MIramar Golf
The course is in good condition. One thing to know for civilians from out of town is that you need to check in at the gate no earlier that 1 hour prior to tee time and no later that 45 min prior to tee time. We showed up early and had to wait to get our pass to enter.
Great course
Terrain is flat but course is well laid out ane well maintained.
Unfortunately Inconvenient
I used to play quite often at this course before 2015. Played for the first time again and the conditions were fine as always.
However, there are a few reasons to why I would advise most players to stay away from this course as I have for the most part since 2014.
1. Check-in has gotten stricter from mid 2014 and onwards, which makes it difficult for individuals to get in.
2. Pace of play is poor. Sure it's wide open sometimes, but if you have people in front, no one cares. Not even the golf shop.
3. Always has to have carts in before a certain time. This is always an hour or so before sundown, which is extremely annoying.
4. Increased prices from 2014. Unfortunately, they think they're not getting enough business so they increased prices. Sorry, but you lost a few customers such as myself because of this.
Hopefully the course decides to take action and fix their man-management and customer service. Otherwise, a nice kept course in the middle of San Diego may just waste away.
Great Course
Just beautiful. Course was overall in excellent condition. Greens were well maintained. Sand traps have actual sand. Virtually every hole is a scenic view. Added attractions were the fighter aircraft, helicopters, and a look at the Osprey. Long par fours that feel like you are playing par fives until you play the 634 yard par five. Can't wait to play it again.
fun track
course is a good track to walk or ride. while it is a bit rough the greens were true and the sand well taken care of. Ryan the pro is very accommodating and is a gem for this course.
Great Military Course
I love playing this course during the week because of all the aircraft taking off and landing. I love the sound of the jets as the pass over. The course is in great shape for this time of year. Certain holes have marked off sections of ground under repair which helps. The greens are well kept. Very nice driving range facility. Definitely recommend stopping off at their bar for a drink as you sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views from the clubhouse. Great Course, always enjoy coming back.
Nice & Flat Course
I really enjoy playing here. I was fortunate to pair up with the clubhouse pro one time and was a great round with someone who is extremely respectful and enjoyable to be around. I love playing here every time and always meet great people when I get paired up. I can't wait to play here again!!!!
Enjoy the course
Greens well kept. Flat with challenging tees. I enjoy watching the aircraft. And the staff on and off greens were great.
It's unfortunate they have a Denny's for a restaurant. Our appetizers were not worth the happy hour prices. Quesadilla with not enough cheese to see. Chicken nuggets were not edible. My sandwich was over greasy. With so many great local San Diego establishments it's too bad our military and locals shouldn't have a better menu after golf.
golfing here for years
Good golf here, I've been golfing here for years and since I've been coming here I've met the staff on golf course and I was surprised that they let husband and wife work together like they have for years, I met a couple kevin amos and Diane walker and they have been married and working here since I first started coming out here in 1990
Save your time and money
We arrived 45 minutes early as we had seen some prior reviews about the check in process. Finding the entrance was a challenge on it's own as there was only one entrance to the grounds (east gate), which was not clear. After getting clearance, which took about 15 minutes, we proceeded to the course. The course is pretty boring, flat without much in the way of hazards. The condition of the fairways was poor - the grass was not your typical fairway grass - looked more like crab grass with lots of dry patches. Lots of balls were lost right in the fairway. The greens were in decent shape. Probably the best part of this course was getting the free air show. We left after 9 holes as we didn't want to waste our precious time in San Diego playing on a lousy course.
Fun course
Enjoyed being close to all the military aircraft. The course in good condition
Huge Hassle
If you want to play this course, make sure the driver of your car is also playing. They will not let you in otherwise. Huge hassle finding this place and dealing with the people at the gate. The guys at the Pro shop were completely unhelpful and useless in resolving the situation as well. We ended up leaving and playing Balboa park (with no prior tee time). I'd highly recommend that course instead.
features and suggestions
Basically the course is good. Would like to see time between tee times 10 minutes and more marshals to keep everyone moving. Tends to get really slow. It is good to have forward tees as the course tends to be longgggg. Rough is thick and deep.
Access Hard
As much as we wanted to play when we arrived at base the wait to get vehicle pass was well over an hour. Others have said they didn't have this issue. It is probably random due to security needs so call ahead and find out first.
great condition
I would recommend it to other. I am happy to see that we as civilians can play at Miramar Memorial, i will play there again soon.
Miltary golf on a miltary base
First you have to do the Homeland security/secondary inspection at the front gate. You must have a DL license, Insurance, Registration, and a tee time on the tee sheet and you get your hall pass.
The course is basically flat and pretty easy for a low handicapper. The greens are nice and they seem to have plenty of water on that base to keep everything green. You can hit wild drives all day because the only thing separating most of the fairways are a few sparse trees. As long as you can shape the ball both ways you can recover from anywhere without a penalty making the course pretty easy.
There is loud jet and helicopter noise to the South and loud Miramar Road traffic noise to the North.
I would play it a gain.
Flat and Wide Open!
If you are looking for a course that'll make you look good, this is it. It's flat with wide green fairways and super reasonable.
A golf course with wide green fairways in drought plagued San Diego County and super reasonable, almost too good to believe!
Play it!!!!!
This course is kept in good condition, good leisurely course.
Course was a little hairy. Fairway grass a little long, but the greens were in great shape. Would help if the players would fix their ball marks. Good course to walk, good for novices there is no rough to speak of that you can't hit out of. Overall, good course for a relaxing round of golf. There is very little trouble to worry about.
Nice place to golf
What a great experience and what a great course. From start to finish and in between my friend and I had a wonderful time. Fun layout with exceptional greens running at about 9.5. Friendly staff. No chance of being disappointed, unless your game is suffering .
