks very well run in the front of the house. they had breakfast setup on a saturday morning which may or may not have been for me, but if it was, it was great. snagged a powered donut! would have feasted some more but i snagged that donut like it wasnt mine. lol!
cons:
the grounds keeping staff is on strike... and the proshop are not changing their prices to reflect this. maybe i paid more for friendlier people and free breakfast which, in retrospect, may have been worth it, but i want to play on good conditions because im a snob. greens were very patchy and not consistent. fairways were not well kept, and the tee boxes were fine from what i remember. layout sucks with a ton of water but it is what it is and the ratings and slope reflect that. wind was up so i had 2 water balls thats crushed my round and knocked me back to an 83.
bottomline:
give it a few months before you go, maybe they will improve...
Never mind all the water
They tell you lots of water the conditions were very poor crab grass untreated fairways horlble staff bad attitude don't play if you are a golfer!
REALLY NEEDS SOME TLC
My foursome has been playing here since 2001and we always deemed this to be the best bargain in the Fort Lauderdale area. It still would be if the greens were in better shape. I am hoping that the conditions we had are temporary and will improve. This course is heavily played, but they had better address the issues with the greens.
Difficult course
It is a very challenging course with lots of water, but I would recommend it to an experience golfer
Nice track for the price
Got a good deal on golfnow. Very nice layout...conditions of fairways average...greens rolled well. Overall I would recommend if price is right!
Former Glory No Longer
It has been a few decades since I have played this course.... all the water is right where I left it along with a reasonable quantity of "missing" golf balls.... but the course has lost its former glory especially as viewed by the condition of the greens which could use an awful lot of TLC.
Tight and challenging course
Course conditions were average and the layout is challenging. Good staff and good amenities.
They did their best....
Can-Am screwed up my time at another course so I walked up at Carolina as a single, without a time. Both the starter and the pro shop did their best to get me out. While I was waiting, they gave me a small bucket. And then I got out - the course has plenty of water - left, right, and center. the longest "wood" I carry, besides the driver, is a 3 hybrid which I hit 180 in the air. Yet I only faced one tough forced carry so straight is more important than long. Fair conditions for Winter. Got around in 4 hours but weather was poor, so course not crowded. I plan to go back. Good value.
The course has too much water
The course conditions is far to good. The greens are not bad for South Florida courses. Water hazard is in play in almost every hole, and forces a long carry or layup depending on the wind condition. I do mot recommend this course for beginner or average golfer unless you like losing a lot of balls. It could, however, be a fun course for advanced players as it forces you to hit different shots and control your distance.
Typical muni with the smallest greens in South Florida
I've been on a variety of websites, and for some reason the ratings of this course are always really high. After finally playing here, I'm not exactly sure why that is. Maybe the restaurant is skewing things in the 5 star direction? Maybe I'm spoiled by the other courses I've played in South Florida? But I can honestly say this course is average at best.
I'll start out with the pros:
- The service really was great from start to finish. Staff was extremely nice and courteous. No complaints there.
- The pace of play, especially for a Sunday was amazing. I barely saw anyone else on the course and finished playing in less than 3 hours. That is always a major plus.
- Also, no matter how you book your tee time, you'll almost never pay more than $40 to play this course. BUT when you live in South Florida, have a premier card, why would you play here when you can play Plantation Preserve, Jacaranda, Melreese or Miami Beach for virtually the same price?
Cons:
- The course itself is average at best. There really isn't a lot variety to the holes. Great courses it's really easy for me to go back through the round and remember every hole and every shot - not the case here. The only thing that really sticks out is how small the greens were here. Some of the smallest I've ever played for sure.
- I played after a brief rain shower, and the course just doesn't drain that well. The fairways and greens are OK - what you'd expect from your local muni.
- The houses/apartments are a little too close to the course in my opinion. Definitely a disruption - on several holes I felt like I could hear every detail of several conversations happening in adjacent homes. I don't want to sound too much like Shooter McGavin (Happy Gilmore) but how am I supposed to chip with all that background nonsense going on?
Anyway, if you're looking for a cheap round of golf, with a great pace of play, and you live within close proximity to this course, you should definitely play it. However, if you're looking for a tour quality, championship course (which I usually am), this isn't the one for you.
Baby Lama I've got a 4some coming down feb 4-8 same area you down there? We all suck but we can do some small stakes best ball.
thanks for the review.. me and a couple of friends are going down in a few weeks here to play in that fort Lauderdale area.
this is our second annual trip and we like to play new courses each year. We always try to look for deals whichever way we can. Like you we like to play the best courses available, but we like to once again, play them at the best price available too.
we're looking for a good course for our "warm up" round.. would you say for $40, that this would meet our needs? last year we played Heron Bay for our first round, and for the price, we thought it did the job
also if you have any other hidden gems in the area that you know about, let me know.
The courses we would like to play this year include:
-TPC Eagle Trace
-Hillcrest (one more time before it closes)
-Jacaranda (East or West)
-Inverrary (east or West)
-Osprey Point (tough to get decent tee times if you don't have a frequent player pass or are a florda resident)
we have also played plantation before
Thanks for your help
